here is the thing though.............. THERE WAS NO GOOD COACHING CANDIDATES THIS YEAR........ every single coach they could have hired is the same as Gase or a step back. should have just kept Gase, let him lose to the buzzsaw schedule we have next year then cut him and Thill together and draft Tua and find a good coach.
I like Caldwell, but it is actually you who were wrong. You're looking at the wrong column, 112 is the number of games, 62 is wins. Then you need to go one column over for the losses.
He is 62-50 as a HC, but he's not being hired as HC, he's potentially being hired as the OC. As such, he is a perfectly fine and likely upper echelon candidate for that job specifically.
I think people get down on Caldwell because of the googly eyes. He looks a little touched but looks Can be deceiving!
No Gase wore out his welcome pissed off and lost his team, had no system had cokehead coordinators, he was becoming toxic and no one wanted to play for him but tannehill. Cut and move on if this fails in 3 years move on again.
This idea of "no good coaching candidates" or "no QBs in this draft" so wait until next year would never works. Thankfully NFL teams realize this. There are always good coaches available for hire, you just have to find them. People thought the draft with Winston and Mariotta was amazing with two top guys and people thought the draft with Wentz and Goff was weak.
I completely agree. But there's another side to that coin as well- it's entirely possible that injuries were a factor and Gase ends up highly successful. We hit reset without even thinking about possible upside.
We'll have to see. Because even with injuries, Gase's ability to adjust is suspect, to say the least.
Ross has about two more chances to get the coaching hire right, so if he wants to spend one of them on Flores? Uh, okay, I guess. Also, why all the Gase regret? He would NEVER have changed if he was given another year in Miami. Actually getting fired may get him to step back and make changes for the better. I doubt it since he dropped right into another head coaching job, so he'll rationalize things as the Jests knowing better than Miami that he had the right approach all along.
i didn't say he didn't but there is no BETTER options we are going parallel or backwards with a new coach this year thanks to the crap pool of coaches. tough schedule and perceived players not liking Gase (which has been debunked btw) just means we get Tua. and makes letting Gase and Thill go even easier. and we get a better coaching hire.
I think most of us - including Grier and Ross - absolutely thought about that potential upside, and realized it wasn't as much as was needed to save his job.
I’ve said this before but I’ve got about as much trust in Ross making a decision with this franchise as I do a Russian handling our elections
I'm actually fine with this. 1) I judge coaches on their merit, not their tree. Maybe other NE coaches have failed because MOST coaches fail. Maybe they were never cut out to be above their position to begin with. 2) He's similar to Grier in the sense I believe he has been with NE a while and worked his way up. Correct me if I'm wrong here, but give me two hard workers on the same page. Maybe he understands what it takes to be successful on the field. I'm not thrilled, but I wasn't going to be thrilled about ANY of these hires.
I finally took some time out to listen to some of Flores's old interviews. I am very unimpressed. I dont see a head coach...sorry. I hope he works out, but I didn't like the Philbin or Gase hires from jump either. I get that same feeling when looking at Flores's unimpressive resume and old interviews. I was getting on board with Kris Richards though. His interviews showed a lot of knowledge of the game and intensity. I saw a leader. Im not sure how he or Rizzi lost out to Flores. I'll root for him though.
There are like 3 or 4 of them that I watched on YouTube. Just type in 'Brian Flores interview'. They'll pop up.
Also, and I just thought of this, Grier is going out on the limb for Flores. I mean he would be going out on the limb for any of the green HC's, but this is his first and perhaps his only hire. He may not get a 2nd chance if it is a complete disaster. Initially, Armando was saying that Ross is doing the hiring. I was pretty upset about that. However, indications now are that Grier is doing the hiring. This is a big thing. He wants to make it work. People are suggesting that Flores is a temporary hiring so we can tank the next couple of years. I don't buy it. Just like I don't buy coaches and teams tanking for a draft pick. I believe they will always try to win because it is not something you can turn off and then turn it back on like a switch. IMO, Grier is not taking this hiring lightly and he really believes that Florio can get our team back on track. I am a team chemistry guy. If Grier and Florio have good chemistry then I hope it permeates throughout the organization. Besides, at this point what do we have to lose? What we have been doing hasn't been working so maybe this will.
Oh, it means Roman is gone. Ravens promoted him quickly since he was getting interest. I'm half suspicious the Patriots don't do something similar with Flores. Remember McDaniels was supposed to be the Colts' HC and then backed out.
OC is to get Roman to stay and get a contract extension. All coordinator jobs are considered the same by the NFL, other than Head Coach. Patriots would have to hire Flores as a Head Coach to get him to not be a Dolphin.
Generally yes, but McDaniels was offered a head-coaching position and at the last minute ditched it and went back to be a coordinator with the Pats.
I like the idea of a bit of humor while being no nonsense and demanding results. Looking at the Patricia hire, it was pretty clear he was just trying to emulate BB, not applying lessons he learned under BB while being his own guy. To the point he was reprimanding media for "slouching" even as he did his sloppy Joe routine. Get a grip dude. Hopefully Flores can be his own guy.
I am feeling conflicted. Since Flores is who they are saying is going to be our HC, I want him to do well so he comes to Miami with some momentum. However, it's the Patriots, and I don't think I have EVER rooted for them to win AND if they do win then it just delays the announcement and Flores's ability to build his staff. Man, this sucks! Maybe I can get Tonya Harding to break one of Brady's legs. That way the Patriots lose, but the offense gets the blame. I know, I know, I am one sick bastard! ;-)
I believe your gonna find out the players will respect the hell out of this man.. He’s admittedly hard on them, and has the genuiness and leadership gene to make players listen.. I’ll tell you this Rox, there isnt gonna be any lollipo practices anymore in Miami.. This dude is serious about building and leading a team, all facets, not some wussy *** play caller
If you keep reading and researching your going to see he’s different on his players in practice then he is in front of a mic.. Bekicek is monotone and completely vague in front of the mic.. Scouts and players talk about how tough and intense he is..How hard he is on his players
That would actually be pretty messed up of us. "Here sir...potentially ruin your career so we can get some juicy draft picks"
I won't even pretend to know who that is. And I surprisingly care very little about who the coach is. I care a heck of a lot more about us doing better in the draft(s) I better let it be known here that I favored Kris Richard though in case he goes on to have success Lol. If we can't fill in these holes at least as fast as they open, it doesn't really matter who is HC. I hope he does well though. If they were going to hire a position coach, I cant think of a place the Dolphins have been so consistently bad at, as LB. Boy do I miss the days of Zach Thomas zipping around the field effortlessly knowing exactly where he needs to be.
