Phillips on IG says he's glad to be out of here, and that he requested his release. Not buying it though.

He's a guy who doesn't give 100% regularly, he flashes once every few weeks, then fades away again, threw a fit on the sidelines apparently on Sunday. Godchaux and Taylor are both already better than him. So if he did ask for his release, it's like more indicative of him seeing the writing is on the wall for him as his days were numbered likely anyways.

Cutting a player you don't want in order to bring in OL?

    Shame no trade possible...

Even if the cut is the right move in the long run, this might not have been the best week to do it. Everyone on that team will be feeling frustrated. Phillips expressing it would be understandable, and cutting him for it won't look good. Better to let everyone calm down and wait for another week to make the cut - unless they desperately needed the roster space, but with players going on IR, I don't think that's the case.

Why not get something for him? Couldn't get a 5th or 6th? C'mon. That's Gase and his "not MY fault" way of coaching/handling personalities folks. Oh, thanks for sticking your nose in the draft process tbum.

It just hit me. We terminated his contract(in his contract year) so let's say wherever he lands he turns it around lightbulb comes on blah blah blah and he receives a big FA contract next offseason. Someone correct me if i'm wrong but we get nothing in return right?

I know right? His play has been awful and sometimes we need to make cuts, like we did with the OL a couple years back.

All of you guys bashing the team for not trading him have clearly NEVER worked in sales.

"Hey, you guys interested in trading for Jordan Phi......hello? Damn man, why don't these teams want to give us draft picks for our unmotivated, diva backups?"

LOL, what was that movie where they traded $5 and a Coke machine for a player (thinking it was Will Ferrell )? That's sort of what this conversation reminds me of. Why didn't we trade for dolphin food to feed the mascot? LOL

In 1983, Keith Comstock was traded for a bag of baseballs. He then had to deliver said baseballs to the other team himself.

Maybe we could have gotten some new footballs for Philips.

No. He played least of all 8 active DL players on Sunday. That's why he's bent out of shape. His snaps have been falling off, matching his performance, and those around him. There's an article right in this thread about it:

    http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/...e-dolphins-snaps-patriots-20181002-story.html

    2. Defensive tackle snaps:

Davon Godchaux 57 snaps (70 percent)
Akeem Spence 55 snaps (68 percent)
Vince Taylor 27 snaps (33 percent)
Jordan Phillips 25 snaps (31 percent).

Throw in the DE's too, and you'll see, Phillips had the least snaps of all active DL

Cameron Wake 46 snaps (57 percent)
Robert Quinn 45 snaps (56 percent)
Jonathan Woodard 37 snaps (46 percent)
Charles Harris 34 snaps (42 percent).

If one has to guess, this is a player, who this team has constantly pushed to perform because he seemingly never gives 100%, a player in a contract year, who's pissy because his playtime is being cut because the two rookies drafted, and the free agent add are getting more play time than him, because they've... earned it. Seems to me with what Phillips is doing/saying on social media, hes trying really hard to say he requested this release... He wants out, because he's not going to get enough playing time to earn that contract he's dreaming about, but he's likely not going to get that on the market anyways.

You guys want to cry and complain that this is an issue around the coach, not handling a personality? It's pretty obvious this isn't a first string caliber guy here. He's obviously not doing what they've asked, they're playing guys over him, he's upset and disrupting the team, so.. hit the road. May miss his inside pressure a bit,but he rarely brought that on the regular, and hasn't exactly been stout against the run. We can likely fill his spot in the rotation pretty easily.

What do you really think teams are going to give up for a rotational DT with motivation and performance issues? A 7th? Conditional 6th? Who cares, really? It sure doesn't appear to be a move made over a sideline blow up, although I'm sure that has something to do with it, it's pretty evident he's just not all that valued based on his contributions, and how we use him, and the realization for Phillips he's not going to see all the cash that only he believes he's worth.

Well, I appreciate that Gase wants to sink or swim with HIS type of players. I figured in a a contract year that Phillips would be motivated to earn a big payday. The fact he couldn't be bothered to even try speaks volumes.

What upsets me is that Gase and the coaching staff weren’t able to get more out of a player who was drafted in the 2nd round. I just don’t understand Gase keeping him on the final 53 man roster this year if he wasn’t good enough to earn substantial playing time.

It also looks like Harris and McMillian are two high draft picks which are not playing effectively. Whether it is bad coaching or these players just aren’t good NFL players, it appears the Front office
continues to fail on draft day.

You just can’t constantly miss with your early draft picks and expect to build a consistent winner in the NFL. I never liked the hiring of Tannebaum and I blame Ross for his inability to hire a competent football man to run this organization.

Ross either needs to clean house in the front office ASAP or he should sell the team to an owner who will hopefully have a clue how to build a winning organization. Because it is obvious by his front office hirings, Ross certainly doesn’t have a clue what he is doing as an NFL owner.

I though phillips and taylor were playing best among the DTs. We were stacked at DL coming into the season and we are now thin due to injuries and this release. I dont like the move, we needed phillips on for the depth and pressure he provides up the middle. Best pass rushing DT on the team imho. This is a similar situation to ajayi and landry, gase can't stand anyone complaining or questioning his authority.

I seriously question if he cares about the franchise winning anything. Sure he’s made investments in the stadium and team but that’s from a business standpoint. He wants to improve the value of his investment and could probably care less about a Super Bowl. He would be happy with a competitive non winning Super Bowl. he’s not a football guy or gal. Just my opinion

I am guessing it was Kocurek he had an argument with. Since Gase defers to him on the Dline it was essentially Kocurek who gave up on Phillips and probably said he couldn't work with the guy anymore. Phillips will certainly get another shot. He will probably make the best of the situation because if he doesn't he will soon be without a great job. As for us, I am sad. I hate it when we screw up a draft pick, and a 2nd rounder no less. As far as I am concerned Tannenbaum should not be allowed to make any more draft picks. He puts too much emphasis on physical traits and not enough on the mental. I think we went away from him this last draft, and I hope it stays that way.

Exactly. We have several high picks...Harris, Tankersely, and McMillan that all might be cut or released. Now, none of them seem to be troublemakers like JP, but they still aren't good.

Did it? Our running game isn't better since Ajayi left. We don't have a "bell cow" that can go get yards. Philly seems to have the ability to coach up Ajayi, for whatever issue he was having here.

The problem with Landry really wasn't Landry. It was QBs who focused incessantly on him. Every WR wants the ball. Its the QBs and OCs job to create an offense where the ball is dispersed.

Not the same, Harris & Tank have only been here just over a year & McMillan has played 4 regular season games - Phillips has played a lot more meaningful games than those 3 put together. I am not saying that these 3 are all pros but more playing time is needed before throwing them under the bus

In situations like Ajayi and now Phillips some people will say it’s on the coach, others will say it’s on the player. However, if it happens again then everyone will say it’s on the player. Most players realize that they have to make the most out of their 2nd chance because otherwise they won’t get that big payday. Players who don’t establish some kind of value for themselves bounce around the league and eventually out all together. IMO, Phillips was upset about playing time because if you don’t play, you don’t get a bigger contract. The problem is he is blaming others for his lack of playing time when he should be looking at himself and his lack of production. I mean, it’s not like we don’t want the most productive guys on the field. We want to play him, but he has to help the team.
