When I watch the pre-game, then the actual game in real time? I want respect for our nation, the National Anthem. All the time.

It's the least these overprivileged millionaire cry-babys can do. How about donate your money to the violence in inner cities? Doesn't fit your agenda? Gotcha...

How about fight for more kids to actually, like, ya know, KNOW WHO THEIR FATHERS ARE?

But no, let's play the RACE CARD for the 100,000,000,000,000,000th TIME? Yeah, that'll work...NOT!!!

im a bigot because i can admit my own privileges? must one be homeless to help homeless people? must one be in puerto rico or puerto rican to help people who are being ignored right now? No. Me admitting a privilege of being able to inherit a great business led by white, jewish, people should be dissented against because you dont agree with the cause being advanced? Just like anyone, like Tom Brady or Aaron Rodgers have the right and/or privilege to advance a view point even if it doesnt affect them.

This thread had promise and the mods graciously gave it a chance, but people just strengthened the mods resolve to not let political discourse happen. This thread will be deleted and people will be disciplined and we'll never be able to talk politics again.

    it is a shame.

On the plus side, I'd like to point out I behaved!

i said wealthy, because being from a place of privilege doesnt take away from others who dont have that privilege. just because you might be of puerto rican heritage who dont need help doesnt mean anyone who isnt puerto rican doesnt deserve the privilege of being treated as american. if these people struggling to survive in puerto rico were going through the same exact strife in, say, Biloxi, MI, woudl that be any different to you than what is currently transpiring?

yup, just like the same should be shown and given to the same american citizens in what you claim to be your own people of american citizens in puerto rico. your ignorance to puerto ricans role in america AS AMERICAN CITIZENS doesnt equal what should be an ignorance to what equals an american citizen.

Excuse me for putting words in your mouth Aesop, but

I'm pretty sure Aesop knows the status of Puerto Ricans Citizenship. I think he may be trying to point out (in his own way) the fact that Puerto Ricans, Just like the Citizens of Guam are Citizens in name only. They have no right to vote and no representation or official voice in our Government. They have a Governor, they pay taxes to the gov't. Guess what, they have Social Security numbers.
For their President (yes, unfortunately for them he is their President too) to spend more time blasting the NFL while these people are dying is shameful. Shameful.
Perhaps if we had granted them the statehood they should have they would not be considered second in line and would be getting the same national attention that Fla and Texas are getting/ have gotten.

If not then I'll point that out.

I will say I tune into NFLN and ESPN to get fantasy advice and learn about the teams and players, highlights and strategies. Hearing the same argument over and over, without any new angles really sucks. Moreover, they need to just dedicate a section of it and move on. Sprinkling it on the entire show is just cautious

Well dawn has come. I've read the posts since I went to bed last night and I can't express how utterly disappointed I am at the level of discourse, rancor and plain rudeness that some of you displayed last night. It was this lack of self control and maturity that caused the closure of the PoFo. Name calling? Threats of violence? Ill will wished upon family? Great job guys! :pity:

Ok, let's put this silly discussion of Puerto Rico to bed. PR is a US territory, acquired by the US following the Spanish-American War. The people of PR are US citizens, as are the people of Guam, American Samoa, the US Virgin Islands and every other territory we possess. They are US citizens, period. They enjoy US statehood however for a variety of political reasons, some of which I don't agree with but that's another topic of conversation. Disagreeing though on whether or not Puerto Ricans are citizens doesn't make you a racist and to loosely throw that term around is utterly insane.

I served in Korea. I was all over the country. I can't STAND Korea! Does that make me a racist? Well I can't stand the French either but I absolutely LOVED the Nigerians when I was deployed there...as well as the Emirates but wasn't too keen on the Kuwaitis. One may say I'm comparing apples and oranges but expressing my viewpoint on nations other than the US that's unfavorable compared to others' opinion doesn't imply racism...and that's what happened with this discussion on Puerto Rico.

Most women I've ever spoken to have told me the most HURTFUL thing they could ever be called is the "C" word. Well speaking for myself personally, being called a racist is the most hurtful thing I could ever be called. Just because I don't agree with you on an issue, or you don't agree with someone doesn't make them a racist. That word has been so loosely thrown around anymore that the true meaning of the word has been lost.

President Trump on Saturday stated how he'd like to see NFL owners fire players that knelt during the national anthem and it was instantly labeled as racist. And why? Well when you listened to all of the pundents that trolled, here was the formula that was applied. 70% of the athletes in the NFL are black. President Trump referred to those who knelt as SoBs. Since he called them SoBs, he was calling black athletes SoBs, ergo...racist.

Martin Luther King Jr called on equal opportunity for all black who were oppressed and although our country still has issues that need to be addressed, blacks have had the equal opportunity to prosper same as anyone else. But equal opportunity also applies on the flip side of the coin as well. All should be treated equally, given the same opportunity to prosper but also treated equally in criticism for actions taken. Criticizing a minority for his/her actions or statements made doesn't make you a racist.

No one said Donald Trump's comment themselves are racist. That doesnt mean they cant be racially charged. Donald Trump has been publicly racist since the 70's when he was charged with not renting his apartments to blacks and then settled within 3 weeks.

And your last paragraph is just straight up wrong and that is the entire point. If you think that blacks have the same opportunity to succeed in this country as whites you are as ignorant as it gets. Are they enslaved? No, of course not. But that doesnt mean they are treated the same and given the same rights and privileges, and that is the entire point in this conversation.

You know I'm 100% behind the kneeling. I don't agree with the reason, but whatever.

However, being upset over people who are upset with the kneeling is the same as being upset over those who are kneeling. In short, it's one in the same. You can't be for one and not the other if you're using the 1st Amendment as your reason.

As for the poncho, I have no idea what that means. lol

It's people like you that caused President Trump. The faux outrage and lies from a certain group of people has caused a huge shift in the political spectrum.

Believe it or not, most Americans are pretty close to center. When you get the majority of one side going over to the fringes of that side, which is what we've had for awhile now, it's going to swing back wildly to the other side until equilibrium is achieved. This is what we're seeing. The majority, the silent majority (which is why you can't trust polls), is sick and tired of being told that they are racist or that they are inherently luckier than some one else. These people are the backbone of America and the rest of the country are able to survive because of them. This group is also very fair and tolerant. So when they are constantly told that they are racists, bigots, stupid, etc., they get tired of it. Trump is what you see as their idea of a fix.

I find it funny that groups like "atifa" are the epitome of what they supposedly are fighting against. There is nothing more fascist than trying to tell people how they should think.

Those people being tired of being told of their privilege or their racism doesnt mean they arent inherently privileged or racist.

And your point about the polls just shows further the lack of education in america. The national polls were unanimously all correct/in the margin of error.
