I am pretty sure Bowles and Campbell would have done a better job here than philbin and gase. Especially since they were already familiar with team and the players. Whenever you bring in somebody from outside you better be extra sure it is somebody with experience who can adapt quickly to a new team/players and environment and has a track record of success in similar situationss. The main problem with the dolphins for years has had more to do with the GM/personally Dept and a clueless owner who continually listens to the wrong people. Spielman and tbaum should shoulder most of the blame for our years of ineptitude.
Should Flores not accept the job, Adam Beasley says Dennis Allen is the next favorite. Armando Salguero says the team loved Allen’s interview.
They are going to have to prove me wrong. I’ve been too positive on hires and moves I’ve disagreed with for far too long. They’ve lost me.
He's a leader. He's held many positions for NE from scout to DC. He actually called the defense for NE this year. Google him and read about the adversity he's gone through. Players love and respect him. I mean, no one really knows if he'll be good or not, but I like the man.
I liked Richard too. He did a great job with the Cowboys secondary. That said, if we would have hired him as coach would he have coached the secondary, too? After Gase, I sort of want a guy who is just the HC. From what I have seen on youtube, I think Flores can be that guy. He sort of reminds me of Tomlin. I also like that he has experience scouting and as you said, the players love and respect him. If he can somehow draw a decent staff, then this might end up being a very good thing for us.
It's beyond me to even guess at who they will pick for our new HC. I feel if they don't do something, soon half the fan base will become comatose. When they make their selection the majority of the rest of us may become comatose. Personally, I'll be relieved to have it behind us so I can start to see what direction they take in reconstituting this team and coaching staff.
I appreciate the response. The same defense that gave up the miami miracle? to our sorry team? Sorry. I can’t shake the patriot hater in me.
The difference between Richard and Flores is, in Richard, you have the HC, owner and fans begging and praying that he doesn't go anywhere and with Flores, NE fans are happy to see him go and are actually laughing that he's likely to end up here. He's so well thought of, that Belichick is seemingly happy for him him go to a divisional rival. Christ on a bike!
This is BS, Flores is the second worst candidate out of all the people they interviewed, and Allen is the worst. We are getting other people's leftovers, the candidates nobody else wants NE won't miss Flores one bit. And it pisses me off how Grier seemingly has made up his mind before he even interviewed Rizzi. Rizzi is the top choice available imo and in the opinion of most of the players. I said it before if Flores is the pick I will officially lose all faith in Grier and the dolphins going forward. The incompetence continues. This move confirms to me that grier was a big part of the problem and is not the one who is going to bring us the solution.
The same defense that is ranked 7th in the league and in the playoffs as the #2 seed. He's a good pick. Will he be a good HC? No one knows, but if anyone deserves a chance he does.
Most Pats fans are stupid and bandwagon fans. Most have no idea who he is because of these two things.
Yeah right, they never even gave him a chance. Grier's mind was already made up before the interview. It was just a formality. If I'm Rizzi I walk, this organization doesn't deserve him.
Seems like we continually want to set the record for having the youngest (and greenest) coach in the league. This hire is so idiotic it is beyond belief.
I will be watching from afar, dolphins will always hold a place in my heart, but I just can't get behind this team and follow them like I did before. Not going to the games or buying merchandise anymore either. I already did that this season I knew it was going to be another ****show of a season. As you can see I didn't even post much on here during the season. When gase got fired I had some hope, but I see it's the same old ineptitude with Grier that we had with tbaum and spielman. Too many years of frustration with this team to continue to actively follow them anymore.
I take it that you're unaware of some of the coaching hires over the last 2 years? 3 if you include current hires.
Not all - probably here in the UK, yes but I've looked mainly on the US forums. There's a lad on my football (soccer) team's forum who's been following them since the Bledsoe days and he has given me an an honest and objective opinion and I trust his opinion. While he wasn't laughing and taking the p, It was far from a ringing endorsement and he's actually looking forward to strengthening the defence under a new coach so that alone tells me a lot. I hope you're right though and the majority of us are wrong, it's just that I can't be convinced that there's any positivity about this hire as it stands.
I’m not thrilled at this potential hire. I’m not saying (if Flores is selected) he’ll be a success nor disaster but I have stated repeatedly the last time the Dolphins has significant success was under an experienced head coach. Saban, Cameron, Sparano, Philbin, Gase...none had NFL head coaching experience and in this stretch of 13 years and 5 different head coaches, the Dolphins have had 2 playoff appearances. Taking a chance on a “potential” with no experience hasn’t panned out that well at all. I see doom and gloom for another 3 years, even if we have Cinderella success in season one. Sparano, Gase had that initial glory followed by failure. Hope I’m wrong but I can’t help but to feel I’m right
I understand where you are coming from. However, an old retread isn't going to want to coach the Dolphins right now. We have too many holes to fill and don't have a QB. Grier is going to try and do things differently than he has in the past so I am excited to see what kind of changes he has in store. As far as Flores goes. I can tell he already has a great rapport with Grier. I think that is important going forward because they need to share the same vision and be on the same page. Sure, there is going to be a learning curve for him, but I think the foundation is there. It's going to take some time. It may be a little bit. However, I think our team is going to be smart, tough, and play hard for him. I have a good feeling about this. I am pretty excited.
