Maybe you'd better glance at US labor laws then- it's one of the few places where mental illness actually matters in the US.

    Don't say that he's a wack-a-doodle. Just he isn't cutting it.

Detroit Lions receiver Titus Young was arrested four times within twelve days for offenses ranging from DUI to theft in a convenience store. His father reportedly offered that he struggled with an undisclosed mental illness and had not been taking his medication.

    Cut.

While playing with the Denver Broncos, Marshall received a suspension in 2008 for violating the NFL’s personal conduct policy, and later from the Broncos for insubordination. He said he was mental.

    Suspended.

US labor laws didn't help them.

Neither of those prove your point, which was:

Young broke laws which are reasons.

Marshall was only suspended which means he wasn't cut.

    Well, there you have it.

Don't know who to feel about it because I still don't know what happened. What does suck is that he's a good player at a position of need.

At this point I hope Gase made the right call.

Guess that proves they can suspend him. Is that against the labor laws too?

You can suspend him against the Jets and Saints. But he needs to be back for the Titans.

I would imagine not showing up for work and not telling anyone why is a breach of contract.

Um call someone. He was smart enough to be able to get an airline ticket. Guess he had some kind of thought process. Snowflakes can't take responsibility for their actions. It's always some excuse. But never fault of their own.

Yup, and the suspension gives them cause to cancel out any remaining guarantees. So it looks like we can suspend him for a month and then cut him without taking a cap hit. OR....we could suspend him for a week, let him think about what he did, then welcome him back and set him loose. It all depends on what he did and how forgiving Gase is feeling at the moment.

To me, this reads like Timmons' excuse WAS NOT GOOD ENOUGH.

We'll have to wait and see, we may never know.

That's good news....bring our boy home! While he's not on Timmons level, at least he's consistent and plays hard.....and shows up for practice. We have to be thinking warm bodies at this point and Jenkins almost has to be the BPA without a trade.

That would be convenient and may be the right length of time, depending on details. We're talking about the same coach who left Ajayi home for Seattle so it doesn't have to necessarily be convenient. But at least we have a 2 game window where we may not need him as badly. I'm just guessing, but it very well could be just a game or 2 with some pay and guarantees lost and then he comes back and plays hard. Message sent to Timmons and team as well. I admit I am hoping for the best.

This seems like the most significant post of the day. First, his guaranteed money for next year is history. Second he's not coming back. Third, I have to believe based upon past actions that the Fins will be looking to void the entire contract. You ask how? Well a contract is based upon the rendering of a product in exchange for compensation. The compensation was paid, but it might be said that Timmons "Defrauded the Dolphins" on the product as he never substantially performed. The Dolphins need that CAP space back as they have precious little as it is. Look for them to settle with Timmons for about $1.5 Million and Timmons to give back $3 Million. The Fins have a history of this type of settlement.

Still seeing the emotional jabs at folks. Pity, but with the revelation the Dolphins have suspended Timmons...indefinitely, although we the public and Dolphins fans still don't know WHAT happened, it's pretty safe to say there's no justifying or mitigating circumstances behind Timmons' abrupt departure from LA, leaving the Dolphins on the day before our season opener.

I think it's pretty safe to say that Timmons, like Foster last year came to Miami...enticing us with that one "missing piece" our team needed, penned a lucrative contract and then bailed. This is 2 years in a row something potentially catastrophic has happened in the off-season. Ajayi stepped up last year and demonstrated the loss of Foster wasn't a problem. Will Mike Hull or Chase Allen be the one that steps up this year?

This is why, when so many posters here pitch for signing this free agent, or that free agent...sign this cut player or that cut player that I'm not instantly enthused. More times than not, these players are past their prime and there are reasons their respective teams have let them go. I certainly don't want us to follow in the footsteps of the Oakland Raiders...the dumpster of the NFL.

The good news is that our staff does not tolerate foolishness. I think this is a great signal to all potential future FA--If you think you are coming to South Beach to chill and hang out, stay where you are. Gase is building a championship culture.

IF they are able to resurrect Stephone Anthony back to where he was his rookie year (a big IF, but its possible)...and if Raekwon McMillan can return to form next year from his injury, we could have a very stout LB corp with young experienced depth.

One could argue that the NFL is one place where US Labor laws do not apply. Not to the players who are under contract and not actually employed by the team.

    Just the opposite really.

When I have to hold people accountable I take all the feelings out of it.
    Only things that matter are
Policy + Action=Consequences. This is the policy, these were your actions that violated this policy. The Consequences are thus.

    Example:
The attendance policy requires you to be here at your station and ready to work at your scheduled time. If not able to do that notify your supervisor within 7 min of scheduled time. If you don't notify supervisor it's an unexcused absence. You will get a verbal, than a written warning for 2nd and termination on 3rd such occurrence w/in 6 months.

You don't call or show up, here is your verbal. But boss, I had a flat, got a speeding ticket, my dog died, whatever. Sorry to hear that, here's your written cuz it was the second time.

You have been arguing that this whole thread, and I agree with that, that's biz. Didn't agree with you calling Timmons a sorry person and the many other derogatory personal comments being made towards him, especially when we still don't know who what when why.

It is possible for us to have empathy for the human being while still holding him accountable for his actions.

Sorry I was in a car crash on the way to the office and was in the hospital. I couldn't call because I wasn't conscious. But thanks for the written warning. LoL It's not always cut and dried.

I like to keep it that cut and dried and it's not because I'm a heartless bustard. It's the only way to be completely fair and transparent. If that's the standard for everybody and I apply that standard across the board equally with no exceptions I can never be swayed by the fact that Joe is a really good worker and a critical part of the team so, I'm just going to let it slide. But that slacker Bill, hes about useless so I'll drop the hammer on him. Or any of the other hundreds of reasons to choose who the rules do and don't apply to. That's why there are three strikes in my example.

I forget how the quote goes exactly, but it's something like "If it happens once it's an accident, twice coincidence, three times it's enemy action."

Just the opposite of how the NFL approaches things.
