We should get great production in year one. We need another thumper Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Stop gap measure, I feel he will be another free agent LB disappointment in a long line of FA LB dissapointments for us. If he still had it Pittsburgh would not have let him go like that. Sent from my F3111 using Tapatalk
Dude, does the sun ever shine in your world? Damn. Good things going on all around you. Sometimes the glass is half full. Enjoy it for a while.
I would have been much happier if we signed zack brown who is younger, bigger, faster and played alot better than timmons last season. I believe timmons will give us a decent amount of production for one season but it is still a stop gap measure. I have learned to be skeptical of dolphins free agent lb signings. Reminds me of the Joey Porter signing when Pittsburgh let us have their leftovers. Sent from my F3111 using Tapatalk
Good signing alot people think this is madden and all of these good young players are avaiable to throw alot of money at. Some people wanted Zack Brown but I think he would have just been another Dannell Ellerbee.
I get it. But these signings are good football players at good numbers. I can totally understand being skeptical... but things seem to be different now. New way of doing business in Dolphin land Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Or it could just be that as he isn't "your guy" that he must not be good enough. I doubt the FO signed him believing he would be more than a stop gap.
The truth is probably somewhere in the middle. FO alluded to having total flexibility in the draft, something a lot of these mid-priced free agents are going to allow us to do. For once, we might actually go BPA.
I just talked to a guy with the sports radio station, 670TheScore in Chicago and asked him about the guard, Larsen. NOT GOOD
I like the signing. Stopgap? Yeah, probably. I don't see the problem with that though. It's not like there's other options out there that are going to be affordable. This move to me, solidifies a LB position in the immediate future. We all know that is a need. He's a tackling machine. He's not a long term solution, but we had so many holes on that defense and lack of depth that there's just only so much you can afford to do. So what we've done here, is pencil in another starter for the short term, at not a huge cost thus allowing us still to have the flexibility to draft someone at 22 to play LB if there is one, or draft another position of need. It's about building this roster right now with football players. We haven't had very many of those at LB in quite some time. This is a good deal, and it's exactly what they needed to do IMO. Gives you a plug and play guy, doesn't hamstring your depth chart or your cap, you'll get production, and you'll get to still draft someone at that position to learn along with Timmons until his deal is up. It's a pattern here in free agency this year, and it's one that usually results in winning formula's. It's not overpaying and locking into long term deals, it's finding guys who can play, to fill your holes at a reasonable cost allowing you to focus your draft at other area's of need to load up on talent. Plug the hole with a contract that doesn't tie you down long term, and still gives you the flexibility to draft a guy to develop at that position. Re-stocking the shelves with good football players, at good values, not overspending on long term problems like we've done in the past. I'm a fan of this new mentality.
I didn't watch many Bear games at all last year, even though I live in the city. I'd either watch RedZone or actually go find the Dolphin game somewhere. We'll see what happens but losing out on Leary and then signing some F'ng bum is so disheartening. If it's another year when the O-line sucks....F this team!
Linebacker was a glaring weakness. It's great that they're building up some depth there. Hopefully Jelani Jenkins can stay healthy.
I hear ya. Pretty big overreaction on my part. Larsen couldn't have been that bad. He played 9 games and the Bears got a running back into the Pro Bowl. Their big signing last offseason, Josh Sitton, missed 9 games, so 'best laid plans', right? Larsen was supposed to be a backup so maybe he can still be either a back-up or his experience last year can make him at least an average NFL guard, which is all we need if we can get one stud guard.
Timmons has been bad each of the last 2 years. Was good just about every year before that. We'll see which one we get, but he isnt getting younger. Small money though so as a stop gap shouldnt be bad. LB needs to be our first rounder though 100%.
Dolphins add LB Lawrence Timmons 3:07 p.m. ET, Fri., March 10 Adam Schefter reports that the Dolphins have added linebacker Lawrence Timmons on a two-year deal worth $12million, with $11 million of that guaranteed. Timmons has spent his entire career in Pittsburgh until now, but his play has dipped over the past two seasons. Of the 217 solo tackles he has attempted since the beginning of the 2015 season, he has missed 40 of them. Timmons has contributed as a blitzer, though, racking up 10 sacks, 11 hits and 24 hurries on 292 pass-rushing snaps over the past two seasons. — Gordon McGuinness, @PFF_Gordon
Good signing. Hopefully he can be a leader in the Locker room and help bring along Jenkins and anybody else they draft.
Will miss him, quality signing for you guys, he's got two good years left. I was hoping we'd resign him to 2yrs/10M, but happy to spend that money on secondary/DL instead... LB wasn't why we lost to the Patriots in embarrassing fashion. That said, don't expect "attitude" from him, he's pretty soft-spoken. Hopefully he won't keep puking @ the Hard Rock lol
Disappointment like Seau, Dansby, Porter? all who lead the team and were a key piece to the defense in their time here? i hope he is a disappointment like them too. hopefully he gets used to the heat though, can't be puking 7 games a year.
The only one of those three you mentioned that was not a dissapointment was seau. Dansby and porter underperformed for us compared to the money we payed them and compared to how they played before we signed them. Sent from my F3111 using Tapatalk
Dansby was signed to the richest lb contract in history at the time. A five year deal which we terminated after three, of those three years he only had one good year which warranted his pay that is why he was let go. Joey porter was nothing more than a washed up situational pass rusher for us and a mediocre one at that. He was past his prime when we picked him up from Pittsburgh much like timmons is past his prime now. Sent from my F3111 using Tapatalk
I'm good with this, Timmons is a nice veteran addition. We need to draft a young linebacker and put him with Timmons and Kiko. Perfect situation for a young LB to walk into. Timmons is a smart seasoned vet, Alonso is in his prime. Hopefully we keep Hull and Jenkins too. I like the depth as a collective unit. Nice offseason so far. I like every signing we've made. Nothing too flashy, just savvy young vets.
We had nothing else at LB besides Alonzo, so this is a step up. They are buying time for a drafted LB to have time to develop.
and so is Mike Tyson, but that doesn't stop him nor Timmons from knocking you silly. The physicality your boy will bring to Miami will be worth the signing alone.
I think Porter lead the league in sacks one year, which certainly helped garner that playoff berth. So to gloss over that conveniently is likely done so to support the narrative, rather than letting the evidence write the narrative on its own. I looked. Porters 2007 he had 5.5 sacks, 2008 saw 17.5 and 2009 saw 9.0 sacks. If one said that one season was better than the other is legitimate. Otherwise it's fantasy to label of being washed up or mediocre. He was productive enough during his time to the tune of 32 sacks in that span. Two of these seasons pretty much any team would take in a second. Sorry, but you are off by a country mile.
Yeah, your of base here on Porter IMO, but I see that's already been addressed. And I hate Joey Porter. Grade A piece of crap person IMO. But he played well here. Maybe didn't live up to the pay day on free agency... But that's exactly why we're not out there overpaying fit guys this year. Most big free agent signings never out play the deal. Prices allways get driven up Sent from my Samsung Galaxy S5 using Tapatalk... ignore the typos!
I really didn't remember porter had one good season. I just remembered his three years here overall were dissapointing and we got him at the tail end of his career. Same with dansby we got one good season out of them each and cut them after three seasons. If what we want out of timmons is one good season then that is the definition of a stop gap player which was my original gripe with this signing. I dont think its a terrible signing, but I think we should have gone after a guy like zach brown who is a younger player with more upside for the future and most importantly in my mind he can cover tight ends. That is the number one concern for me right now is getting linebackers who can cover its what has been killing us for years here TE and recievers running free over the seems and across the middle because our linebackers cant cover worth a damn.
