Picking this up Friday. I really like the series and was uncertain about the new direction, but it looks fun as hell. Anyone else?
God of War is a celebration of toxic masculinity. It is so much fun. The new version looks weird because Kratos has more emotions than anger and guilt.
I was always kinda, "Ok" with this series. The older ones didn't fill the void for me between Devil May Cry releases on the action front, though they were mildly enjoyable. This one kind of has that, as many game pundits have noted, Last of Us feel. Not sure if I'll find that satisfying on the action game front. If it's fast like HZD, Nier, Bayonette, etc., I'm down. If it's more ploddy, like Last of Us, then I'll probably wait for a sale. I'd be interested to know your guys' opinions on that.
That's one of my big issues with that type of game. If I can't get at least 30+ hours out of something, its not worth my time.
You can absolutely get 30+ hours out of this game. The story will take you 15 minimum. 20-25 for most people.
Sorry, I now realize my first post was confusing. Is the ACTION fast? The Devil May Cry series are some of my favorite games, and I'm kind of always "chasing the dragon" when it comes to that. Closest game to have to come to the feel of the originals has been Nier: Automata.
No, it's not as fast like Devil May Cry. You can do some cool combos but the pace of combat requires you to be careful with your timing and blocking. You have to watch for cues from enemies characters when they unleash their strong attacks. Some of these attacks are unblockable and require you to dodge. The son is also important part of the combat as he can help with distractions and his arrows. The combat system is very satisfying though and mastering it is pretty tough.
It's not DMC fast, but it's faster than Bloodborne. It feels better than Nier, too, AND it has more depth. And I really can't go into it more without spoiling something.
