Well, as a consumer, I think that I'm a fan. Hopefully, its a high quality product, sells well, and they keep up doing what they're doing.

Enjoying the beginning stages of the game so far, but a couple complaints:

-I had to switch to the "Alternate" control scheme, something about the default settings wasn't working for me. (might be more of an individual problem)
-Combat is sluggish. When Bayek isn't locked on (how I primarily fight), he swings to the nearest enemy, which is annoying. It should be a controlled direction of movement here. Sometimes the attacks feel so latent with my button presses, and trust me, it's not a TV issue. Sometimes my heavy attacks don't even register. The only time I use a shield is when blocking arrows, other times it's just a better decision to just dodge.
-Ubi needs to re-evaluate some of their stealth mechanics. I shot a guy in the head at one of the camps. Other guys saw his body, and freaked out and began to investigate. Understandable stealth mechanic. Coming directly over to the bush where I'm hiding, before checking any other place.. what the hell? It wasn't coincidence either. It happened multiple times during multiple other occasions. I hadn't been seen during any of these occasions.
-Speaking of combat, fighting the animals is kind of stupid. Even the lions go down like little *****es.

Loving the exploration and setting though. And I like the loot-based system re the melee equipment. I still feel like stealth kill should equal automatic kill, allowing skilled players to take on higher-level content, but also realize that this would be an issue with game pacing. Still, when I'm only a couple levels under the guys I'm trying to stealth-kill, and it still isn't a one-hit kill, it's kind of ****ty.

Sounds like it needs a few patches to refine some details. Sounds about right.

    I'll pick it up eventually.

I think that would be a sound decision. Unsure if the things I'm *****ing about get patched though. Guess we'll see.

I finished the game today and I'd say it is now my favorite in the series. The story does feel like a complete reset, including the present-day storyline. There are some very nostalgic parts late in the game as well that I loved.

If you usually spend a month on an AC game then this one will probably be double that

The one thing I didn't like about the game is how much of a grind it can be. The new combat can stay, but I would be OK if the next one was less of an RPG. There some good side quests, but I was almost losing my mind doing them just to level up to a story quest.

A little further into the game now.

So I'm going to redact a couple things I said in the above post. The combat when you aren't locked on is fully free, don't know what I was thinking. Combat is still a little slow. I feel like you should be able to parry the "unblockable" attacks, I feel like you should be rewarded for your timing. The Parry skill doesn't reward you for timing on the more dangerous enemies, because they mainly use attacks you're forced to dodge. Me vs. Animals opinion hasn't changed, I usually just jam light attack until nothing is breathing any more.

One thing that is nice about this game is that if you alert a group of enemies, or enemy, and dispatch of them quickly before they run and grab friends or light a brazier, you're not sunk for the rest of the stronghold (stealth-wise). Don't know how much of this has been a part of previous installments, the last AC I played all the way through was AC2, I only played half of the ****-show that was Unity and then didn't bother with Syndicate.

They're clearly trying to accommodate people who just want to **** **** up. There's a whole melee tree, arbalests in the big camp to raise hell, and whole lot of other things. That's cool and all.. but I thought this was an assassin game? There's no way anybody could take on an entire 3-spear base unless they're massively-overleveled.. but I feel like they could have put more towards the stealth-geared player like myself. How about skills to lower your general visibility? The guards have eagle-sight sometimes in this game, smoke bombs are only a half-measure for escaping after you've already been found. Sometimes the guards see me when they shouldn't, I have no idea what their cones look like. Guess I'll just have to adjust.

The game is absolutely gorgeous, despite it being clunky and buggy sometimes, and like the first post I made, I'm really enjoying the exploration. I thought this would be the part I liked least. I'm genuinely excited to see what the next section has in store for me. A couple bugs that have reoccurred for me, enough to stick out in my memory:

-Quests where you have to follow NPCs. Half the time, you'll ask yourself, "Where the hell are they going". I had to wait a minute following a guy who continued to gallop his horse into a stone barrier.
-Sometimes I'll be riding my horse and the game will just stop for 5 seconds abruptly. I always go, "****.." thinking I'll have to Close Application but it works itself out. Not a huge deal but jarring to say the least. Only happens when I'm commuting on the horse, might be a loading issue.
-Gone to a couple animal lairs and, due to my position, they just act completely lost. Went to a lion lair once and shot them from a cliff above. They all wigged out in place, it looked like they were having an impromptu lion dance party.

    Pro Tip:

Do the sidequests in an area before you start checking off all the undiscovered locations, the sidequests will often send you to these locations. It's strange, because the game can't decide what it wants you to do in these instances. Sometimes, I'll go to a random undiscovered location and I'll get granted for completing a sidequest that I otherwise, could have picked up before I went to the location. Cool. Other times, sidequests will send me back to locations I've already explored on my own with replenished enemies. Why couldn't I have finished this quest on my first trip, like I did a bunch of other times? Frustrating. I want to explore, but it's not exploring if you have to do it twice, ya know? It's weird when the game allows you to do that and complete sidequests while you're doing it sometimes, and then other times, sends you back to an area you've already cleared to.. yep, clear it again.

I think the 8/10 consensus is pretty accurate. It's a fun game, just missing some refinement.

Maybe, my complaints are pretty specific outside of the technical hiccups. I don't expect a lot of people to share the same opinion as me when it comes to the more foundational design choices, nor do I expect them patched.

@invid In past AC games alerting one guard would alert the entire camp. Thankfully that was fixed. I remember screwing up in the last major infiltration and getting a headshot on the guard running to the brazier. It was awesome.

You can parry ANY attack. I was wrong.

I got the Chain Assassination skill and the bow skill that grants you a window of slo-mo after a kill. With a predator bow, I feel totally capable of stealth-killing an entire camp, it's great. The enemies don't have set paths, per se, but I'm finding myself enjoying that. The game gives you plenty of places to hide, and the randomness of enemies' paths has led to some really fulfilling improvisational moments. I haven't been as satisfied with moments like those since the first Shadow of Colossus, specifically the little lion colossus about 1/3 through the game.

I've played through some of the Hippodrome. Very boring part of the game, IMO.

I hate the parts of the game where you're accompanied by NPCs to take on a camp. I usually lead them to the camp, let them die, and then do my own thing. I just don't get the parts of this game where they almost want you to go in bows blazin'. Not for me. These games have always been about stealth to me.

I'm also insanely overleveled. I might bump the game up to Hard mode pretty soon. I'm level 29 and just reached Memphis, which is a 20-23 area. It looks like the game slows down post-level 30. So we'll see what happens then. I found the area of Giza, a little boring too. I enjoy the busy, condensed, towns more. I realize this is based in Ancient Egypt, so what are you gonna do. I'm still having a positive experience with the game.

Today is the 10 year anniversary of the original game's release. Who else has been playing the title since Day One?

The original game was such a fantastic and original concept. I had so much fun exploring, climbing on everything, and being really crappy at stealth, lol. It also hand a tendency to freeze up my PS3 if I went too wild with free running.

Unbeknownst to me, there's a quest in here involving a FFXV cross-promotion.

    Very WTF moment.

Yeah, I don't know how I feel about cross-promotion. I think as easter eggs, it works. This quest definitely felt shoe-horned in, and it didn't make any sense at all.

Its very likely that I'll never check it out. No broadband until June, so I'll be playing the vanilla version of the game when I get it. I'm hopeful that there aren't any game breaking bugs that needed patched.

I just picked up AC Origins on sale at Target for $39.99. I've only played about two hours, to level 4, but I really like what I'm seeing so far. It looks and feels like an AC game, but better. My immediate thought was how similar the gameplay is in some ways to HZD. Moving from that title to AC is an easy transition.

To this point, the graphics don't seem like much of a jump from Syndicate, but they're very solid. I wasn't able to do any patches or updates, so I likely missed some important fixes, but the lip sync has been way off a few times, including in cut scenes. That seems like a pretty glaring mistake to let slip through, given how good games from most other studios have been this generation.

25 hours in, and I'm very impressed with what Ubisoft has been able to do/chosen to do with the game. It still feels like AC, but they've clearly taken ideas from other games and incorporated them into their system, and usually in a good way. Everything flows better than it typically did in past AC titles.

And I think that I'm probably still just getting into the meat of the game and story, as there is a lot of the map that I either haven't been to at all or only briefly.

I dislike how the "open world" game actually isn't very open world at all. I wanted to go see the Sphinx, so I diverted off course, and got stuck in a mission that required a higher level than I was at.

Haven't picked it up since. Maybe next month.

I noticed pretty early on that if you zoom all the way out on the world map, each "province" has a recommended level range. I learned the hard way that this is something to take seriously, because they will kill you instantly if you wander too far off. It feels a bit restrictive at first, but once I got a little while into the game it really quit being an issue. I'm level 29 now, and still haven't explored about half the map. Leaves a lot left to discover.

I've played about 70 hours, and am at level 40. I just completed a major, long questline that seems to have brought me close to the main story's ending, though I could be wrong. However, there's also still a lot to see and do, and I've only uncovered about 2/3 of the world map. While exploring, I just came to another major city, with six or seven new side quests showing up on the map to undertake.

I read early reviews that the game had about 30 hours of gameplay, but that is just insanely low. Even if you were to take the narrowminded view to ignore everything other than the main line (which would be a horrible waste), I still don't see how you get to the needed levels that quickly.

I've also found it very interesting that while the main storyline touches on the "traditional" AC elements involving thing beyond the normal scope of the world, I've also come across several others while exploring or undertaking wholly optional sidequests off the beaten path. Things that ad to and go into the overall lore of the series, tucked into the dark corners of the game's world, there for dedicated players.

One of my biggest gripes is the removal of the game's encyclopedia, where when you meet a person or visit a place, you can then read about it afterwards by going into the menu. There are storyline reasons why its not the same as it always was, but it still could have been there, and I miss it.

Well, that's just disappointing. I get to level 40, and as always, the XP progress bar appears at the bottom of the menu screen. Shows I need about 20,000xp to raise my level again. So I explore, complete quests, kill enemies, ect, and after I level up I'm at.....level 40. Apparently a hard, needless cap.

Why? Shouldn't I be able to grind and level myself as highly as I see fit? So stupid. At least they give you the points to put towards learning a new skill. Weapons and armor apparently cannot be leveled beyond 40 either.

Its not like I'm overleveled to the point of making the game easy. I'm still getting killed. One flaming arrow can take off half of my HP.

Level caps are now used as incentives to get people to buy DLC. "Raises the level cap 10 levels!" Thanks, Fallout.

This is why JRPGs are the best. You can grind to level 99 right from the start… if you have enough patience.

I'm curious to see if the New Game Plus mode raises the max. I'll probably get all of the DLC at some point next year and play it through again.

The weird thing is though, that there are still plenty of things to see and do, and a good portion of the map that I've not uncovered. They have very clearly given the player the ability to level up well beyond 40 just by the normal means. So why cut it off.

Oh well, I'm going to keep exploring to find more things hidden away before I continue with the story.

It's not really a big deal, though. The level number is super-arbitrary in this game. The only bearing it really has is on weapon upgrades and level upon discovery.

I like to mega level up towards the end of a game though. If there are areas left to explore, then I want to keep moving up the ladder until I'm done!

I'm actually extremely excited, because there are so few single player, third person RPGs coming out in the near future. No, its not the AC that it used to be, but its the type of game that I love, so I'm into it.
