I know you weren't taking issue with my post. I just don't think it's that ridiculous to say this team might go 1-3 down the stretch or worse. I sure hope not. And yeah, I know it's cheap to call you on a prediction. But for the record, I thought that prediction was kinda crazy before the game. If you check I mentioned it before the game started. I know you don't need my validation, but I enjoy your writing even when I don't agree with it. And I agree with you and others on Tannehill I think it's wrong to jump off that ship because of one game. He is a huge part of why the team is still in the hunt, and he's playing at a high enough level that it would be almost impossible to upgrade the position.
I disagree just a little. Ryan had a hand in it, no doubt. I felt he was a little off yesterday. But definitely pales in comparison to the defense. Once we got behind in that game and it was evident our D could not stop them, we became one dimensional vs a Dominant D that did just that.. dominate Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I think we need to go 3-1 to get in. Lets just say we beat Arizona and the Jets, although both could go either way. That means we have to beat either the Pats, who likely will be playing for the #1 seed, or win at Buffalo in December. A tough task.
Yes we are. By less than FG. Which means Vegas thinks Arizona is the slightly better team. Which means nothing, just pointing it out.
I agree with 3-1, however your scenario is tougher, because Buffalo might possibly be tied with us if we lose to them, its going to be a tough 4 weeks for sure! At least we have something worth watching and meaningful! Considering its Gase first year, with a young injury depleted roster, I am excited where we're heading.
Good point. And one that hasn't been brought up yet. But how damn fun is it to have truly meaningful games this late in the season and feel like things are heading in a positive direction?
It's great man! Another draft to get some defensive studs (hopefully)....Reshad Jones back, Pouncey possibly back, Xavien Howard a year into it, etc....we have the arrow pointing in the right direction for the first time in awhile.
You don't want to do this, Travis. Really, you don't. Because if you pull ALL the games...it doesn't work in your favor.
Even though I know Arizona is going to be a tight game I was just referring to a post that said we weren't going to be favored in anything but the Jets game and we are Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Jay Fiedler had good games, too. As did Chad Henne. Ryan Tannehill has a losing record as a starting QB, here. Pointing to individual performances sort of highlights the fact that, as a whole, he hasn't been successful. He is owed $18 million dollars next year. It is prohibitive to adding players in other locations. Maybe that is fine. But then again, it may cripple this franchise even further.
Sorry bro, I didn't see that post. I wasn't bashing your post, Just wanted to show the kind of degenerate I am...
I can only speak for myself here, but me agreeing that we could be in for a December dive, isn't about disregarding what this team has accomplished because of one game. It's more about looking at the schedule, who we play, where we play them, and tbh, the history of this franchise in the month of December. Idk, if this version of the Miami Dolphins takes a big crap on the month December, but if it does, it wouldn't shock me. And it shouldn't shock anyone else.
you picked out 5 games. ok. my problem is tannehill has played in 17 december games, and if i recall, the majority of them he wasn't that great and we lost. and even further, several times we have been in position to get into the playoffs, and in those games, tannehill played poorly. now obviously there are a lot more players on the team than tannehill, but i would say even the low bar we set for him, he has trouble getting to in december. My bigger point is i am not confident that tannehill can get the job done for us when it counts. on the bright side, i think this team is headed in the right direction, but as of right now, we just can not compete with a well coached talented team imo.
As far as a December "dive"? I dont think how we finish will fit that description. Now if we win the next 2 and drop the final 2 I may change my stance on this. Either way yesterday was more of a "bad game" than an indictment on the team overall IMO. i think we finish up 2-2 in the final 4, @BUFF and @Jets B2B is not easy for any team. Especially one from South FL. I just want to keep seeing encouraging signs of long term success...I have no SB aspirations for this group in 2016.
I think 2-2 is probably the most likely scenario. There is a blueprint for abusing our defense but not every team remaining on the schedule has the talent to fully exploit it. Personally I don't think anything that's happened in past seasons is relevant. Especially with a new coaching staff in place now. If you go back to the bad cold weather record during the Shula/Marino days it could mostly be chalked up to a finesse offense that wasn't as effective in cold and sloppy weather. Now we have Ajayi and if nothing else we're probably a much more physical team than any of those 90s teams were. Those things help you win in December and we have them. Of course I'd like to see how they come out next week after getting thoroughly beaten in Baltimore. But they weren't beaten physically. Baltimore had a great gameplan and great execution. That's how this one was a little different than losses to those guys in the past.
Ok, so what exactly are you saying? We shouldn't draft a QB? and we shouldn't sign a FA? just wait until a better option falls out of the sky? while overpaying a QB that will tank in any meaningful games? When you find a problem, get rid of it and go on from there, it's real simple, the money we'd be paying him could be put to much better use, actually building the team. RT will have multiple chances to redeem himself, if he does great, if not it would be stupid to continue to pay him, it's all on him now.
I'm in wait and see mode. Yesterday was definitely a crappy outing, but it's one game in December, and every team gets caught every now and again (for example, the Bucs beat the Seahawks 12-5 a week ago).
I may be wrong but I would assume what he says play well in December he means the whole month. Playing well in the first two games getting yourself into position for the playoffs and crappping the last two doesn't qualify as playing well in December in my book. But that's just me
Buffalo has a lot tougher schedule than we do...they're not going undefeated in the last 4. That's the main reason why nobody brought that scenario up.
You can ask 10,000 people, "If your favorite team won 6 of the last 7 games, would you consider them good or bad?" Can you guess what percentage would say bad? Maybe 1%? 3%? So you're probably in the minority that sees a bad team here and that's perfectly fine. But it's not cool to belittle others who don't share your opinion. That vast majority here do believe that we will finish better than 0-4...and it's their right to do so without being called names.
I think we will squeak out a 9-7 record. Which with how we started the season and how many holes we have at linebacker and in the secondary is quite a success.
But that's the thing - I'm not saying the team is bad. I'm saying that DESPITE the team winning 6 of the last 7, look out because December could be bad and here is why. And only speaking for myself but this isn't me knee jerking about 1 loss. This is me looking ahead, looking at the current team and previous years performance and trying to figure out what December may bring. I hope the team goes 3-1 or 4-0 and I can look stupid for worrying about a December dive.
Do you know Tannehill has not raised his game in a single playoff type game ever? Do you know the is in his 5th year and just completely reverted back to his old form in the most critical game of the season? I hope you are right that Tannehill is the savior, but if you are confident in those 6 wins, well we shall see.
How would you have handled that? I would have kept on with the game plan as it was obvious the game was over. Work on what needs to be worked on and give up on trying to score 50 points one play.
I agree. I was at the game. By the second half, I would have scaled back and taken what ever they were willing to give. Probably pulled a bunch of starters also. Ravens were sitting back and rushing 3 or 4 guys. With that good a defense and the score the way it was and the way the defense and offense were playing?...take your lumps and get out of dodge.
I said we should beat the Jets because they suck. but we've given up and lost to sucky Jets teams before, in recent memory. The other teams we're playing match up against us very well and the way our defense has been playing, I don't see us beating them even if we don't have a mental meltdown.
Umm, what the hell are you talking about? I was the one being belittled. And the streak was nice and fun, but the holes were there even when we were winning. We almost let a Niners team that got crushed by the BEARS come back on us. The BEARS.
