no. learn to read. you are caught up in an average. so are most people here. he could average $20M a year. there are ways of doing the deal where it's fronted with cash and the back end is not guaranteed
I remember that drop Stills had in the Seattle game, he turned out all-right. At this point, with Parker crapping his khaki's, that all I expect... all-right.
your mediocre qb signed a $98M contract for 6 years. That's $16 a year. If he makes it through 2018, he would have averaged $11M
LOL I know you don't understand. But averages don't mean anything. it's all about what's guaranteed. Now that I have schooled you, please stop harassing me
In a possibly futile attempt to get back on topic... Kenny Stills: Dolphins haven’t lost faith in WR DeVante Parker http://dailydolphin.blog.palmbeachp...te-parker/?ecpm=pbp_social_twitter_sports_sfp Jason Lieser December 14, 2017 "DeVante Parker has shown too much ability and done too much work on his game behind the scenes for the Dolphins to give up on him now. And.... http://www.miamiherald.com/sports/spt-columns-blogs/armando-salguero/article189867619.html "Over the past nine months, fans and perhaps even opponents have watched with curiosity as the Miami Dolphins have managed their relationship with receiver Jarvis Landry.
That SD game, as great as it was, Cutler, to my recollection, put up 50/50 balls. Devante has lost that fight and will, and it's resulted in INTs. I wish we could just hit him in stride, across the middle or deep. But that takes time to throw.
I think 10 - 12 mil per season is a fair deal for Landry at this point. 13 is a little too high I think.
I love Landry, I would pay him 13 at highest... he’s earned it, I know it seems easy but being the fastest player to 400 catches isn’t easy. Health/durability is number 1 reason why this would be EXTREMELY hard but this guy is a different breed of toughness. Pay the man.
What do you do if he wants more than 13? Tough question indeed. He has certainly earned a pay day, does he deserve to be a little overpaid? I am glad I won't be making that decision.
who cares what the average is? show me the guaranteed money. He could average $20M per year and sign a $100M deal, and get cut before he sees a chunk....thus lowering his average
Personally, I think so, he wears his heart on his sleeve and his attitude towards the game is hard to find with today’s players. He would be a huge loss, imo. Who is replacing him? It’s not that easy.
I would have to agree, what he brings is hard to put a monetary value on to it. I can almost guarantee that once he is paid, he will continue to work hard and represent this organization well....he has an inner drive to succeed. These are the kind of men I would be willing to overpay a bit
I agree he is a very good receiver and his fiery attitude and dependability is great for the team. However he is not a game changing receiver, his overall impact on the offense is not that much considering he has been playing all season long and our offense still sucked. Therefore I would not overpay for him no matter how much I like him. I would much rather spend money on a big time tight end or a couple of quality olinemen who would have a lot more impact on our offensive performance.
Hit: once we cut Tannehill, James, Pouncey and Thomas, there will be plenty money. Don't worry, it will be built stronger and cheaper
He has given this team more of a chance to win than anybody on that offense. Idk what games your watching. Most times this season it would like he was the only one competing on offense and you want to get rid of that? For what? Cardoo? This ain’t madden
Sometimes, I wish you guys could see what Jarvis would do on a team like NE. He would average 120 receptions, 1,200-1,300 yards and 8-10 tds every season. If Edelman is doing it then better believe Jarvis would top everything he did. He’s better. One guy plays with Brady and that’s the difference I have zero doubt that NE would give Jarvis so much more routes (downfield especially) and be used to his fullest extent possible.
Remember there are 2 sides arguing the contract. You will not get low year 1 and 2, low signing bonus and low guaranteed money. You are NEVER going to see a contract like that. Landry is not going to sign a "prove it" deal. If you want to give him low year 1 and 2, then the player is accepting a team friendly deal, so he will expected either higher signing bonus, or more guaranteed money. Thus you are front loading the contract, or forcing dead money into the later parts of the contract. If you pay him higher for his first years then you are showing a commitment to the player, and they will often accept less signing bonus, or guaranteed money. You hope both parties are entering into the contract with an honest expectation that the contract will be completed by both sides. (minus the obvious restructure in the final year of most contracts) So when you are talking about a new contract, avg. is pretty important. It needs to be in alignment with 1. what you are expecting to get from the player. and 2. What the player should be expecting as compensation. If it is out of a rational range of those 2 things, then 1 of the parties is clearly not expecting to honor the contract. As an organization its a horrible decision to do business this way. It will shatter your reputation, and guarantee difficult negotiations going forward.
Dude, Tannehill is not going anywhere. Gase is not going anywhere either. So just to reciprocate your kindness about other Dolphin fans not getting disappointed, do not get your hopes up. You can write it as many times as you like(and I am sure you will continue to) it won't make it true. As Ric Flair once said " Whether you like it or don't like it, Learn to live with it!!!! WOOOOOOOOO!
Gase will stay, doesn't matter what I want. He will get another year. Miami has a $15M-$17M decision to make. They designed the contract this way for THIS reason. Think what you want, RT is no lock
I find it ironic, because his agent said no dealing during the season. Miami maybe more desperate now that Parker and Carroo and Grant all suck
I heard there is a post June 1 cut too, right? My plan is to see where the team can build and what they can sign and draft. If things don't fall their way, they keep RT. That's advantage of his deal. But worse case, we draft a qb and keep RT for one more year. Best case, we get Brees and draft a qb. Either way, we need to get younger and more talented FOR THE FUTURE.
Yeah, I had hoped they would have tried to lock Landry up before the others looked this bad. It would have given Miami a little bit more negotiating power. I'm not down on Grant yet though. For a 6th rd pick that touchdown last week alone was all he needed to do to live up to that position. If he can get kick returns figured out, he might even fall into the great pick category.
The saints have all intentions to sign Brees and he wants to finish his career there so I wouldn’t couldn’t on that. Ok so if one of these qbs drops to us and we have a high grade on him you want to take him... interesting but I don’t think the front office will feel the same in this case.. I think if we have a Russell Wilson situation where our hopeful superior scouting finds us a gem at the right price then cool, go for it.. I haven’t studied the qbs yet so I can’t say I would or wouldn’t yet
One thing that occurs to me when reading that, is that the Dolphins are apparently happy to know they have a professional in Landry now (possibly, I won't take the truth for granted in the disposable media). However, I think back to what somebody here said about Parker a couple of weeks ago, that a guy who pulls it together in his contract year just to get his money is not a guy you want to pay. I'm not saying I want Landry out or Parker to be signed long term after next year. I'm just saying the same line of thinking must come into play when committing cap dollars to Landry. He showed he can make the offseason program and not take stupid penalties after plays, or other immature stuff in his contract year. Once paid, would he revert? I know asking the question or raising the point may be considered sacrilege to some, but has to be considered, regardless of the fact that Landry has been very productive and Parker has not, consistently.
I think you have todd 1 million dollars to the contract just because the dude is built like a tank and doesn't get hurt, never missed a game, that production has value..
You shouldn't pay a wr $12milion a year who gets better if we had a #1 wr. We have to overpay him because Parker never developed. Oh well. Landry is a good wr who has used his physical abilities to produce 120% More than he should. Because he's extremely football savvy. He's gonna get $12m because Parker didn't turn into Aj Green. It is what it is. With $20m in two WR that aren't elite we gotta figure things out otherwise. Let see imagine: Stills and Landry get what they get. What if Parker does figure it out (unlikely). Paying Landry that much forgoes an elite wr unless we draft one and Stills comes off the books. But I'll let the fo worry about that.
He has that many catches because we haven't had anyone else to throw to. If his ypc or catch percentage were extraordianary I'd appreciate it more. But both are very pedestrian
I’m well aware. And that’s our difference. You blame the player, I blame the lame system/playcalling. If we see him on a team like NE, GB, or even PHI, we would see a major increase in those numbers.
I appreciate the attempt to get it back on topic. In the future please don’t post full articles, I have edited these down to a few sentences and the link which s how it’s supposed to look. Thank you
let's assume they are engaged in contract talks. If they do indeed finalize or come up with parameters, kudos to FO for earmarking his money so they can do some planning.
Over reward him? As far as I’m concerned, since he’s has been in the NFL, he is the only offensive player for the Phins that actually deserves a REWARD/2nd Contract. I don’t see how we resign Stills but let Landry leave, that’s what losin teams do... oh wait, that’s right. Lol Why don’t we try to give Landry more opportunities down field? See how that works, if someone brings up a 40 time, I will disregard everything you have to say because you don’t understand football and how it works. There’s straight line speed and than there’s football speed, 2 totally different things.
Ive been saying it since his college days, the father away he gets from the LOS the easier cover he is.. but I'm ready to make a deal at 12/ mill 5 years.
