That's a different conversation. This isn't a favorite player discussion, it's being in his shadow and constant comparisons between the two players. That really wasn't the case in Miami despite some early talk about who's team it really was. Lakers/Kobe fans are unlike regular fans. They are incredibly irrational. They're like Heatles era Heat fans times 10. They believe Kobe Bryant is the best player in NBA history, and the most clutch (despite statistics proving otherwise), and have had to defend that argument against LeBron for years.

    Boogie to the Warriors. Wow.

That's insane. They will not have a starting 5 where every player is top 3 at their position.

He’s also coming off a serious injury. There were probably better offers, but he wanted to maximize his value this year to set himself up for a big offer from more than likely another team next summer.

I smell them letting klay walk after this season and signing boogie long term.

    If it gels.

He just signed for Greg Monroe money.

Lol Marc Cuban once said people will stop watching the NFL because the product is oversaturated.

No, THIS nonsense in the nba is oversaturated. This kind of nonsense was once blocked by Stern.

With that said, as a Heat fan this just improved our trade value on all our players. Goran and whiteside will now be valued better if teams want to stack up to try to compete against GSW

Boogie doesn’t seem like the type to chase the championship already so I wonder what golden state promised him.

I wonder if this makes Boston try and take action. Not that there’s any way for them to counter it.

Thank god he didn’t go to Boston. Those pricks would have been so annoying. I mean, GSW gonna win the title with or without Boogie.

Theres no promises other than he doesnt need to get back until april. He is a non-bird signee, the max they can offer him in 2019 is 6 million. It is a one year rental for the warriors and then he will seek a max offer from another team.

Until someone can counter Durant the warriors are gonna win championships.

I feel like kawhi is the only potential game changer for that

    1. Boogie is ring chasing. Your impression of him was wrong. A lot of us were wrong.

    2. Boston “take action”? About what? That Boogie prioritized a ring over short term money?

Taking a step back, it’s a confident move. He can rehab slowly without pressure. If he heals, he wins a ring and then gets a max deal moving forward. Of course, if he doesn’t return to form, he’s a bonehead. Cause New Orleans woulda given him a 2 year deal at close to the max.

Its boneheaded regardless. He couldve done a 1 + 1 and then signed an extension with your team next offseason. He is going to regret not signing that deal just like Nerlens Noel regrets turning down 4 year 72 million last year.

Things have gotten so pathetic that Rockets, Lakers, and Thunder fans (sworn enemies) have teamed up on Twitter. I never thought I would see this day, lol.

I am so digusted right now. We almost beat 4 all stars + crooked refs. How the hell are we supposed to beat 5?

He also loses his Bird Rights. Gotta start from scratch. Pelicans insiders say he was offered 2 years for $40 mil plus lots of incentives. He wanted his max deal so he took his hall and went home.

True story. Those refs were flat out horrible and you were missing a HOF PG up 3-2 with homecourt.

Warriors are the spoiled rich kid who hits the lottery at age 21.

Shut your b-mouth on AD leaving. He’s under contract for this year AND next. Because he earned the Supermax, we can offer him $84 million more than any other team.

Right. I know there are 2 years. That's why I said they're on the clock. It may take them that time to convince him to stay. They money will certainly be a draw, but we'll see.

Did the warriors, the team that broke the nba regular season record set by the greatest nba player of all time, who then added another HOF player, coming off 3 championships, just add arguably the best center in the damn game for the MLE? Exchanged JaVale mc****ingee for Demarcus cousins? Would it even be fun to root for a team that doesn’t have a challenge?

I’ll watch all heat games and follow rookies but I won’t tune in for the warriors fapfest on Espn at all. I wish I could’ve been a fly on the wall wherever Lebron was when he heard this news.

Really sucks for up and coming teams that are on the verge like the Celtics, sixers, and rockets. 4 years from now when the warriors dynasty is maybe dying down, these teams are gonna look a lot different.

I think the only thing that breaks that up is if KD or Klay decide they want to have their own team. That or some kind of internal issue.

This is probably premature but I'm wondering if the players having more and more power as individuals is actually going to be detrimental to the league and the league is going to have to make some major changes. An individualistic mindset where the players have total freedom to do what's best for them could conceivably end up with what's bad for the league and everyone else.

I'm not sure what the changes might be, it might be something that needs a culture change rather than new rules etc. but the idea of a truly competitive league is seeming more and more distant. It makes sense, in one way. What's best for the league? Competition. What's best for an individual player or team? A lack of competition - easy wins.

Of course, in the long run, a less entertaining league hurts the players too if revenue is lost, but honestly, I don't expect that to happen much. A lot of people just don't care.

Can you imagine being a fan of the Nets or Suns etc? They're fighting just to be relevant, but the idea of title contention? It's pretty much a complete impossibility.

And then there's all the talk about players picking where they want to live etc.

How much money do these guys make?

For what, 15-20 years of a career?

Get what you can while you can, I guess.... but they've been enabled to have their cake and eat it.

On the flipside, NBA owners trade guys who don't want to be traded, break up their families for more than half the year, and will cut you once they don't want to pay you anymore money. In every other industry, workers have far more autonomy with respect to their careers. Parity is a cover for wage suppression in professional sports. The MLB hasn't suffered significantly without a cap and with player autonomy.

And it's not necessarily all players or even the majority. It's the elite/star players where this becomes an issue.
Sure, there's risk here, but we're talking about players who can be/are central players for franchises - pieces of the puzzle that are often irreplaceable - just up and moving off to other teams, perhaps for various reasons, but more and more with an individualistic mindset.

Like I said, it might be something that can't be changed with rule changes, but I think this is looking a possible big issue.

The level of competition in the league is important, it benefits everyone, makes the league more interesting and attractive, but it means that fundamentally, the teams and their success matter more than individual success. It might seem an academic point, but is, in fact, vitally important.

The league has more teams than it does talent. I'd say about 24-26 teams with an expansion of the G-League would be the best scenario, but you're not going to get an NBA owner to give up their team.

  39. CaribPhin

So, Miami has two summer league guys who are going to make the roster; Derrick Jones, Jr., and Edrice. It would be nice if DJJ lived up to that 4-star grade coming out of high school.

Those two are both FA next year. I know my knicks are planning 2019 FA around KD being available. And theres a scenario we could be really intriguing imo...will possibly have a top 3 pick (12-38 without KP last year...hes likely out til at least the All star break)....trading Lee and Hardaway + stretching Noah gives close to 2 max slots. You could be looking at a core of KP, Ntilikina, Knox + a top 3 guy like RJ Barrett or Zion Williamson + 65-70M in cap.

Add in any combo Kyrie, KD, Kawhi, Butler, Klay, etc and youve got a team that could join the party in the east real soon.
