Getting any compensation for McCown is a huge plus and benefit. Not cutting either (McCown or Beck) outright as a freebie for the league is a huge plus. Now, I have to think Henne is the guy over Beck...but, 3rd string QBs (while not as aged as Beck) have been known to garner interest too. So who knows, maybe down the line we get something for Beck too. (if you belileve Henne is the future). Win, Win, Win!
Maybe it will be WR Steve Smith. That would be the deal of a century. But yes, any compensation will be a benefit for a guy we were going to cut anyway. I think The Panthers is a good spot for him. Wish him the best.
But.....but.....but..... I thought Beck was the one that was on the outs? After all, he wasn't "their guy". Exactly
No, it's still going. Apparently we're going to trade Beck "later" and have only two QBs. Anyway, because I haven't done this yet despite being right a startling amount of the time: I told you so.
When a QB can't seem to even get the ball from center week after week, chances are you aren't going to get anything for him. If you have two disposable parts and one fetches more than the other, then you dispose of the more valueable one. Consdering that Beck was supposed to be the STARTER coming into this seaosn (it was widely believed to be the case), the fact that he receives less compansation than a journeyman QB and has to settle for third on the depth chart has got to be a downer for the guy.
Erm... no, he was always in competition with McCown for the starting spot. The braintrust hoped that Beck would step up and claim the starting job, but then Pennington became available and the plan changed. Long term, this is better for Beck. He now gets to sit and develop, just as Henne does. Next year's QB competition will be crucial.
IMO Beck was the more valuable one. Also there was the rumor that Dallas offered a 5th for Beck and that we turned it down.
