They were becoming a 'poor man's Marks Brothers' and they were something that could flip the field in a heartbeat and where anywhere on the field was 'goal to go'. If both could be back to 100% by late Sept, early Oct, our offense would be transformed overnight upon their arrival. Right now, if we let Parker walk, what do we really have at a position that was a clear strength as of 9/1/2018?
Way too early to speculate. Once we get a coach we can start to try and read the tea leaves on the general direction of our team. Here is a way too early guess though. I have a hard time believing that the next coach will want an undersized receiving corps. My guess is Wilson stays and eventually, someone overpays for Grant.
I don't. They are both playmakers and we need those. If one of them gets beat out by a better, bigger player, so be it. However, right now they are two guys I hope stick around a long while.
Both will be back, but it's hard to gauge how much their injuries will affect them going forward. Hopefully, they fully heal and play at the same level as before.
I expect both to be back, due to cost. Whether they can perform or not, who knows. I'm not a big fan of making either one a focus. They're ok 3rd and 4th WRs for 2019 if healthy, then I'd be happy to move on from both.
That's the whole point though- they're not supposed to be WR1's and I think we used Grant perfectly with 1-3 touches per game. That's how he scored almost every time he saw the darn ball. I think we used Wilson about right as well with 6-10 touches per game. Who knows if they'll come back at 100%...I have my fingers crossed though!
The same thing was said about wanting an undersized linebacker. Thank Christ Jimmy Johnson didn't listen to that nonsense and drafted Zach Thomas. I believe Grant will be a DOlphin for a long time to come. I could be wrong, but somehow I don't think so.
Ahhhhhh, there is an "Exception Man" on every board. Anyone can find a rare exception to an overarching truth, but it does not diminish greater truths as a whole. Think about this. Why don't we sign a team of undersized LBs? Thank Christ, Jimmy Johnson didn't listen to that nonsense an draft Zach Thomas. I mean, let's completely ignore the fact that Jimmy Johnson DID listen to that "nonsense" and passed on drafting him EIGHT TIMES. But hey, let's not let the facts get in the way of a really heartwarming anecdote. Why don't we wait till the 6th round to draft a QB? We will probably land the next Tom Brady. Why even draft running backs going forward? We will probably get a hybrid of Phillip Lindsay and Priest Holmes as an UDFA. I bet Kyler Murray being vastly undersized won't be a problem because Doug Flutie did it. Exceptions are just that, exceptions. You cannot count on them or expect them to happen.
Soooooo, Jakeem Grant really is a worthless piece of crap then? He doesn’t fall into that “something special” category. Got it :smh:
Of course there are exceptions. Your problem is that your using ONLY size to predict what the next regime wants. Sure, Grant is small, but he produces. And THAT should be what the next regime looks at. And the guys you listed aren't good because they are exceptions to the rule, they are/were good because they could play football really well.
Mostly agree here. Grant is undersized, but no-one cares when he takes a short pass 60 yards to the endzone. No-one thinks Grant is a #1 but he's an explosive #3 or #4 guy that most teams don't have the luxury of using. Not to mention special teams value.
If you didn't know Grant or Wilson by sight and someone described their ability, work ethic, and love for football would you want them on your team? I probably can answer for you by saying, hell yeah! Give me 53 guys with their work ethic and love for football, right? Well. That's what Grier is going to be looking for. Ross said it, he has said it. No more washed up, lazy, country club types like Julius Thomas. I am sure that Flores and his coaching staff will have prototypes that Grier will try and find, but the number one thing that they will be asking about any guy we bring in is does he have football toughness, a love for football, and is he willing to put the team first.
Wilson isnt cheap. But between the injury and the contract, it's highly likely hes a dolphin in 2019.
Cap hit of 8.3m in 2019, and 10.3 in 2020. 2020 is the final year of the deal, and only a 1.3m dead money hit if he cut him, so we'll see how he fits in and plays with the new system next year and then go from there. Wouldn't shock me if he only plays in Miami two years.
I'll admit that it's likely at those numbers he may not be around but I also think he has the potential to earn that money. Grant and Wilson are pretty much my ideal #3 and #4 receivers, guys that can be a mismatch against most #3 or #4 corners every time, but you need at least a good #1 with them.
You're having a hard time believing that a Patriots assistant would be fine with smaller receivers. Just think about that one for a while.
