My mind is in a fight with itself. I hate the patriots. But now I’m rooting for their defense. As that is our guy soon. I don’t want to see him do bad before he comes here. But I don’t want him to do good either. Ugh.

Eh let them lose a 3-0 game then. Just think of it as giving him a head start for us.

One game, however it turns out, shouldn't change your opinion on Flores. Me? I hope NE gets utterly blown out.

Also, this is the 1st time ever that the top 4 scoring offenses have made it to the Conference Championships, so I would love to see an offensive slugfest that just further emphasizes the need for us to get the QB position right (and if there's an exception let it be Brady that doesn't deliver and NE's defense getting gashed).

"Miami is expected to complete a second interview with Flores this week. Under NFL rules, a team who completed a interview with a coaching candidate from a playoff team can conduct a second interview with the candidate during the bye week ahead of the Super Bowl should the candidate’s team make the championship game. Teams are not allowed to hire a coach as long as his team remains in the playoffs. The Dolphins and Flores are expected to discuss more of his coaching staff preferences during the second interview."

How that reads to me is, its already a done deal. They are using the second interview available to talk about staffing and the plan going forward...

I agree. As i am very skeptical also.
But he might be a homerun?
Might as well give him a shot?
I admittedly don’t know chit about flores. The last thing i do is study new england coaches. I just hope we get good somehow.

It's fine to not be thrilled about the hire but let's not pretend like any of us actually know the first thing about any of these candidates.

None of us were in the interview room. Nome of the other candidates look much better anyway from a fan perspective.

People were saying the same things about Matt Patricia same time last year.

I am skeptical mainly because Bill Belichek’s coaching tree is so stunted. Who knows, maybe Patricia and Flores will turn it around and become good HCs. All I know is that if I were betting on a coaching tree I’d rather bet on Andy Reid.

Then again if you go back one level to Bill Parcells, not BB, the tree is a lot more successful. Which indicates the possibility of a BB disciple eventually becoming a successful NFL coach.

Yeah, people were making a lot of the fact that Patricia was a rocket scientist(iirc) before his coaching career and how much his players loved him.

I've said it before but the whole tree thing is just stupid.

Either a guy has what it takes to be a HC or doesn't. He either picks up the tendencies of a successful franchise or he doesn't.

Considering the fact that most new HC fail to begin with, I don't care about past tendencies of NE coaches.

If the interview process was correct, hopefully we landed the right guy. If he isn't the right guy, it has nothing to do with coming from NE.

Correlation doesn't equal causation after all.

I think it's worth investigating and bringing up in a fashion. A successful tree indicates a guy at the top who has both an eye for coaching talent, and who can impart not only wisdom, but teach others how to teach. A non-successful tree indicates the head may not be developing teachers or imparting his full wisdom. It's worth at least asking about, but at the end of the day, you interview and identify the individual and if they have the "right" answers, you go with it.

I think it's probably something I'd only consider if all other things were equal.

Maybe Bill isn't a great verbal teacher to his coaches, but a lot of people (like myself) learn better by watching and experiencing than being told.

Edit: Also not going to lie, I think a coach gets judged mainly on the talent he inherited.

There are great coaches, competent coaches, and bad coaches. Most fall into the competent category and succeed because the fall in with a good QB situation.

Marvin Lewis is a competent coach, but he received praise (until the end) because he had Palmer and then Dalton to lead the offense.

Would Romeo or McDaniels have been decent HC if they fell in with the right QB?

When does it become a tree of Person Y, when Person Y was part of the coaching tree of Person X?

For example, why are we saying Flores is from the Belichick tree and not the Parcells tree? In theory, shouldn't Flores be part of the Belichick branch off the Parcells tree? Or what tree was Parcells part of?

The simple fact of the matter is that HCs aren't hiring guys they think will be HCs someday. They are hiring guys because they show traits they want for the open position or because of the typical NFL nepotistic old boy network. So the talk of coaching trees is pointless.

Again, all this is just trying to boil down complex issues into a non complex way which is never right. Coaching trees should be filed into the same place as:

    - It factor
    - clutch
    - Corinthian leather

This man has about the experience level of Gace.
Welcome to 5 more years of mediocrity AGAIN
He is in a short leash in NE

If I was going to pull the trigger I would look at Doug Marone, Wade Phillip's and Greg Williams.

I laughed at those people. He's not a rocket scientist and he's an accused rapist. He was selling centrifuges before coaching the Patriots. lol

I don't think he has the same character or had the same respect given to him by his players. At least when I looked into him I didn't find any.

I am curious to how the game planning meetings go with the Patriots. Do you think Belichick rules the roost, or do you think it's a consensus between him and his top lieutenants. I mean, he can try, but do you think he does it all? Flores and McDaniel surely have input with the diagnosing weaknesses and developing the game plan, right? If so, why couldn't Flores be a good coach just because he comes from the Belichick tree? Is Belichick able to cover for his coaches' weaknesses just like he does for players on his team? I give him credit. He is surely one of the greats, but he either does it all or has one hell of a system in place if his assistants aren't at least close to his equal or better. The players have to learn from somebody. He can't teach them all.

When people talk about BB's failed coaching tree they are aren't talking about the good coaches, obviously. I get it because he's had some failed HC's branch off from him.

But let's look at his entire tree.

Saban: Anyone who says he's a failed coach is just bitter because of how the Dolphins and him worked out. No one knows if he would or could have been successful in the NFL. He didn't like it and left.

Ferentz: The longest tenured coach in college. He's made Iowa a legit football team.

Groh: Nothing fancy, but not a failed HC. He coached the Jets for a season and they finished 9-7. Then he went to be the HC at Virginia for about 10 years. Nothing great, but he did get to plenty of bowl games and finished with a winning record.

O'Brien: Too early to call. He's been with Houston for 5 seasons and had 3 playoff births.

McDaniels: Failed at Denver. Although, and putting Tebow aside, he drafted some really good players who went on to win a Super Bowl in Denver. I'll wait until his second HC job to determine if he's a failure or not.

Jim Swartz: Mediocre HC. Not a failed HC by any means. Good defensive coach.

    Mangini: Sucked

Crennel: Not a good HC. Really good DC.

    Weis: Sucked

Patricia: Too early to tell. (I don't like him though)

Jason Garrett: He actually learned up Saban, but Saban learned under BB.

    Vrabel: Too early to tell.

I’m happy we didn’t fall for the “let’s go get that hot offensive coordinator guy” like we did three years ago, instead, we focused on true leadership and teaching..

In this town we need a guy like Flores, a bad *** disciplinarian who doesn’t have to tell you he’s a bad ***..

    No more lollipop practices..

Not looking down on anyone. You guys do that to yourselves with the constant insults and pathetic attempts to scientifically explain why the team is failing.
The facts are you havent had a good coach since Shula. JIMMY quit as did Saban.
Maybe you dont realize I been on here for 10 yrs. I have seen you guys do the same thing each and.every year. Scientifically attempt to analyze everything, insult each other back and forth, try and convince yourself THIS IS THE YEAR. All the while the front office continues to put dog **** on the field and you guys suck it up year after year after year. Tannenbaum has ruined the chances of this team. He has done it where ever he has been. He is a Cancer!! Until he goes no coach will have a prayer of building a championship team. Please dont start with winning a championship is not necessary to be successful - it's the only thing. Anything short is failure.
