As someone who has an Xbox 360 (I've had a couple of the older PS's), but mainly games on my PC, what would you all recommend I get?

I love open world games. I like 1st person shooters. I love game like Final Fantasy and Resident Evil. I play Madden.

They are both good, but l would go with PS4 only because it's the only system that has the Uncharted series.

Most of the third party titles are available on both systems, and mostly run the same.

The FF12 remaster will only be on the Sony systems, if you'd like to play that one. Horizon Zero Dawn is absolutely fantastic, as a Sony exclusive open world title.

I dont do anything FPS, but there do seem to be more of those on the MS systems.

Do you have, or are you getting a 4k tv? if not, you can save money and not get the pro.

Yeah, a fantastic open world game, with great storytelling.

Yeah, I don't own a 4K TV and no plans to buy one in the near future, so not much reason to upgrade to the PS4 Pro. If you do have one, I think it would be worth getting the Pro. As a PC gamer, you are probably used to gaming with better graphics than what the standard PS4 or Xbox One can do.

Now, I came over to the PS4 after not owning a Sony system since the original Playstation (I went from that to a Dreamcast, then Xbox, then Xbox 360). I've loved catching up on a number of Sony exclusives that I never got to play. That has added a lot of value to my PS4.

Here is a link for an article on the PS4 exclusives for 2017 (though some will be on PC too):
    https://www.forbes.com/sites/erikka...-exclusives-is-insanely-amazing/#205420385fe6

If you are not in a hurry to buy, I would not be surprised to see the PS4 hit $199 this Holiday season or still $249 but bundled with a couple great games.

All of my TV's are 4k. And Horizon Zero Dawn may be the tipping point into getting a PS4.

    Thanks for the input...

Yeah, the PC gaming is what I prefer, but there are some titles that I just can't play.

Wow. Ok. It will be many, many years before I get a 4K TV. They're just too expensive, and it doesn't seem like there's a lot of programming in that format yet. I'll be lucky to talk my wife into a second HDTV, lol.

Dude, I got a 4K Samsung 55" from Best Buy for under $1k. If you watch for sales you can get them for fairly cheap now. And you'd be surprised at the amount of 4K movies and shows you can find on Netflix, Amazon etc...

Of course, it also means that you can get a good 55" 1080p HDTV for under $400 now too. Quite the difference from the $1500 I paid for mine.

I think I'm going to go ahead and pull the trigger on the PS4 Pro. I may go ahead and get the VR headset while I'm at it. Anyone have experiences the that?

I've heard the PSVR is fun, but most of the games are closer to cool tech demos than full games. The fact others can watch on the TV screen makes it more of a group thing though, versus just the person in the VR headset seeing anything.

The prices on the 4K TVs are dropping, my in-laws just got a 55" for $600. We paid $1000 back in 2009 for our 42" 1080P HDTV, but have been pretty happy with it. At some point in the next two years, we'll upgrade to 4K.

The Xbox One shouldn't be considered at this point. Project Scorpio is launching in the fall and will have more power than PS4 Pro. However, most if not all MS exclusives are heading to the Windows Store any way. PS4 Pro has many exclusives that will never be on PC, so that's the one to get right now if any interest you. I have a base PS4 and it still does an admirable job on most games despite its power limitations.

    http://www.pushsquare.com/news/2017/05/opinion_why_sony_is_zagging_while_the_industry_zigs

I found this article to be interesting and dismaying at the same time. The essence is that the author feels that Sony is making many more traditional single player games while much of the industry focuses on online multiplayer, and that its a smart strategy to continue to attract gamers who are interested in those. As a Sony guy, I really hope that it continues, because I have zero interest in playing online.

I will say that Sony is not immune from this though. MLB The Show is a Sony exclusive, and the only AAA MLB game being made today, and they have gone full bore on the online aspects, greatly to the detriment of the single player franchise mode. To the point that I did not buy the title this year and will not.

By "much of the industry" does the author mean "Microsoft"? Because Microsoft is about it. Sony's first and second parties still focus mainly on single player games, and most third parties are single player focused. Nintendo has never cared too much about online multiplayer, just offline multiplayer. The head of the Xbox division came out and said single player games offer diminishing returns.

Frankly, most video games don't need to be online.

Many PC games are online/multiplayer now too, correct?

PC games are more mixed. You have stuff like Battlefield that's mainly multiplayer-focused but has a single player campaign, and you have stuff like Squad or Insurgency that's all online, and then you have things like Papers, Please and Witcher 3 that are single player.

Man, if you haven’t pulled the trigger yet on the PS4pro, you should wait for Xbox1 X. It’s future proof, better than the PS4 pro. If you like open world games tryout Just Cause 3. The game is crazzzy fun.

As long as my PS4 doesn't die, I'm just going to wait for the PS5. Although I have been surprised to see some 4K TVs on sale below $500 lately. By the time I eventually get one, something better will be out, lol.

I got the PS4 Pro. I knew when buying it that something potentially better may come along soon, but I'm satisfied.

Sorry for the moot advice. As far as I’m concerned, if your happy with your console that’s the main thing. When you get these things, you become so invested in the ecosystem it’s hard to make the switch. I hate when any fanboy try’s to justify why their “brand” is better than the other. Just Last Christmas, I saw this guy buying a system for his nephew and was asking the BestBuy clerk which was better. The clerk gave this guy some really crap advice so I squeezed my way into conversation and asked if his nephew already had a system. He said he had a PS. So I told him he should get them the Sony since they’re probably so invested in the ecosystem. Then he asked if I had one and I told him I had an Xbox1. He looked shocked. Later in line he thanked me for the advice and said that was the best advice he heard anyone tell him. Long point short, just stick to what you want or where your money is. And seriously, try Just Cause 3 .... just cause.

Yeah my 55” Samsung is 10 Y.O. and I’m just praying in dies although it doesn’t look like it is. I reeeaally want an LG OLED but just looking at the prices just hurt my eyes. Sony just got into the OLED game so maybe the prices will drop soon. But from what I’ve been reading is Sony gets their OLED screens from LG. And BTW good call on sticking with your brand. Hopefully Sony concedes and agrees to x- platform gaming.

I don't do online, so that's not an issue for me. Just want good single player games.

I don't know if I mentioned this in another thread, but our old HDTV died recently and we went ahead and got a 50" Samsung 4K. The upgrade to 4K is more subtle than the leap from standard to HDTV, but once you see it..... :)

All the games, even on my standard PS4 look a bit sharper and the color is better too (the HDR I guess). We still need to get an actual 4K Blu-ray player too, so we have not seen anything in "true" 4K.

As for the switching of ecosystems? Yeah, if you are more into the online multi-player games, I think a switch [uh, changing consoles] is really tough. I am mostly into the single player stuff, so changing back to Playstation after two generations of Xbox was not real painful. I've really enjoyed catching up on things like the Uncharted games which I never played before, along with a nice selection of exclusive games. That said, I'd buy an Xbox or Switch in a heartbeat if they somehow got a new and exclusive 2K Football game! :)

Have any of you actually started buying 4k movies? If so, is there that big of a difference? I'm not about to replace any of my Blurays like I did a lot of DVDs, but I might switch to buying new ones that way once I switch to the PS5.

I watched the 4K digital version of Spider-Man Homecoming on my buddy’s 4K OLED....Man it’s like watching live actors through a glass window, the picture was that spectacular. If you have a digital streamer, try renting a title in 4K. The disk version would, at the very least, be just as spectacular but I’m betting it would be even better due to over sampling the disk player performs. Basically the disk player would overlay 8 frames onto one another to produce the greatest possible picture into one frame.

I'll have to check out a display the next time I'm at Best Buy or Target. I've honestly paid no attention to them, knowing that I wouldn't be getting one for years.

I'll agree with that description of watching live actors with the 4K screen. We plan to buy an actual 4K Blu-ray player but not replace our regular Blu-ray collection -just buy the 4K version going forward.
