I'm well into the FF12 remaster, and have enjoyed it greatly for the most part. The problem that I'm coming up against is that, with most of my characters around level 45, my license boards are already almost completely full. While having to choose a primary and secondary job does add a level of interest and challenge, and possibly replay value, it also limits the characters in ways beyond what I was even expecting.

The one with the most effect is that the characters only have one set of HP boost spots available to them. Once those are done, thats it. Its left me with a lot less HP than I expected. I may be remembering wrong, but I think that in the original game, if a player was willing to put the time into grinding, they could go around the whole big board and get all of them that they wanted. Thats always the way that I play.

The other is that if you choose two jobs that are similar, you don't get the ability to double up on things like battle power or magic power. I made that mistake with Basch, thinking that since I wasn't going to use magic, I could turn him into a super strong brute, but it hasn't worked out that way. He just has fewer options to pick from than the others.

In the end, Ashe, who's a Red Mage/Bushi, is my most powerful character, and can pretty much rock at anything except time magic. I was surprised that even though, between my six characters, I chose 11 different jobs, only Vaan who has the Time Battlemage as his second, has Haste. I understand Hastega and Slowga, but the basic magic should show up somewhere else, especially one as useful as that.

I've also found myself hardly ever using the summons. I'm not sure if I've just gotten out of that habit after playing so many other RPGs that don't feature it, but I don't find them all that useful, and I really used them a ton back in those days.

I… don't understand the Assassin's Creed crossover. Who thought of this, who decided it was a good idea, and who thinks the absolutely stunted looking movement in the promo trailer is fun?

I also have to give S-E credit, they are supporting the hell out of FFXV. It's basically a content delivery platform at this point, not just a play-through-it-once game. Good for them. The MMO development model applied to single player works surprisingly well.

Square has ruled out making DLC for Ardyn. They leave open the possibility of virtually anything else, though.

Personally though, if content isn't part of a single player game, I have a hard time caring all that much, or taking it seriously. Throwing it out there in some other form of media and calling it cannon seems lazy to me, especially with a character like this whos whole story, background and motivations were only barely hinted at to begin with.

Well, thats pretty much the exact opposite of what I would want, and frankly decreases my desire to ever play them.

Just access them from the main menu when they break off from the story. It's super obvious when these things happen and when you should go play the DLC.

I'd be more upset about them announcing that Ardyn won't get a dedicated DLC because they think it wouldn't tell his story optimally. Like, what? How would it not?

Guess they are more focused on milking the game with things like a Mobile Strike imitation game, a watered down mobile version, etc.

How about some action figures, pogs, and a tiger electronic game?

There are plenty of FF15 Play Arts figures.

So they've announced additional content going into 2018, and just released a patch with background story on the Astrals. They're also talking about a second season pass for the new content. I think they only way they can get away with that is to do new gameplay DLC, not just story add-on.

A good article about FF XV to date. A year later, I'm honestly a little disappointed by what they've added, as I expected more. Hopefully they aren't done, because they are still major things left unfinished, such as the ability to permenantly add characters to the party beyond the core 4, more weapons and armor, and the ability to change Noctis's appearance as was suggested. I guess time will tell.

It was never mentioned by Square that I can remember, but I would also deeply appreciate a prologue chapter, before the game actually begins, that gives a better introduction to the characters. Where Noctis can explore the castle and city and meet up with his bros before the king summons them.

I doubt you'll see anything game-wise since there is a movie and anime.

I'm in no way expecting it, just would love for it to be so. Hopefully, the next time they create a game, the process is a lot smoother and straightforward, and they can get the game they originally intended, and without the need for all of the fixing and patching afterwards. Square obviously has tried very hard to make it right and done the best that they can, but it would have been better had they not been behind the 8 ball the last few years.

Episode Ignis looks like it's going to provide the story we were promised.

And with new content coming in 2018, maybe we'll get that Noctis DLC.

Well, slowly but surely. I have to hand it to Square, they're trying hard to eventually make XV a complete game. It'll be interesting to eventually do a second playthrough someday.

My guess is that Tabata left because the DLC was being canceled, not vice-versa.

Square-Enix will be fine. They'll pump out another MMO and a mobile game and make money. The question is what happens to the Final Fantasy series.

Same here. But the top tier publishers just want to monetize everything. Look at Fallout 76 and Battlefront 2.

I'll cross my fingers that Bethesda is telling the truth and 76 has zero bearing on what happens with their next "real" projects.

But again, Skyrim just had its 7th birthday this week. Sadly, studios going a decade or so between releases in a series are becoming all too normal.

I wouldn't say this at all. Rockstar does that, but because they can afford to, and because expectations are so high that they have to take their time. But the last decade has nothing but sequels, to the point where the current console generation's best games are remakes of the previous generation's games.

Well, I was exaggerating a bit. But FF13 came out in 2009, and then we had to wait until 2016 for FF15. As I said, we're already seven years between ES titles, and a decade seems optimistic at this point for ES6. Dragon Age 3 came out in 2014, and it looks like it will be 2020 or 2021 at the earliest for the next one. And though CDPR is now saying that they're open to the idea of another Witcher game starring someone other than Geralt, its going to be a LONG time down the road.

Thank goodness that AC has gotten into the RPG business!
