No one picked up my sarcasm. I was just doing my classic Dolphins fan impression. "Tannehill sucks but let's trade him for a 1st round pick!" "Devante Parker is useless but I bet we can get a 1st and a 3rd for him!"
I think getting draft compensation for him makes the dead money a lot more palatable. I kinda look at it as akin to paying for a draft pick as opposed to paying a guy not to play. But yeah, dead money really sucks.
For those of us like myself that think tannehill has all the tools to be good. This kid does everything tannehill does. But better. (Ya ya against college players) gotta start somewhere tho. And he is a real quarterback. He isn’t perfect. But the kid aint afraid to go deep. He should be available to us. We will see how he finishes the season. Also i read mahomes and goff never beat ranked opponents in college.
I don't watch college ball, but my first impression is I don't really like the guy. He's got tons of time to throw and still makes some questionable throws. Biggest issue with that highlight reel for me is he has tons of time to throw. How does he do under pressure? We need someone who has a natural feel for the pocket, good football IQ and decent accuracy, even if he's not physically awesome.. as opposed to someone who has great physical tools but a questionable football mind. Well.. like I said I'm only going by that one video, but I don't like what I see there.
13 DREW LOCK Quarterback, Missouri Well, it might be time for the Miami Dolphins to move on from oft-injured and underperforming quarterback Ryan Tannehill. Missouri quarterback Drew Lock has his merits here. He’s one of those prospective quarterbacks all over big boards. NFL Draft Scout has him ranked the No. 1 signal-caller, while he misses out on Mel Kiper’s top-25 big board altogether, coming in behind quarterbacks Justin Herbert and Dwayne Haskins. Either way, the Dolphins do have other needs, especially in the pass-rush department. But making a change under center is something they can’t sleep on, particularly in a deep defensive class. Lock it in for Lock. Fansided has us picking him at 13! I couldnt help but post it.
Obviously. Every QB gets credit for long runs that started with a pass... isn't this common knowledge?
No. There was talk before the college season but he hasn't shown anything to make anyone think he is a 1st round let alone top 10 QB. Unless your scouting department can find a guy that can be developed this is not the year for a QB. And I don't trust our scouting department.
With the miracle win over the Pats, even an 0-3 collapse to end the season won't be enough to convince Ross to clean house. Gase/Tanny, as expected, will get 2019 to put it all together. Gase will want to use all the resources possible to build the best team he can for 2019, which is understandable. A couple good guards and the offense is mostly set. The defense needs a LOT of work though. A DT, two DEs, a LB, and another good CB. Also, very important, a veteran DC. Even with those needs, I'd love to see Ross tell them to trade away the Phin's first rounder for a first rounder in 2020 (and a second or third rounder in 2019 of course). If the worst comes to pass, the next GM/Coach will have the ammo needed in 2020 to move up and grab a QB. Actually, Ross could even keep Gase and let him pick a new QB in 2020 if Tanny goes down again for a significant amount of time in 2019 but Ross still likes what Gase is doing as coach.
Every time we write off RT, he comes back from the dead. It's like clockwork. The 2020 draft is gonna have far better QB prospect than next year. If RT continues to look strong, I could see postponing drafting a QB, investing draft capital on really solidifying the interior o-line, and giving RT, yet another year. That way, if RT fizzles out, we can put a young QB in a great spot to succeed much like Dak Prescott. And if RT balls out in 2019, I would consider that a high quality dilemma to have. This is all contingent on RT playing at the same level that he has played in the last few weeks.
I still think it would be wise to draft a QB early rounds like Ive been saying. At the very least someone who can develop while Tannehill plays and take over if Ryan is injured again. I know he's tough but the injuries and hits seem to be piling up. Instead of guys who couldn't cut it as starters I think its time to build our own depth at the position. I wouldnt mind trading back in the first to acquire more picks to do it either.
Missouri had a scandal two years ago. The team isnt that good. Lock is. We will see. I would like to have him and tannehill for next year. And draft pure defense after that.
The really long ones are just short passes that his receivers turn into long ones so they don't count.
If Ryan plays well and we make the playoffs, no reason to move on immediately. You draft a guy and let him sit behind him.
QB play is not this team's problem. Their defence is extraordinarily bad. The D has squandered good offensive performances in the Texans, Lions and Colts games. And they failed against the Pats yesterday as well. Both Brock and Tanney have been more than serviceable QBs with a weakened O-Line. Their receiver and RB talent is also amongst the league's best.
It's the 2020 dead cap space that's the issue I think. If we cut him this year we face significantly more dead space than if we cut him one year later. However, thinking on this might change now word is out that the cap is increasing. Unwise management might give in to the urge for spending sprees or wasteful moves....
How do you cut #6 in passer rating though? Unless there's a major meltdown in these next three games that's NOT injury related, I don't see any scenario where he's not the starter in 2019.
If Tannehill plays well the last three games, he's not going to be cut. They will probably draft a guy or bring in a veteran as insurance, which is absolutely a great idea and I fully endorse it. That won't stop someone who made up their mind 4 years ago about the player from screaming bloody murder all off-season, though.
LOL, four years ago I was on the "We Want Moore" bandwagon and I think almost everyone here hated me for it. Just sayin' =)
Why would people hate on you? You just want whats best for the team. If people are hating on things i say. Tough do do. I just want whats best for the team. We all want to win the superbowl. Why would you hate on each other? For having different ideas? I appreciate everyone’s ideas. I don’t agree most of the time. But i appreciate the different opinions. Lifes too short to be a hater. If tannehill is going to be the man? Then more power to him. If not then we have to move on.
Let's just say that for a while we had some guys on here that were *******s and generally liked to argue just for the sake of arguing. There was a lot of name calling and personal attacks. It was a time of unrest and darkness in the galaxy... Some of them were banned and some just moved on.
Some people here REALLY, REALLY loved Tannehill as a prospect while a couple of us thought Moore deserved the start in RTs rookie year. We basically went out of our way to piss each other off....but the forum was a lot different back then. The mods have done a great job clearing out the worst of offenders and there's very little heated arguing here anymore. These days, I can even say that Matt Moore was the best QB ever without having to duck! =)
When you know the two flip TDs against Oakland and the Miami Miracle are the sole reason he doesn’t rank 15th?
