Lol, Knicks just warming up. Wait til next year....max cap slot then KP max extension...gonna shoot that number in to stratosphere. If they’re smart they’ll deal THJr and Lee for picks and get a little cheaper

Congrats? On joining a 40 win team? Or on banking a fat 1 year deal?

Knicks and Mario Hezonjia looking at a mutual 1 year deal.

What is interesting to me about this free agency, usually free agents play the waiting game, to see what the big fish (Lebron) will do and they follow him to that team.

No one except maybe Demarcus Cousins is waiting this year. Still going to the Lakers would be big business for Lebron’s brand. But lebron and kawhi is not going to get it done in the west. So if he has any intentions on returning to the Finals, it wont be in LA.

Yeah, I am happy for Ariza. Good for him on getting someone to pay $15 mil/yr. That twice as much as what Houston was paying him. Ariza is a good dude, he plays hard every game, and was one of the main reasons Chris Paul came. Other than going 0-12 in game 7, I have nothing bad to say about him as a Rocket.

Chris Paul was offered 5 yrs/200 mil to last yr by Clippers.

With this deal + last year's salary, Chris Paul essentially took 5 yrs/183 mil to join Rockets.

That is a 17 mil paycut to come here. I love it...especially when ESPN and everyone else expected him to sign a 5 yr/200 mil contract yesterday.

    As for Capela....
Harden-Paul-Capela finished last year with a 70-10 record including playoffs. You don't know basketball if you think Clint is just a rim runner, lol.

What's the income tax hit of signing in LA vs Houston? I know we have nothing here, so that's no tax for half the games, whereas he'd get hit for half of California had he stayed with Clippers.

I mean it may be a cut, but it's not as big as $17M. And $183 million is still more than he can probably spend in his lifetime, so it isn't really like leaving much on the table.

Edit: A quick search makes it look like income tax in California might be 13%. If that's the case, that's $13M he'd not been able to take him from that $200M, meaning he took a $4M "paycut".

No matter how you spin it, chris paul is taking up 40% of the salary cap and cant stay healthy, the rockets lost on ariza who was huge for them, and theyre about to throw max on capela.

I forgot to add in the $3.5 mil trade kicker that he waived last yr. So, instead of a 17 mil paycut...it is a $20.5 mil paycut.

Im not even going to factor in that CP3 is the sole reason why PJ Tucker and Moute both took less money than offered by other teams to come here.

*OKC will likely buyout or waive&stretch Melo to save $91 mil in luxury tax. Chris Paul will be the sole reason why he becomes a Rocket, too.

Looked like a rim runner in the postseason games I saw. Set the pick run to the rim. Wash rinse repeat. Of course there was so much ball hogging it’s hard to say.

Problem with Paul is he just can’t stay healthy and Father Time is catching up.

Nevermind the fact that a 23 yr old Capela dominated both Rudy Gay (DPOY) and KAT in the playoffs, I will just throw this out there...

    Capela averages per game
    14 pts, 11 rebs, 2 blocks, 1 steal

    Al Horford averages per game
    13 pts, 7 rebs, 1 block, 1 steal

Al Horford will be 32 next season making $29 mil.
Capela will be 24 next season making $18-20 mil.

    Which is worse?

I think he’s more a benefactor of what’s around him than horford is.

But I don’t dispute the youth side of things as a major benefit. And the fact that there looks like more meat on the bone

I’d rather spend $20 mil on Capela than $40 mil on a breaking down Paul. In fact I figured the max for Capela would be in the $30 mil range so $20 for what he gives you i can see.

Horfords overall game though is very underappreciated. He’s the only defender the c’s have that can give embid problems.

Lebron is putting pressure on Magic johnson to trade his entire farm system on Kawhi Leonard.. and magic may just do it...

I agree with that. I was tight when Larry Brown insisted on trading him as a 19 yeaf old years ago. Brown was supposed to be a great teacher but he couldnt get a 19 year old to listen. Always liked Ariza. That and David Lee were the 2 best Knicks picks from the Isiah era

The thing is, I'm not sure LA's "farm" is the best offer out there. Boston can offer more, and I honestly believe Miami can offer a deal SA will like better, assuming they don't want Lonzo, which is what's being reported. I think the 76ers also might have a better package to offer. The non-LA teams are probably somewhat hesitant because he reportedly wants to go to LA, but everyone thought PG was a lock to go to LA this offseason and look how that turned out.

I’ve heard San Antonio prefers jayson Tatum back over anything else.

Don’t think I could do it.

Boston would be stupid to give up taytum for Kawhi. First you dont even know what kind of player Kawhi is at this point. May have lost a step not having played in so long. And second Taytum looks like the next big time all star.

If they win a championship, it'll be a great move. If they don't, it's going to suck paying a 36 and 37 year old $41M and $44M.

Yeah, I don't think they do that. It's tough because if you think Kawhi gets you a championship this year, you make the deal despite the fact that Tatum could be a star. But it's so hard to know when you haven't seen this team together. I bet they wait it out. If it doesn't work out, there will be moves to make going forward with all that talent.

They wont win one, you can take that to the bank.

Anyways woj just posted more details about PG’s contract.

After year two he can sign an extension with OKC. So essentially his contract with OKC can be worth up to 290 million for 7 years.

They might have this year without the Paul injury. And if KD or Klay decide they want their own team and leave, they certainly could.

23 teams have contacted Wayne Ellington’s agent expressing interests.. he is gonna get paid, and he deserves it. If there was an award for most improved bench player, he would be there.

Whiteside to the Blazers makes too much sense. Dame is unhappy and is friendly with Hassan. Portland is also a market that probably won't lure big name FAs, so why not take a shot on his upside for two seasons?

You had to think he was getting the max, though, right? I wouldn't think a team would outbid the Rockets, especially with the no state income tax.

I think this collapses the Kawhi trade market. You have to assume that Kawhi is now locked into playing in LA with LeBron. Earlier it was reported that LeBron would announce on Tuesday morning, but he may have made a power move to get Kawhi to LA this season.
