TLDR: "Throwing is the hardest thing we ask the shoulder to do. Being that Tannehill has not thrown yet, he is still weeks away.

The hope is Tannehill can be ready before December, but it won’t be this week or next week."

Even if his name was Aaron Rodgers I'd be drafting a QB early on to push him or in case he continues to be injury prone.

Since his name is NOT Aaron Rodgers I cant see how you make a case to NOT go after a QB early in the draft or in free agency.

I'd rather have the Drew Brees/Phillip Rivers problem than the Ryan Tannehill/Jay Cutler/Brock Osweiler problem.

Problem is there is no clear superstar coming out in this draft. Last year was the one where there were a few unless something changes I don’t see us getting a top 2 QB in the draft

"Tannehill said it is “the goal” to play against the Colts in Week 12 after the Dolphins’ bye. However, an analysis of his comments indicates that is highly unlikely.

I applaud Tannehill's candor in answering questions Wednesday, even getting into specifics. Perhaps that does or doesn't have to do with the fact that the Dolphins and their head coach were fined on that day for violating the injury reporting policy when it came to Tannehill.

The news seems even worse than I thought, and he does not appear close.

Here is why Tannehill will not play until December, at the earliest:

First, Tannehill's words tell us there is a tear of his shoulder capsule. We have suspected capsule injury from the start but did not know the extent or location.

"We’re … trying to get it to heal up because every time the arm goes through that motion, it stresses that capsule,” he said. “That's the goal right now is just to let the thing tighten back down, heal up and then get back to throwing during the bye."

The words "heal" and "tighten back down" mean there was at least a partial tear.

And by video study combined with his report of pain overhead, the location is the anterior capsule.

"As far as the capsule, there's not a whole lot you can do,” Tannehill said. “That just has to have time to heal up."

Tannehill is correct, and that typically takes a minimum of six weeks before one can stress the capsule. Healing is often slow, as the capsule is bathed in synovial fluid, which is the same reason rotator cuff tears tend to not heal on their own.

Next, Tannehill doesn't want to call being shut down again a setback, but it clearly is at least lack of progress. He rested, went to throw again and it just wasn't close.

"So I shut it back down and we'll see next week where we're at," he said.

Finally, he admits that the cannot make the throws yet.

When asked about if it was the velocity or the pain he said, "It's just being able to make the throw.”

Once a quarterback can make the throws, it is still typically weeks before he is ready to play. The pattern is not start throwing during the bye and play the following week against the Colts.

Tannehill is not willing to concede that he might not play again this season, but by the time he is ready, the Dolphins might not have meaningful games remaining.

The hope is he follows some good advice and takes care of himself.

The last time he tried to will his way through an injury it didn't work out so well. By video, he appeared to tear his ACL and MCL in 2016. He decided to forego surgery, and in the first padded practice of 2017, his knee gave out on a roll out run, and he missed the season.

Tannehill is a smart guy, who at one point wanted to attend medical school and has endorsed a stem cell company that performs procedures outside of the United States.

He was asked Wednesday if it hurt every time he threw.

"Oh, yeah. I think it's going to be playing through pain the rest of the year."

This is not the comments of a QB who is close to starting in the NFL.

At this point, a good outcome for the Dolphins is to have Tannehill back in December.

Medically, Tannehill should not return to throwing until doing so does not cause pain.

If he is in pain, that indicates the capsule is not healed. Thus, if he truly believes he will be in pain all season, there must be question whether he will return at all in 2018."

Well ****, I figured that's where this was headed and it stinks to have that confirmed. Maybe the question shouldn't be "will he throw in 2018".....the real issue is that he could be done with his career after basically missing three straight years. I'm a patient guy and all but darn, someone needs to take that horse out to pasture and show him some mercy.

Not to stoke the fire, but we already had the best QB ever in Matt Moore. Just sayin'

Oh my gosh, can you imagine the story line?

Gase- "Hey Matt, whatcha doing these days?"

Moore- "Oh, I'm watching a live stream of Jay Cutler watching his deer cam."

Gase- "Yeah, uh...sorry about that whole Cutler thing and sort of screwing you over. We were worried about the concussions though...we wanted to keep you safe."

Moore- "Sort of? You flat out lied to me twice in 24 hours."

Gase- "Anyways, the reason for the call is because we need someone that can throw the ball to Stills and Grant past 5 yards. We were spitballin' different names and you came up, would that be something you're interested in?"

    Moore- "Ummmm....."

Gase- "The thing is, we have this real good lookin' rookie named Luke Falk...he's not ready quite yet. Tannehill needs some time as well with that shoulder injury nobody seems to understand....it's the darndest thing how it keeps hurtin and not hurtin. Or maybe he has the clap, we're not sure yet. You'll definitely want to wash your hands in the QB room...."

Moore- "So why not call Jay Cutler...again?"

Gase- "Well, he does have that whole deer cam thing going on, but the truth is we always felt like you were a better leader for this offense. We'd like to have you back if you're feeling okay and all, that is. Your brain's not hurtin' these days, is it?"

Moore- "I'm retired. My days of football are over."

Gase- "Really? Well that means we can make you a one-time offer of $10M a year to start in Miami. That's what we do with all the retirees that washed out of the NFL. Err, sorry, no offense."

Moore- "And I'll actually get to start?"

Gase- "Well, that Luke Falk is really looking good in scrimmage and we think Tannehill will be back soon. If you can beat out Osweiller then maybe the job is yours....at least for this week. I can't make any promises though..."

Moore- "So you'll pay me $10M to once again ride the bench and train a rookie while the QB room self-destructs..."

Gase- "Well, when you put it that way, maybe we better call Brett Favre. He might be a better fit for what we're looking for at this time. Thanks anyway Matt!"

Time to move on from Ryan. Tough break for him with injuries but you cant pay big money for a middle tier QB who also is injured all the time.

Why does everyone act like JEST would just trade Teddy Bridgewater to is no problem? I highly doubt they trade in division for less than a first round pick.

I know that, but people are stating that we should have traded for him before the season. That was not happening. Can it happen not that he is with the Saints, possible, but Bress is no spring chicken.

Just no to Teddy Bridgewater. Guy had one decent year and injuries already. He’s not starter material anymore for a team that wants to contend.

There was some interest in bringing Teddy in as a back-up before he signed with the Jets and given his So Fla connections the interest was mutual. However, he signed with the Jets as there was a higher likelihood of him seeing some game action which made sense for him.

Ironically, the way things played out it would have been mutually beneficial had Teddy come home.

I mean neither is any other QB on our roster right now. Considering this may be a weak QB draft class (both in top talent and depth) and the fact that we have been able to beat up on even more grossly inferior teams, we will probably end up picking in the mid teens and not in great position for an immediate starter. With all that in mind, maybe roll the dice on Teddy and see what happens. Or, you can bring back Tannehill again and watch as those season tickets get sold out from the excitement.

I was making the comment because there a lot of people insinuating that Gase failed by not getting Bridgewater to compete with Tannehill this season. I know that Bridgewater is a Saint and I personally feel he provides us nothing more than Tannehill does and want a real replacement plan.

2019 isn't a great year to be QB shopping so whether you stay with Tannehill, sign Bridgewater or for that matter Bradford its a stop gap measure until you can acquire a long term solution.

A lot of people here are under the impression that RT is done for the season. Meanwhile, the team is hoping he will be ready for Indy in two weeks. Why is perception different from what the Fins are reporting?

Also, the quote I read today is that he threw short passes Sunday for a period of time and had zero pain. That's a lot different than a little pain or some pain. I agree that they shouldn't put him out there if he's still hurting, but Gase laid it out that they have a fairly strict plan for the next two weeks to slowly progress him back to being 100%.

Didn't say it was infallible, just that it explains why fans have that perception. The Dolphins own reports/comments haven't been infallible either.

Nothing conspiratorial here. A reliable medical source said there was a good chance Ryan would be out for the season, so some fans are thinking along those lines.

Right. I'm just saying, guys diagnosing injuries based on only viewing video shouldn't be used as evidence of anything. Not sure why Miami would be acting like Tannehill is coming back if the doctors were telling them he was done for the year. It wouldn't make sense for them to do that.

Hypothetically: so that fans don't revolt while watching Assweiler **** the bed again. Then just before the Indy game or some other time he has "a setback" and that's that. It's a carrot to dangle in front of us.

Selling hope is important, so the team will always give us the sunny day forecast. Tanny getting healthy enough to play again is one part of this situation, but even if he does return can he take some hits and not get hurt again? I'm getting flashbacks of Chad Pennington getting hurt on the first play of a game.

I don't think it's that type of injury. I don't think getting hit will reinjure it. I think the only way it gets reinjure is if it's yanked again while he's throwing which occurs very rarely
