Not good news for Allen. Wonder if this will change during the season, as Crocker seems to get exposed then?
I wouldn't worry about Allen though. They saw what they saw in thsi game, he played the whole damn thing and he was all over making plays. He did make some mistakes though. But Allen appears to me, to be a player that looks like crap when it don't count but when the lights are on, he plays better and better with more experience. If he can't beat Crocker out during the season, well he needs to sit then. Crocker hasn't beaten anything. Ever, as far as I can tell. I see why your shaking your head though King.
Well actually you should "give a hoot". I mean teams get better by making their draft picks count, especially 1st rounders that they invest so much cap space into. The fact that Allen it appears has again failed to play up to his draft status is just yet another sign of wasted draft opportunities. Damn shame. Meanwhile, Cromartie is looking like a top corner for San Diego, a guy MANY people on here were convinced we'd take. Another head shaker in Dolphins draft history..... God there have been so many.
Now this is disappointing, Allen has played well this preseason. The unsaid is though, the KC game mattered more then we think, that will be out team, my guess is they like Jason Allen, they let him play the whole game, he did well, no way do they undervalue him now.
Not every player will do the same in every situation... Just because Cromartie is looking good on the top defense in the NFL doesn't mean he'd be looking like that... ever... in Miami. I think it's way too soon to write Jason Allen off, I honestly can't see Crocker being the starter for the first game...
Honestly, I am concerned when guys like Jason Allen and John Beck are struggling to make this team. It's partly bad draft choices that got us into this mess, and that's exactly why Bill Parcells and co. are here today.
Hey, Jamar Fletcher has finally caught on with Texans. THey kinda like him over there. Weird. Is Crocker our Jamar Fletcher reincarnate? Will Jason be JF to another team?????
Who knows? GM's chat, if Irish thinks some CB time would be helpful that would explain an awful lot about all of this. As a I recall, Sparano was adamant that Allen was a Safety, would always be a Safety, and moving him to CB was a terrible idea....err....
They aren't doing this based on game play that's for sure. Crocker badly blew deep coverage on that Bowe pass that he dropped and otherwise hasn't shown all pre-season that he can make plays. Both Allen and Hill outplayed him last night. This is starting to sound more like a cost cutting measure then actually playing the better guy which is bs.
Yeah not quite sure how to make of this move. Allen has been probably are number 2 or 3 defender this preseason.
This makes no sense to me Allen has been one of the better players on the defensive side of the ball this pre-season and he is one of the few in the secondary that can catch the ball.
Definitely a surprise move to me and a disappointing one. Jason Allen has been one of our better players this pre-season and came on last year with three interceptions in nine starts. I thought this pre-season he looked good and the diving batten down pass is stuck in my head every time I watch him. Jason Allen has good cover abilities but like Crocker, does have some plays that go bad. I don't know what abilities Crocker has in the run-stopping so that may be the reason he has gone up. I watched Jason Allen last year take some bad angles on Running Backs, end up missing the ball carrier and giving up a touchdown (i.e. @ New England). In this simplistic defense, I think Jason Allen will make plays and frankly, I still think he will do that. I don't see this move lasting a long time. I could be wrong though. Moving on to the complete depth chart, it looks like Ernest Wilford may have the number three job. If I am looking at it correctly, it goes Ted Ginn, Derek Hagan, Ernest Wilford, Greg Camarillo, Anthony Armstrong and Davone Bess. Either I sorted them incorrectly or something is going on. Wilford has been non-existent and Davone Bess has looked good. Confusing to say the least. Everything else looks the same.
Im a bit surprised, i thought Allen playing the entire game saturday was a very good sign for him. I almost dont even recall seeing Crocker on the field. Ill admit though I havent really been looking for him either... Surprised though. After the nice finish to last season allen seemed to have, and all the time he's getting this year, i thought he would be in the starting lineup for sure.
Couldn't this move simply reflect who is starting this weeks preseason game. Maybe they want a more in depth look at crocker. I could be wrong. Besides, these depth charts seem to change a lot. I wouldn't read to much into it until the Jets game.
Possibly... I mean, the media sees that player A is first on the depth chart they instantly say that he's the starter for the season when they know no more than we do..
Could be a psychological ploy like last year, when they chose to flirted with starting Jesse Chatman over Ronnie Brown. If Allen isn't traded or released, I see him having a significant role on this defense.
Just saw this: http://miamiherald.typepad.com/dolphins_in_depth/2008/08/observations-fr.html Does indeed look like more of a 'lighting fire in the backside region' type of thing.
Well Higgi just confirmed that all this allen to be gone talk was just that. If we had a secondary like the Raiders, JAllen would be gone. But we don't, he's right there with the rest of them in my opinion. His versatility from Safety to corner actually puts him ahead in our group in my mind
