Hi friends. I don't post much anymore. But the evil eyes of Mor are always lurking. Sunday's loss was one of those that seemed to piss everyone off. I've got friends and family members texting me in outrage that <FILL IN PLAYER OR GASE HERE> threw the game and it's all over.

I should be mad... But I'm not.

For years I subscribed to the old NFL idea that everyone has a chance.. or everyone is 0-0 and the beginning of the season. I'd go into game one pumped and ready our guys to finally return to the elite status I remember from the 80's and 90's. Then after 5-6 games reality sets in and you realize... It's not going to happen. Then you get mad. The season ends. The Patriots either went to the Super Bowl or won it. Repeat.

I should be mad.... But I'm not.

This year I argued with several friends and family members about the state of our beloved Dolphins. I took a look at the schedule and thought 8-8 if we're lucky. Others thought playoffs for sure... Well since Tannehill is back right? Tanny get's hurt. This guy get's hurt, that guy is hurt, everyone is hurt. The excuses start the flow... Even worse, the blame starts to flow. They are below .500, the horror.

I should be mad... But I'm not.

The TLDR reason for this random post I guess is a simple suggestion. Set low expectations. Don't shoot for the stars... Shoot for the stop sign down the street. Drink some whiskey. Enjoy the comedy that is professional football. Don't be mad folks. It's just not worth it.

I spent 32 years of my life caring what the Dolphins do.
I am done. Now I am just going to enjoy the ride. Be sad when they lose, be happy when they win.
Don't care if the fire Gase.
Don't care if they cut Tannehill.
    Waste of my thought process

I don't even get sad when they lose, honestly, and I don't get all that jazzed when they win. It's a game that I have no involvement in whether they win or lose. I watch the game and an hopefully entertained...so blowout losses are just boring, nothing else.

Honestly the thing that makes me most mad is how we as fans cant seem to respect differing opinions. Whether we win or lose none of our opinions matter really.

As far as on the field Ill never be mad at a team that is trying.

THIS EXACTLY! I used to live and die with a Miami Loss or win. Now I keep up with them. Talk them up all off season to who ever will listen and get excited as usual when the season starts. I enjoy the wins and if they lose I just go on about my life, a little sad that this season is as it is but oh well. I will continue to watch when they are on TV ( I live in Tennessee so don't get them often), I usually try and keep up with the game on the little NFL.com game cast but only if I don't have anything else to do.

This is kind of the approach I have begun to take over the years with my favorite sports teams. When they win it's an enjoyment for my personal life and when they lose...well...ok....it's all good, better luck next time. I'm done being in a bad mood when my teams lose, glad those days are over. Life is a crisis for most of us mixed with a little sprinkle of enjoyment here and there. Miami Dolphins, 76ers, Phillies, or Pittsburgh Penguins in contention or winning is always nice, but not the end of my world when they aren't winning either. Can't be mad about it, I just show my support no matter the circumstances. There's a reason i'm supposed to follow these teams and there is history behind why I do and that will never change.

There’s no reason to get upset any more. They do this pretty much every year. We are in 5-8 win purgatory with no signs of that changing. It is what it is.

First off, great to see you post! You were before my time here but I've read a lot of your stuff in the off-topic area (AKA "an 18 year old likes me", etc.). I'm guessing you're Dave Chappelle in disguise. You were freaking hysterical!

To your post, I look at it a different way- I'm a football fan on Sunday. If the Dolphins win or really show out, it's a great day. If they stink up the field....well, there's always next Sunday. Of course I want the Super Bowl, but my only real focus is getting that next win and seeing a great game. Indy did beat us....that stunk....but we hung with them on the same level for most of the game. And hey, we were supposed to get blown out so yeah, I'm okay with that on Wednesday. We get to do it all over again in 4 days.

When I was a kid I would literally get numb when they would lose. And cry. My ENTIRE week would be ruined.

After the Indy debacle, I turned off the broadcast, watched a comedy show with my wife and moved on to the next chore. It just doesn't impact my life like it used to.

^Exactly! I remember back in 92, I was about 10 years old...I think it was 92...Maybe 93? We got all the way to the Championship game at home...against the Bills and they curb stomped us in our own building! I was absolutely mortified and my mother actually had to yell at me and tell me to go and take a walk and calm down (which I ended up doing). It's funny because I went on that walk and on that walk I pass an older guy wearing a Dolphins hat (odd for Pennsylvania), but there he was. We exchanged hello's and he said to me "Don't worry, we got at least five more years with Marino." I remember thinking "five more years? **** man...That's an eternity, we got this."

I threw countless fits over this team losing all the way up until I was about 19 years old and for the last 17 or so years those fits have decreased down to nothing.

I'm not numb to losing anymore, just more of a guy running through his late 30's on a treadmill at this point (in regards to this team). I've become that older guy I passed on the street with the Dolphins hat.

My point of all this is that my favorite sports team being bad or worse...mediocre, is probably the least of my problems or concerns. I'm definitely passionate about Miami Dolphin football and I will always stay tuned with this team. Furthermore....I absolutely hate losing....but it's become much more tolerable as I've gotten older. I enjoy this team regardless, and currently my favorite Dolphins are Minkah Fitzpatrick, Kenyan Drake, Reshad Jones, and the ageless Cameron Wake.

I still closely follow the Dolphins, but I've become a general NFL fan b/c I love the strategy of the sport, enjoy watching good football, and that's often not the case down here in Miami Gardens.

So as far as the national interest is concerned, I can't imagine any outsider really gives a flip about the Dolphins.

I became a fan of the Dolphins when I was 6 years old. 1980....

As a kid, and like most kids, I was erratic, hot tempered, and thought trivial things were the end of the world. The Dolphins losing was one of those things. I'm turning 45 on January 1st. I have 5 great kids, a wonderful wife, good friends, and more things on my plate than I can handle. I still am passionate about the Dolphins, but like Carmen, I've become a football fan in general. Yes, I still cuss a little when the Dolphins lose, but come Monday morning I'm over it.

That's the one thing that's bothered me probably more than actually losing- the folks in their 20's, 30's, 40's and 50's (and beyond) that act like the world has ended because we lost a football game. Eventually everyone should reach a maturity level where they don't have to hate everyone that disagrees with them, or throw endless temper tantrums when they don't immediately get what they want. That's the stuff 10 years olds live their life by- grown adults shouldn't act that way (at least in public).

I always find that having a few fantasy teams helps, especially when my players are playing against the Dolphins. It's like "WHA-AAAAT? THEY LET EBRON SCORE TWO TOUCHDOWNS..!!! :censored::censored::censored: .......Yay, he's in a couple of my line-ups ..."

    And relax.

Though I understand where you guys are coming from and why, I won't allow myself to become that way.

At some point in the last five years or so, I've lost college football to those thoughts. I now don't become emotional about it at all. But the NFL and the Fins are my first love.

I dunno, man. As I've gotten older, just sports have lost importance compared to other things in life. I don't have time to be angry or frustrated over things that I have no control over. If I can't enjoy something that is purely for entertainment, then why would I watch it? Lol

We're all different of course, but other than my wife and kids, the Fins/sports are the only thing in life that I really have any passion or emotion for whatsoever. I feel like if I lose that, then I'm losing the big battle overall.

The passion is still there, but the anger over losing isn't nearly what it used to be. Of course I want the Dolphins to win and of course I hate when they lose, I just don't let it affect any other part of my life. Once the game clock hits 0:00 I really don't get emotional anymore...win or lose. I do like to watch game tape, of course come here and debate, but to me I just really enjoy football. I make sure to watch KC, Rams, Pats (hope they lose every game...lol), and other teams that I find entertaining.

For me, I have to suppress my emotions outwardly, because my wife gets upset with me. Its always "Oh, the Dolphins lost again? Well, I know that the rest of our day is going to be **** now...." And since I love her and don't want to do that, I try my best to pretend to have no emotion, but its still there on the inside.

And if the Fins aren't winning, I really have a hard time taking any joy in other football at all.

Like most of everyone im the same way, i used to wake up cook breakfast for my kids throw on whatever jersey my 2 yr old would pick out, throw him in his dolphins shirt and wait for the game to begin.
This has now become a in other words a miscellaneous household, my wife loves the broncos has cuz she loved Tebow (dont ask) my now 4 yr old son now loves the jags (likes the logo) my 1.5 yr old just always points at the tv and yells "ballll" as he sits down with a bowl of fruit loops (dry) next to me to watch. I no longer put on a jersey for the sheer thought of some of you it was getting to the point where every Sunday was a bad day. now i just take it with a grain of salt and move on. I have lost my passion for the phins not particularly for the teams success, just lost my dad 2 years ago and Sunday was Miami day, it was our ritual during football we had watched countless games together never missing a Sunday. Now its just a hey if we win we win but the losses don't bother me as bad as they used to.

Growing up in southern California dolphin fans are sparse, however go to a rams or chargers game and we are in abundance i guess maybe we just hibernate outside the stadium. I grew up on countless Laker championships 1 angel championship and a dodgers championship. just seems being a laker fan championships were expected an id felt that all "my teams" should have that mentality and its just not a reality unless you live in Boston and love all Boston teams for the past 20 years. What gets me boiling though is i don't get how so many people can see the right and wrong of this team, and yet front office keeps making the same mistakes, i would like for one year Miami to compete, to be a Pittsburgh type team who is battling for a first round bye!!!

A lot of good advice in this thread. I too, have made the transition from a fan who let the Miami Dolphin on goings impact my state of mind. I'm not sure if it's an age / maturity thing, or if it's more being beaten down by the years of mediocrity, but I've learned that it's a fools errand to let something you have no control over impact your emotional well being. It's great when they win, but will have a serious negative impact on your life and relationships when things don't go well.

It isn't to say everyone needs to stop enjoying professional sports, just that it's much more enjoyable if you take it for it's intrinsic entertainment value, realize you have no control over it, and place priority on the more important things in your life. The things you can control; e.g., family, friends, career, etc. In doing so, you can still enjoy the wins but greatly limit the downside impact of losses.

Some day though it would be great to see them return and become a legit contender and we could all go crazy like the days of old.

I just got back into the country after spending the last six weeks traveling through Australia and New Zealand with my wife. This is the first time in nearly 50 years that we have traveled during football season, unless we were traveling to a Dolphin away game. When we booked this trip last year, I thought I would miss watching the Dolphin games but I really didn’t miss watching at all.

I have come to realize that while I will always root for the Dolphins, the fact they have been nothing more than mediocre for the past 20 years has gotten me to the point that I just don’t care that much anymore. Hopefully Ross will eventually get it right and hire individuals who know what they are doing when it comes to building an NFL team. Unfortunately I just don’t have much faith in Ross as an NFL owner. So my expectations for this organization going forward is continued mediocrity but hopefully they will surprise me in the future before I become worm food.

For those of you who are too young to have been around during the Dolphin glory years, I hope you will eventually get to experience the thrill of the Dolphins winning a Super Bowl. There is nothing to compare to seeing the team you root for winning it all. It may not happen again in my lifetime but at least I had the pleasure of being in the stadium during the undefeated season and watching the Dolphins win back to back Super Bowls.

This will be my last post on this forum but I will check in from time to time to read the views of the present day fans. Good luck to all of you who have had to suffer through the last two decades with this organization. I will continue to root for you to have a better team in the future. I have enjoyed my time on this forum, but I realized on my travels that it just isn’t worth posting negative comments about the team anymore and unfortunately I just don’t see a lot of positives right now with the Dolphins.

Take care Dolphin fans and I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a wonderful New Year.

That's the only part I don't get- if you've "suffered" because we had a 6-10 to 10-6 season, then you're not watching the games right, LOL. That's he freaking beauty of football- it's awesome when we win and it stinks when we lose. But it's a brand new game every week where the team can show redemption.

I mean, people said for years, "If only we could get to the playoffs." Then we did under Matt Moore....and nobody since then has said, "We were a playoff team in 2016....WOOHOO!" It was like as soon as we met that standard, we needed a bigger standard or the team was a failure. The heck with all that- just enjoy the next game and forget about all that other stuff that honestly doesn't matter. Remember, 31 teams fail to win the Super Bowl each year.....and the runner up is ALWAYS more disappointed with their team than we are. The only difference is their fan-base assumes that they're a lock to win it the next season....and then they're disappointed more than we are yet again.

Age will teach you that every day is precious- enjoy it and make the most of it. Go to the beach. Have sex. Take a vacation. And if you're too pissed off because we're not Super Bowl champs, you're probably not doing the sex part right. Relax a little , enjoy life, and the perspective will eventually come to you that there's no sense in being mad over a loss for more than a few hours.

When the Phins would lose, it would literally ruin the week for me, if the won it would make it. It made no sense to my wife, I'm highly educated, doing well in my career, no financial worries and I would get abs devastated by a team that I don't even play for. I am a "little" immature to begin with so that probably factored into it. Having said that, my wife gave birth to a healthy baby girl and I can honestly say that it ruins my day when they lose but come Monday morning its off my mind. I don't know if its the kid, maybe im growing up or as my friend informed me maybe its a low t4 but I'm not going to let it rule my life. In retrospect its pretty pathetic that it has over these years. I remember a few years ago when Hard Knocks was on and we traded Vontae Davis how pissed I was. I spoke to a friend of mine who is a shrink and she had the opinion that its probably misplaced anger. Something else in my life was probably bothering me sub concisely and would freak out about the trade instead. I wonder if that is a big part of it for a lot of us?
