One of the biggest questions was whether Tanny could win through December into the playoffs with a spot on the line. He started it off well in AZ (like NE in 2013) but now he doesn't get to answer the question. Moore comes in and many were worried. We win both and he's not a train wreck. If Moore goes on a deep playoff run while playing well there will be more questions for sure.
I'd say it all started with the Baltimore game as far as evaluating him during the stretch run. It's a shame we didn't get to see him finish it out. Would've helped me calm the questions I had, this I do know.
I've always had faith in Matty Ice Jr. being our back up. He's a veteran very poised and has good accuracy under 20 yards. He moves around int he pocket arguably better than Tannehill.
Moore is playing his *** off and doing what he can. we're lucky to have the back up we do. That being said, yes you pay tannehill, and yes they are going to. Maybe some of you dont see a 20m difference but the dolphins sure as **** do.
Totally agree, but right now I'm of the opinion we would have had a 2-0 record last two games even if Tannehill was the starter. Jets were just too weak and Buffalo was dominated by crappy defense and Ajayi. I'm less willing to entertain such equivalence for playoff games however, so we'll see what happens there. But for me my primary QB-related concern has been whether our QB is good enough to get us into the playoffs, and as things stand right now I'd say Tannehill is good enough IF we actually make it (of course.. if we do have to go 11-5 to get in that game counts too).
Considering Tanny is 0-4 in Buffalo - it's hard to say "unequivocally" that the win would be automatic. But he definitely had momentum on his side, Jay Train, and an actual QB whisperer coaching him up no doubt.
The only questions that would arise from Moore going on a deep playoff run would be on this forum. Gase and the Dolphins FO would not have any questions.
You really believe that? If they beat @bal and then @ raiders I don't see how you can say that Moore isn't the qb. Esp considering he already won @NYJ and @ buf. The difference between the two in salary is a superstar player.
So if Moore were to take this team to the SB, you dont think we would have an open battle going into 2017?
Yeah there's no such thing as a starter that's "set in stone" in the NFL. Someone else plays much better and any halfway decent coaching staff will play the better player. Right now I don't think Moore is a better player than Tannehill but damn if he hypothetically plays lights out in the playoffs and we win the SB, he better be the starter! And that's exactly the decision I'd expect Gase to make. Of course this is totally hypothetical.
I guess Im hoping he is 95-100% for the playoffs and none of this matters. But if Moore wins @NYJ, @Buf, @Pitt/Bal @NE/Oak then hell yes he's going to be the leader in the clubhouse for 2017. That's A LOT of "if's" though..
I'd have to agree...if (humongous "IF") they win the Super Bowl with MM starting all the way through...how could you NOT have him down as the starter going forward? I'd love to see it happen, but have zero expectation of it actually happening. Pretty damn hard to win a Super Bowl w/o a great/above average defense...and we don't have one.
No, I don't think there would be a competition. For there to be a competition, or a question, they'd have to believe that Moore was doing things that Tannehill couldn't do. I don't think that would happen.
Certifiably crazy. It has nothing to do with "things Tannehill couldn't do". It has everything to do with how the team and in particular the offense responds to the most important position. If Moore takes them to the Super Bowl the decision to start Tannehill becomes murkier. It continues to amaze me how much defiance you spew in this thread. Why are you even bringing it up anyways? To bicker that's why. You can't just enjoy the win/momentum - you've got to taint it. Focus on the games ahead and what this team needs to do to keep the 2016 dream alive. You can argue you're little besmirching butt off about who should start 2017 when the season ends.
I'm not sure how this is even a topic- teams go with the hot hand. We saw it with Manning, Favre, Romo....hell, we saw it with Marino, Henne and Pennington. If the next guy up does well, it's very hard to go back to the previous quarterback. So in the hypothetical that we win the Super Bowl with Moore at the helm, there's nothing to really talk about here- Moore would be the 2017 starter. Am I expecting that? Heck no. But I think our defense has been playing solid and there's always a chance in the playoffs with a great run team. So who knows...the AFC Championship game is only 4 wins away. Anything can happen.
Ive said it atleast a dozen times.. if anyone wants to take any bets please let me know. Tannehill is starting next year unless there is an injury related setback. Period. We can win the superbowl with Moore and Tannehill is still starting next year. Bank it. Easiest bet of my life.
I'd take one very specific bet: barring injury Moore will be the starter next year (for game 1) IF we win the SB with Moore. Of course this is a win-win-win-win bet because I frankly won't care one **** if I lose this bet if we actually win the SB haha!
I would bet you just for the heck of it, but how would you spot me a Super Bowl win? I'm as optimistic as anyone here but I just don't see it happening without the defense playing incredible and Ajayi becoming a household name.
IF Matt Moore wins the AFC, it doesn't mean Ryan will be cut....but it does mean you will have a training camp battle. HOPEFULLY we get the chance to find out who's right.
So...if we're admitting that a Super Bowl win would only happen with stellar defense and crazy running by Ajayi, why in the heck would anyone think that would result in sticking with Moore? Now, if Moore threw 5 tds a game, and we won a Super Bowl off his arm, that would be different. But we all know that isn't gonna happen.
My problem with this, is that Matt Moore took over a team that was already poised to make the playoffs. Tannehill was the captain of that ship. There is literally no reason to believe that these last two wins wouldn't also have been wins under Tannehill.
Winning these past two games was not going to be easy, but IF he goes in to 3 more hostile environments vs better teams and comes out victorious? Then yes, he would have a strong case to start in 2017. It REALLY would be an indictment on Ryan if Moore goes in to Baltimore and wins...remember how bad Ryan looked that game? I think if THAT happens then you may start hearing some whispers. Again, lotta If's.
If he goes in to bal and wins it will be because of everybody except Moore and if tannehill was playing they would have won by 14 more points. These tannehill lovers have rose colored glasses
If we're being honest, I think that's the only true path to the AFC Championship. Moore may have another amazing day or two, but nobody is going to do what the Jets did and stack the box without a safety over the middle watching Stills and company. That was the formula for playing Tannehill in 2015 with our dink/dunk offense, so I'm not sure how the Jets didn't get the memo on that one. However, I don't think the game-plan changes with Tannehill or Moore in the game...we're still a run-first team looking for mismatches out of the play action. Moore just sees them a little better, while Tannehill throws them more accurately. Moore is better in the pocket, Tannehill is better on the scramble. They're two completely different QB's but the game-plan remains basically the same. As to why they'd stick with Moore though if we went all the way, I think it comes down to the little things like chemistry and leadership style. Teams don't like to mess with that when you have something that's working- it's not a knock on anybody.
But ....... what do you make of MM8's age? I mean he's 32. It would be one thing if he were in his mid-upper 20's. I think that causes some complexities no matter how hot he is in this hypothetical scenario.
If KC wins tonight I fully expect tannehill to take all the first team snaps in practice this week but Moore will start in a meaningless game next week against the Patriots. We have to get Tannehill and his leg ready for the wildcard game
Ive seen rg3 play with a worse injury in the playoffs and tannehill is tougher than that guy by a longshot. if we are in, tannehill is going to start
With the cast off, I wonder how close to 100% he will be in 2 weeks. What I can tell you is I dont want a 75% Ryan hobbling out there in 2 weeks.
Qb grades out 2nd worst player on the team on a play by play basis and there's Lombardi talk with him Yeesh
Absolutely. I don't want tannehill out there if they arent 100% confident in his health. Flip a coin with moore at the helm.
Your posting ability loses credibility when you generalize like that. Not a single person has brought that up w/o saying it comes with a lot of "ifs". Grow up. Get better.
Your own grades - make sure to clarify that. Of course your analysis also yielded the below. Clearly you know Buffalo's offense better than ours.
