My favorite food and drink combo would be to have Blue Moon to drink with BBQ chicken wings and blu cheese sauce.
A big, soft pan pizza with ice cold root beer. A regular favorite from my childhood thats not really available where I live these days.
Pizza and a coke (although I prefer thin crust) and buffalo-style chicken wings with a beer are hard to beat. I would also count Cincinnati-style chili and a crawfish or crab boil among my favorite foods but I don't have a specific drink I combo with those. But I do think that a root beer float can make almost any day a little bit better.
If I'm ever up that way I'll check it out. Everywhere here in Central VA has the paper-thin NY style, which I don't care for. I want inch thick, soft pan crust. It seems to be almost extinct. Even all of the old local places that had it in my hometown in the 80s have closed up.
I live halfway between Richmond and Charlottesville, about a 30 minute drive. I was there for a few hours earlier today. The West End, aka Short Pump, is a great area. The southwest area of town, Chesterfield/Midlothian is also great, if you're looking at areas to move. I'd live there myself if my wife wasn't attached to her home county. I commuted there for work from 2006-11.
I literally know nothing about the state (except that it's for lovers!) but my friend is moving down there in January because the company he works for is expanding and they want him to move there and head operations. I'm trying to get in the company so it's possible that eventually I may have to pack up and head down there. Which is kind of exciting.
Definitely let me know if you do. It would be cool to get together. Im here forever. We're building a new house, so its pretty permanent.
Come out to the Chicago land area. We have deep dish Pizza. Also thin crust pizza as well. Both are awesome. Numerous Pizza places out by where I live.
Not actually a fan of Chicago style deep dish (though I absolutely love Chicago. Its my favorite big city). The pizza has too much sauce, and the crust is hard and grainy. Kind of reminds me of a weird take on a cheesecake crust. I like my crust to be a very soft, thick, fluffy white bread that the sauce and cheese can lay on top of.
