    Minkah Fitzpatrick: A-
    Mike Gesicki: B-
    Jerome Baker: C-

In all three cases we left players on the board who I believe were better options.

I would have chosen edmunds or james over fitzpatrick,

Would have preferred Mark Andrews or Dallas Goedart over Gesicki.

And I would also have selected shaqueem griffin over Jerome Baker. Baker is the worst pick so far. He is soft and a liability against the. Not even that great against the pass either. Looks like a special teamer to me. Griffin otoh would have been an immediate impact player.

For the first time in a long time I like and trust what is being done this draft. Each piece of the puzzle might not make sense to each of us, but I for one am excited to see these pieces added to the final puzzle. Tannebaum must be sedated in a broom closet because I am very happy with what we have done with our picks. Hate on Baker all you want, but I am confident they saw twice as much film on him as they have others since he was there with McMillan when we studied him last year. Also, he very well may be a situational LB if McDonald is used in some LB packages. It could be his learning year and then net year we cut TJs contract. You have to believe there is a vision there, even if we can't see it.........yet.

My ( just a regular guy ) draft grades on how I think they will help the Dolphins. Included in my grade are personality traits like intangibles, etc.

Fitzpatrick A (fukin)+ Intangibles are why I like him so much. However, he's going to have to earn it. If he does, our locker room culture could start to change for the better. Note: Not saying Jones doesn't work hard and have a great attitude. He does. Some guys are just natural leaders. I think Fitzpatrick is one of them.

Gesicki A+ Y-iso TE who is a scheme fit. Bucky Brooks said his long strides should help him get separation out of his breaks. Should help us move the chains and in the red zone.

Baker B- Growing on me a little bit. Has the physical traits. How far he will go will depend on how hard he works in the film room. I hope our LB coach is worth a damn. This unit really has to improve.

Baker is good vs the pass. Look at his defense of Saquon Barkley and Ronald Jones.

After listening to Grier I understand why we took him. It's all about speed now at LB. He also had a good recommendation from Raeqwon from the time they had together at Ohio State. He seems like a guy who is going to come in and work. That's all we can ask. The draft will get guys in the door. What they do with it, is up to them.

Last year I hated our first pick and the fact we didnt trade down in the first, but after that I was happy with most of the guys drafted.

This year I like our fist pick better than last year. Even though I would have been happier if we went with some of the other players available.

Our draft this year got progressively worse with each pick exept for the Notre Dame TE who I like. Gesicki is a good seem threat bit thats all he's good for. He is not much of a route runner and is a terrible blocker. Probably the worst blocking TE in the draft. I think we would have done better drafting Andrews or Goedert instead.

I would take issue with Gesicki--not necessarily in your analysis, but how its weighted.

True, he's not a great blocker. He's doesn't run a 4.3 40. But, what he's good at, he's VERY good at. Getting open in the seam and giving us a red zone option with a huge catch radius is--huge. On third down, having him is going to open up options that weren't available to us in the past two seasons. Teams can't just cover our slot WR with no speed to shut down the passing game.

Having Gesicki flexed out on first down opens up options in the running game. If a S is put in the box, that opens up deep threats. As for as Goedert or Andrews--I wouldn't worry about them. We could only pick one, we chose Gesicki. Andrews wasn't exactly a hot commodity and Goedert has other issues, namely our FO likes BIG SCHOOL players. They just do.

And to touch on a few others...In the third round, we have a guy that can run with RBs, esp in coverage on wheel routes. He can also blitz out of those coverage alignments. He gives us something in our LB corps that we didn't have...speed and production. He was a tackling machine at OSU. Pairing him with McMillan is going to give us potential to be very good at LB.

Kalen Ballage gives us a running back that can be an asset in the passing game, take some carries from Drake, and is a threat to score every time we get the ball in his hands. I think he's going to really benefit from being around Frank Gore--Ballage needs to learn to be a professional, which will help his incredible physical skills get manifested on the playing field.

While opinions are like a$$holes...everyone has one and they all stink, I believe this is quite contrary to yours...keeping in mind of course, the Dolphins RARELY get any love in the press

i like how people say he can't block so he sucks. i guess no one learns anything once they get drafted. you just stay in a vacuum of skill from when you leave CFB and go to the NFL. It's like the coaching they get goes in one ear and out the other because your CFB skillset never evolves...

That's the thing though that a lot of people don't get even though Gase has said it a billion times- he wants mis-matches on the field that defenses can't cover. With a big TE that runs like a WR with amazing hands and a huge catch radius, you are forced to make a choice...put a LB on him (TD Miami) or bring over a safety to leave Parker in 1:1 coverage on the other side of the field. Meanwhile, Grant is also 1:1 in the slot against your other safety and you have Stills spread out wide....so you have a quadruple deep threat or a beautiful lane for Drake to run through. There's no ideal coverage here because we have five guys that can knock it down your throat.

By the way, that's exactly why we want McDonald more in a hybrid linebacker role....and exactly why Fitzpatrick is so off the charts valuable. It's also why we grabbed Baker in the 3rd...we're grabbing all-around players who don't just fit one mold. This was a very smart, thought-out draft; I don't think any of these guys just "fell to us" as much as we worked the perfect strategy to get Gase-like talent.

It is really irrelevant to grade a draft until the players selected have been in the league at least three years. That stated, I am happy with the first two draft picks. As far as from the third round through the seventh round picks are concerned, I have no idea if any of these players will effective in the NFL. I just hope we get two or three players from this latter part of the draft to contribute consistently over the next few years.

I still think the DL and the LB Corp are going to be an issue this coming season. Hopefully the offense will be able to put more points on the scoreboard and make up for what appears to be a defense that still needs another good draft before it starts to show marked improvement, IMO.

I tend to agree that the players need to have been in the league a couple of seasons or so before it is "fair" to grade their selection. However, if people are basing their grades on where that prospect ranks and whether that player addresses a need, then grade according to whether that player presents good value at that point or is considered a reach, then I suppose it is fair to give a grade based on a projection and revisit it later down the line.

The way I see it is that if a team drafts a guy with a day two grade on day one, for example the Seahawks drafting Rashad Penny, then that selection rightly gets a "C" or worse grade because it's a massive reach based on draft projections. Now if he has a huge first and second season, no one will bat an eyelid and people that said it was a good pick will be proven right, but if he fails then those that called it a questionable pick will be able to say they were right that the Seahawks reached. Time will tell whether that pick will work out for them or not.

For me, I do think true grades take a couple of seasons or so, but initially grades are based off draft projections and prospect rankings, also whether they fill a need or not. So teams get criticized based on that, right or wrong.
