Yup. the very same people that blast Thill for the past are the same ones that say oline is the problem this year. Which is not only laughable since the oline this year has been better than any line Thill had outside of the 8 game run last year but it is also stupefyingly hypocritical.
What do you base the O-line improvement you see on? Show me some facts that substantiate that comment. So far in 2017 we have given up 17 sacks that when extrapolated out from 9 games to 16 games equals 30 sacks we'll give up this year. In 2016 we gave up 30 sacks. THE SAME NUMBER AS 2016! JUST AS BAD! So far in 2017 we have lost 129 yards from those 17 sacks which when extrapolated out over 16 games equals 229 yds lost. So based upon those numbers we will lose 7.6 yards per sack. in 2016 we lost 216 yards on the 30 sacks equaling an average loss per sack of 7.2 yards per sack. So in 2017 we are losing more yards and getting sacked more often. It's all right here. http://www.espn.com/nfl/team/stats/_/name/mia/year/2016
"You make a great point backed up by evidence, but unfortunately it's getting in the way of some quality onanism here, dude."
It only hurt him in the sense that he missed a year of playing time in a new system with a new coach where he was really starting to show big improvements. A lot of people endlessly bashed him when he was playing and now that he's out, a lot of those people are now realizing how valuable and important he is to the team with this new regime, whether they want to admit it or not. Going forward, a lot depends on his knees and if he can get back to 100%. Even if he comes back as the starter, the team may still draft a QB to groom for a bit, but if healthy, he will be our starter and a welcomed starter by many. If there is a great interior lineman in the next draft, they should seriously consider taking him.
Couple things here... you're assuming that the OL is solely responsible for all sacks. Backs, TEs, and WRs are also responsible for pass and run blocking. That has to be accounted for as well. Last season we had better blocking TEs, but worse pass pro from the OL itself. This season the pass pro from the OL has been much better, but the TE, back, and WR blocking has been worse. You also have to separate the pass blocking from the run blocking when gaging OL performance. If you're solely going to base your estimate on OL performance on number of sacks, then you need to use a site that tracks this metric like Football Outsiders. They have our in flux 2017 adjusted sack rate at 5.1%. Last year, it was at 6.3%... http://www.footballoutsiders.com/stats/ol Cheers.
I think Gase will trade Tannehill in the offseason based on some of the things the guys in the Monday night football booth had to say about the situation. I think he’ll make a panic trade for Kirk Cousins because he’s going to be on the hot seat next year.
The guys in the booth said that Miami has a tough decision to make with Jay Cutler. On what planet is it a tough decision to not sign Jay Cutler to another contract? Guy sucks.
You also have to consider that Cutler is less mobile than Tannehill. It's entirely possible that Cutler gets sacked more on last year's team.
so you trust the knee? You never trust the knee. you draft a qb high and you have a problem, hopefully, you never had before. and like the Pats, maybe you trade one for a high pick
I trust it. That doesn't mean that it will hold up, but from everything we've been shown he's waaaaaaay ahead of schedule and that means it must be healing up nicely.
He's been on the field throwing to the WRs in pre-game warm ups for a month now. He'll wear a brace next season, but he'll play.
Alex Smith is leading the way in QB ratings and he has 24 sacks. Brady is in 2nd place, he's been sacked 22 times this season. Cutler and Moore combined have 17 sacks.....Cutler has 13 total and that's the 5th lowest in the league. So I think when your team has almost 40% less sacks than the two league-leaders in your conference, it's not the sacks you should be pointing to in order to prove a point. In other words, it's not the line on passing downs. Let's talk about running plays now. Drake is averaging 6.8 yards per carry while Ajayi averaged just over 2.3 YPC. In fact, Drake's average is 5th league-wide with RB's over 20 carries on the season- that tells me that the run blocking can't be too terribly bad...especially when the coach you want fired traded Ajayi because he wouldn't run plays as designed. If Ajayi would have hit the holes, he would be right where Drake is. In other words, it's not on the line on running downs either. Your claim that our "line is horrible" just isn't supported by statistics. James has been awesome this season while Tunsil, Pouncey and our rotating centers have all been above average. The stats just don't show it on run plays because they're based on how far the RB travels....and Ajayi wasn't cooperating. That's on him though, not the line.
In all fairness pressure doesn't just include sacks. Cutler is pretty quick to just dump the ball at a lineman's feet before he takes a sack. That may be the reason he's been sacked so few times.
I completely agree...it wasn't my argument on sacks though. I was just providing some statistics that put it in a more unbiased perspective.
teams have more film this year. Teams saw the whipping Baltimore put on them etc. Teams figuring out Jay Ajayi. You can't say this year is like last year except for QB when our supposed star RB isn't even here anymore. Last year they beat one team with a winning record all year and that included injuring their QB. A win is a win is a win. But we didn't beat any tough teams except Pitt the first time. This year they got film on the team, they lost their starting QB, RB who was the spark plug last year isn't a spark plug anymore.
ACL"s for QBs aren't so bad. I looked it up and QB is the one position where ACL's don't affect their careers so much.
I wouldn't let Tannehill's presence keep me from taking a QB early if a guy I loved was sitting there, if the Eagles can move heaven and earth to secure Wentz at #2 with Bradford there on a brand new extension we can certainly take a guy that falls to us. And if Tannehill is as good as some here believe him to be then we should be flooded with great trade offers from a handful of teams...I don't think he's held in as high regard around the league as he is here.
they also said the knee was strong in the off season after the stem cell stuff and he was good to go in pre season and it blew out, really i don't want him to be ahead of schedule he should stay on schedule and miami should make sure of this.
what about mobile qb's does it affect them more? i would assume it should affect them alot more. RT strength is his running ability if it affects that what does it do to his all around game
