So it looks like the Eagles are committed to Carson Wentz and rightfully so IMHO much higher upside and age, so Foles will probably be shopped. While he’s no spring chicken he has some tread left. he’s a super bowl MVP, been in big games. He makes some mistakes and might not be the long term answer but I’m assuming we can get him for less than Ryan in a 2-3 year deal and draft one while we rebuild. He wants to start and a lot of the teams with new coaches have quarterbacks. Oakland might or Washington might make a move but I think he would be a good fit in Miami assuming the style of offense we run is somewhat similar. He’s got good accuracy as well.
I think there is a very good chance Ryan is gone, so basically your asking do you want to sign Foles at the same amount as tannehill per year and let him lead your franchise into the future.. Are you ready to do that?
I think we can get him for less. Ryan would require 4-5 year deal Foles would give us a good QB without breaking the bank. Unless we draft a rookie QB we need someone to drive the bus. Depending on cost I would make him the QB on 3-4 year deal with a way to get out 2 years in when a rookie is ready
There are very few teams where you can plug and play a QB and philly is one of them. When you have that much talent around you, sometimes a turd can seem polished
Miami has made it clear that they aren't going to try to win next year. Therefore I don't think Foles or Tannehill are options next season.
If we're tanking, just bring in Ryan Fitzpatrick and Josh McCown. Let the old men battle it out, and keep either Rudock or Falk as the third option.
Foles is Tannehill, except comes up in some big moments. You can win like that. If we could revamp both lines in one off season and sign Foles it would be good. But I’m not sure it’s the right move.
I don't think Foles is all that much better than Tannehill. I mean....I think he's better, but not by a large enough margin to sign him to a 20 mil per year contract (which I think he may possibly get). I know Foles won a Super Bowl and has played great in the clutch, but I honestly feel like Tannehill would have the same amount of success on that Philadelphia team. Foles proved once to be fools gold during his tenure with the Rams. I'm not saying he'd bust a second time around, and I certainly hope he doesn't because i'm a big Foles fan. But, i'd rather not risk it with him. In fact, i'd rather trade for Derek Carr or draft a guy before trying to get Nick Foles.
There isn't a rat's chance in hell that Ryan Tannehill would have been just as good as Foles during their Super Bowl run. Watch a replay of the Super Bowl and some of the clutch, big time, third down throws Foles made to win the game. Tannehill folds under pressure and can't convert third downs if his life depending on it. As for Foles or Tannehill my answer is I'd take neither.
What do we need a good QB for? You do realize they're blowing it up right? They're not really going to be trying to win a lot of games in the next few years.
Point taken, I stand corrected. Tannehill has always been a big tease to me (and i'm sure all of us). I just wonder how much of Foles' success is due to coach Pederson and the great things they are doing in Philly.
I have always like Tannehill, both for his physical gifts and for his personality. Very easy guy to root for and get behind. However, I now accept that he's likely played his last game as a Dolphin. He and Foles are similar in some ways. They're about the same age, came into the league the same year, and are both guys that, if healthy, can do well in some systems and not so well in others. If healthy being the key, because I don't think that Ryan has been right since he injured his knee in 2016. He wasn't the same player last year at any point that he had been before. For his sake, I hope that he gets back 100%, and finds a team that can put him in a position to maximize his abilities, and I'll root for him. Even if I felt that the Fins were a team that needed a veteran QB to make a run at the playoffs this coming season, I wouldn't want to sign Foles. I don't like his style, or the system of offense that he needs to be in to do well. He's also proven to be extremely streaky, and had looked absolutely awful at times in the wrong system - far worse than RT17 ever has. I don't want to go expensive at QB at all, honestly. Save the money and roll it into 2020. And while we're at it, why shoot for a ceiling of six or seven wins. That doesn't help the team long term. If we're going to suck anyways, then just bottom out this coming year with a cheap QB and start over the year afterwards.
Regardless of how I feel about him, there is just no way they can keep T-hill if they want a new start. I just don't see that happening. I would seriously look into Bridgewater and if they can't get him, then I would look into one of the other vets out there. It would only be as a stop gap, a "Bridge" have you, whilst they work on other holes on the team and until they get the opportunity to draft a QB, whenever that may be.
I think Foles would be too expensive and not a considerable enough upgrade on RT17 to make it worthwhile. I'd look at Bridgewater, if he comes cheap and see what Falk can do as his back up. If we're determined to ride the tank to 2020, I'd do that.
Tannehill is still on the team because it's cheaper to cut him after June 1st. He's also still around because he's our current starting QB- I don't think we cut him until you have new coaches in the building, they evaluate and other moves are made. Despite what folks think, he's still a good NFL QB and a capable starter.....you don't throw that away until you have a suitable replacement.
Me too.....for several different reasons. I do think Kaep > RT though and that's the one that really matters.
I don’t understand this fascination with Bridgewater. He’s less than second rate and far less gifted than Tannehill. If we do part ways with Tannehill, then Foles is the obvious option. He came in last season for Wentz, leading the Eagles to the Super Bowl and awarded the MVP. Again he came in for Wentz and helped bring a crippled team back into the playoffs. The man has heart and determination.
I fully agree. Moving on from RT is fine if that's what the front office decides. From there I only see two paths though- start Fales/Falk and let one of them develop (while we Suck for Luck II) or bring in a legitimate day one starter. What I don't want to see is us starting Osweiler or overpaying for a has-been who really never was. We've done the Daunte Culpepper thing and we all know how that turns out....15 years of rebuilding. No thank you. I want a young gun to prospect or a legit day 1 starter with stats AT LEAST on RT's level....we need to skip everyone between those two though. With Nick Foles I'm really torn, because it will be a big contract and we'd likely be locked in for at least a few seasons. That's fine if we're going to try to hit the QB lottery in 2021 but I can't imagine Foles not going to a team where he's getting a 4-5 year deal. While I wouldn't mind having him, I don't know if the logistics work in our favor right now.
If we want to maximize our chances of winning regardless of price? Foles, easily. If we want to try and cash in on a pure lotto ticket with a hugely high chance of failure? Falk. If we want to try and balance winning with lotto ticket potential? Bridgewater. If we want to balance winning with a lotto ticket with some goodwill? CKap. If we want a middling veteran best served as a backup to play starter while we reset the team for 2020/2021? Fitzmagic, a McCown or a myriad other types. If we want to bash our head in with a brick? Tannehill.
It’s definitely a viable plan..Especially if you work the contract correctly.. The thing we don’t know is how much they are willing to be a low level team for the next two years to accumulate assets.. They simply may not want to pay 18-20 mill a year on the qb position while they’re in this process.. I don’t think anyone can get Foles for less then that..
He's not less than second rate. C'mon. He was ok on a bad team and then he was looking very good during that last year with the Vikes until he got injured. He went to the jets, but they drafted their young, possible franchise guy who they decided to roll with, but Teddy looked really good in the preseason with them. He then went to the Saints and had to sit behind a sure HOF QB. He is most certainly, at the very least, worth a serious look. Less gifted than Tannehill? Based on what? I firmly believe we would have a better record this past season had he been our QB, He would have been able to mitigate some of the pressure with his better movement in and around the pocket.
Unless they strengthen the line, Foles would get killed in Miami. The guy is a pocket passer. In other words a sitting duck. He is going to want to go to a team that is a lot closer to a title than we are anyway so it really doesn't matter. Jacksonville is the most obvious choice to me.
This conversation is moot. John DeFilipo got hired as the OC for the Jags. It's sending a very clear signal that the Jags will likely make an offer for Foles. If it were up to me, I would've hired him too then paid Foles a handsome fee for two years while a rookie develops.
I don't think anyone is fascinated with Bridgewater. He's just a decent one year flyer stop gap to get us to 2020
I’m telling you Foles can be had for much less than Ryan if he’s guaranteed a starting position. I’m not sure he’s the right fit for the system they want but he’s definitely an interesting option. If you could get him for 3 years 30-35 million that would be a steal IMHO. Maybe I’m crazy I don’t think he commands nearly 20 plus which is what he’s do this year if the eagle retained him. He made 10 this year. Ryan’s due 17-18 this year so if we can replace him with files cheaper than perfect. Ryan’s due 19 next year as well so 35 for three with an out or nice signing bonus works for me
If so notnworth it but I don’t think the market will be there for him at 20+ per year IMHO. Nor do I want Bridgewater at that price
The question isn't just what teams are looking for QBs but also what other QBs are available. Let's face it, this offseason there isn't enough obvious options across the draft and free agency to meet demand and therefore someone is going to overpay for the options in free agency because someone always does. For the Dolphins I suppose the question is how committed are we to the rebuild? And how many wins does having Foles over Tannehill get you? Is it the difference between being in the playoffs and not being in the playoffs? To me we're not close enough that getting into the free for all over Foles is going to do us any good so I'd pass.
How do you not think so? Jimmy Garoppolo's contract was for $27.5 million and he just won a few games for the Patriots and then 5 games with the 49ers. He did not win a Superbowl. IMO Foles contract is going for at least $23 million a year.
I think the more interesting discussion is what Ryan Tannehill is actually worth. Remember, he was top 5 to start the season before injury, and he was top 5 down the stretch until the line fell apart. I'm sure those carrots will be dangled in free agency and someone will bite. OMG, I just thought of something! What if Gase wants Tannehill in NY? LOL, Darnold for Tannehill straight up! I can already imagine the headlines that would make.... Seriously though, what is Tannehill optimistically worth to the right team? I could see a 2nd or a 3rd maybe.
