Full Article Sports Illustrated published an interesting article regarding potential head coaching changes that could be on the horizon in the next couple weeks. Most notable, it is being speculated that this crop of head coaching candidates may be the worst its been in decades, and at the very least it may not be very good. Other teams are also supposedly watching our situation with great interest. Presumably, if Ross decides to replace Tannenbaum instead of allowing Gase and Grier to run the show, it could create more tension and movement. Several teams may be ready to swoop in and snag Gase or Grier should they be let go. Looks like this isn't the year to go fishing for a new head coach. There may not be anyone better than Gase currently available.
Terrible draft for QBs. Terrible market for coaches. Man, you gotta' love Miami's timing on things. ......the curse lives on.
Makes me more and more believe Gase is back and they renegotiate Ryan’s deal if they don’t land a free agent. Sad times for Miami fans once again we move to late and get stuck with leftovers.
I tend to agree that this year appears to be a weak year for going after a new head coach and quarterback; however, if the decision makers have no faith that Gase and/or Tannehill are the answer long term, do they stick with them for another year purely because it's a "weak" class? The argument against that is obvious. If Gase and Tannehill stay one more year and we go 10-6, they aren't suddenly born again NFL stars. They are still the same guys they were this season. I'm a Tannehill supporter, but I'm the first to admit that he reminds me of Jay Cutler. The talents there but for every great game there would be plenty of average ones. Tannehill flatters to deceive. That's not to say that I don't want him here next year or that I don't want him to succeed, but he is our Jay Cutler, and in someway Gase is a Cutler-esq head coach - he'll blow hot and cold and hover around that .500 mark. So if Ross and co believe that we need to clean house, then that's what this team should do. Look at the head coaching possibilities and pick someone, who knows, maybe there is a diamond in the rough. I'm sure Colts fans we're worried when they got shunned by Josh McDaniels, but Frank Reich has done a fine job for them. Sometimes a fairly unappealing hire can turn into a good one. Let's face it, hiring flashy coordinator comes with no guarantee as we've found out with Adam Gase. So while this year's group is lacklustre, it doesn't mean there isn't a good head coach to be had, and the same goes for the quarterback spot. For me there is no point putting off the decision. If a change is needed, make it. Otherwise commit to them both for next season and potentially beyond. Like I said, if we wait and they have a good year, there's no chance we'll move on from them in 2020 and although that is understandable, they'll still be the same flawed head coach and quarterback. So we either ride the highs and lows and accept their flaws and live with them, or we cut them loose and go all in on a new head coach and quarterback. Is that approach risky? Of course it is. But better take the risk than continue to accept mediocrity.
Picking the right coach and QB is often a crapshoot. Too many examples of failures for hyped up prospects and too many successes for those that weren't hyped up. Best approach is to keep gambling until you get the guy you want instead of trying to time the market.
I understand where they are coming from, but the way I see it every OC, DC, or special teams coach is a prospective HC. We also have the college ranks to choose from. Not saying everybody wants to be a HC, but if a guy seems like a good fit, it doesn't hurt to ask. It only takes one guy and if the chemistry is right it can make a huge difference.
I think Gase is fine if he sticks to one role only and thats head coach. Get him someone to call plays on offense and a DC for defense. He is involved too much on offense yet his playcalling is weak.
Didn't Loggains call one game for us this year? If I remember correctly, our offense was pretty good that day. If Gase would turn it over to him, I think that would be a good fit because they are on the same page. However, Gase has a lot of pride. I have my doubts he would be willing to give up control of the roster, be forced to hire a new DC, and give up play calling duties all in one swoop. That's a lot to ask and he probably would feel it looks like he is desperate to keep his job even though in the end it might make the most sense if we keep him.
Another reason to keep Gase. I’m not the Gase fan boy I was 6 months ago, but I’d bw willing to give him another chance. We can hate the man all we want, and Lord knows I’ve done my fair share, but there’s no doubt that injuries played a huge role in what happened after the 3-0 start. The one season this team wasn’t injured at key positions, he managed to lead them to the playoffs. That said, Tannehill needs to go. See Gase/Tannehill haters, I met ya halfway!
I think a lot of it is who can the guy bring with him? Wasn't our defense much better under Vance Joseph? IF Gase is able to make some coaching changes and Loggains call the plays, maybe we can be the team he want's us to be. For some reason, we were not able to get the hurry up going.
It's one thing to choose a GM independent of the HC. It's another thing to choose OC's and DC's independent of the HC. THAT should never happen because you're just increasing the chance there will be a potential clash of personalities or philosophies. The HC should have full responsibility for choosing his assistants, and the fact Gase doesn't fire Burke is an indictment on how bad Gase is. Was Vance Joseph any good? Don't see how. Our defense was ranked 20th and 19th in the 2 years before Joseph and ranked 18th with him, so basically the same. We're worse now than back then, but saying you're better than near worst in the league is meaningless.
