Unless you cost yourself a top 5 pick I think people grossly overrate draft position. Especially when its within a few slots.
If I had to choose between having the #1 overall pick or beating the Pats like that....I honestly think I'd pick the double pitch. We will be talking about that play 20 years from now- can anyone name who went #1 in the draft in 2015 (without Google)? I don't care what anyone says....that play made the year!
I will add it matters more if you're looking for a QB generally but I don't think we are in the first. Just a personal opinion. I just believe scouting = success, not draft position. Agreed though no reason to keep talking about it, its just personal thoughts
I agree that scouting equals success, but there have been many a team that are picking one slot after the many hall of famers or all pro players that were picked one slot before. If you’re a good evaluator then better position only increases the chances of you beating everyone in the game.
Top 4 are the statistically better ones, not the top 5. Then it’s 5 to 12 with the next drop off coming at 13, so the “top 10” is alos a myth. People just prefer nice round numbers than to do the actual math.
Not just scouting but: - scouting for the type of players that fit your scheme (not simply bpa). - developing (i.e. coaching up) the players you do draft. - knowing what your team needs are not just now but 2 or 3 seasons down the track.
You should go out to your car. open the driver side door, take out your junk and put it in the opening of said door, and SLAM IT SHUT. That would be a fluke play that costs you dick status. Congrats on one of the most irrelevant statements ever. Sorry if thats a personal attack but damn son, that was some stoopid ish.
I guess I dont see it as that big of a deal. If youre doing your homework correctly there should always be someone there than can help your team in some way and no one is a guarantee. Of course with more players available you have better chances I 100% agree with that. I guess my simple version is just Id rather pick 20th with a great scouting department than 13th with a bad one.
