I haven't had a lot of time to research it, but evidently Wade opted into his contract with Chicago and the very next day, Chi traded Jimmy Butler and a number of other prospects. Analysts are thinking that they are intentionally clearing all their cap space to make a move next year, hopefully with the #1 overall draft pick and then bringing in a superstar or two. If that's true, then Wade will waste an entire year (at $22M salary) without any chance of seeing the playoffs. Some have said that Wade could buyout his contract and be a free agent again...which would still pay him around $10M plus whatever he earns elsewhere. The Bulls seem to be considering that path as well as they dump contracts, and they thought is that Wade will end up in Cleveland or Miami on a little more than a league min. salary since he's already getting paid. With that said, is a Heat reunion on the horizon? Will he go to Cleveland instead? What do you Miami natives think since you probably hear a lot more about it than me?
Im a Heat fan but GREED has really tainted the end of his career. What a way to flame out, on a bum Chicago team. I applaud Riley for his decision regarding Wade.
No Heat reunion unless he agrees to come off the bench. Sorry but its true, dion's shooting and overall play fits the team better. Wade's isos and lazy defense is toxic. Especially when he stands back for a no call to whine to the refs instead of running back to defense. Those little things matter. We are a different team now from the Wade era and the big3 era.
I don't agree....he volunteered to take less than top money for a good 6-8 years in a row there, going all the way back to 2006 when he practically won the NBA title by himself. He has been pretty selfless throughout his career. Then again, I think he's probably a year past retirement age with his knees, shoulders, etc....those hard fouls and amazing moves to the rim have finally caught up with him. He's probably one of my favorite players ever (Mourning is up there as well) but he's just not the guy he used to be. Wade should definitely be coming off the bench if he plays next season.
I love Wade. I just don't like the way it ended here and I (almost) always side with team over player. I thought the contract offered was more than fair.
Me too, except in Wade's case. He's the first b-ball player I ever stayed loyal to over the Heat. I tried to root for him and Chicago last year but it was just a circus with Rondo there- and next season will be even worse without Rondo/Butler.
I would love it if Wade got bought out of Chicago and came back to the Heat on the MLE for a real playoff run. Perfect. I don't mind that he went off to Chicago. He got paid and he got to scratch one off the bucket list. YOLO. He's a Heat Lifer. Nothing changes that. People get too hurt about these things.
I dont mind but hes not a starter. Take that ginobili role and be okay with it. His crying to refs and not running back to defense is toxic. We are a different team and the offense should run the same, not through him.
What do you mean he got paid? He would've got paid here too. A multi, multi, MULTI millionaire chose a few extra million over finishing his career here with his fans. The fact that he was actually insulted too is unbelievable. Seriously, when is enough, enough with people? I would welcome him back too but greed is an ugly thing.
Few extra million was negated by the fact he got taxed hard in Chicago.. he just left because his feelings were hurt.. and because Gabrielle influenced him to play mean.
I hope you're not reading it from me. I couldn't care less. Doesn't bother me one bit like it does others that he didn't finish his career here as a "Heat lifer". I just think it was a stupid move on his part and a good hard stance from Riley.
Riley said that he regrets it...but who knows? The politics in sports is a lot different from sports.
