Watched American Animals and really enjoyed it.

Name doesn't present very well for the movie imo, loved how the intro to the movie states it is not based on a true story it is a true story.

Takes place about 15 years ago in Lexington Kentucky, the movie flips between the movie with acting to the real life people portrayed in the movie.

The plan becomes a heist of a valuable rare book from the library and how they plan to sell it. Not an action movie at all, more an odd good story with good acting and the real life characters are very good in the movie.

Went to do see "Venom" a couple of days ago. I give it a 6.5 out of 10. It was entertaining & had good action. I was a little disappointed that there wasn't enough destruction and chaos. They need to improve that next time.

I think Venom should have been going up against a better "villain". I can't stand a weak villain in super hero movies. I hear the sequel will pit Venom against Carnage, so I am hoping it will be more destruction and mayhem. I want to see a freaking blood bath. Make the next one rated R.

Just watched the futuristic AI sci-fi Upgrade.......... F***ing fantastical. Highly immersive. Instant cult classic. Adrenaline rush. Violent, original, impeccable. As good as or better than John Wick 2 and is up there with something like The Terminator. Goes to show you what kind of quality you can get out of a mere $5,000,000 budget.

So I used a "rent one, get one free" at Redbox, but the "get one free" part had to be a regular DVD ....... Man it's amazing how sh**ty these things look to us now that we're completely adjusted to everything HD this and Blu-ray that. Makes the movie look like a B quality film. I remember when Blu-ray first came out and, to my eyes, I couldn't discern a highly notable difference in quality between it and regular DVD..... but now that my eyes are acclimated to HD, regular DVD's f***ing suck.

I was a very early adopter of the Bluray format and of HDTV, and have been beating that drum for more than a decade now. It makes me laugh when someone says that they can't see the difference.

However, sometimes it really depends on both the DVD and on the player. I watch all of my discs on my PS4, and it does a really good job of upscaling and making the best out of what the DVD has. The difference in the same disc on a crappy machine can be noticable sometimes. (we have a garbage 7" player that we bring in the car)

Different movies give you different levels too. An older film, made before HD was a thing, will often have less of a difference than a newer one. And animated movies often still look really good on regular DVDs, regardless. (High end CGI ones are of course best on Bluray)

I never got it either. It blew me away when I saw Bluray.

Speaking of HD, I have no idea how I watched football on SD. It is night and day how good it looks.

Football in SD on a big HDTV is an unwatchable blur. Its disgusting. I had to suffer through that a few weeks ago for the Patriots game because Comast carries an out of town CBS station that had the game, but not in HD for whatever reason.

However, if you still have an old SDTV and hook it up to your cable or satelite box, the picture is much better. Probably closer to what you remember. I had a 32" that I would use that way up until a few years ago, when I'd watch college games on the small one and play video games on the big one at the same time.

Ralph Breaks the Internet was a lot of fun. If you liked the first one, I think that you'll like this one too. Its a bigger movie, but I think that they try to cram a bit too much in, and would have been better served spending more time focusing on fewer things.

My biggest complaint is that while the movie has a good message, it doesn't have a real villain, but rather is the heroes against the situation. This means that they lose a lot of fun from having a funny/over the top bad guy like the first one.

In the gameday thread on Sunday, someone mentioned that they wanted to see the new Clint Eastwood movie. It holds absolutely no appeal to me, and I'll never see it. But it did make me go back and think about when the last time I did see one of his movies. His stuff just isn't my cup of tea whatsoever.

But rather than clutter the football thread, I thought I'd post in here.

It looks like the last movie that I saw him as an actor was In The Line of Fire, from 1993. I didn't care for it. Before that, it was The Dead Pool, which was far less enjoyable that Deadpool!

As a director, the last one I saw was Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, from 1997. It was really good, but not something I'd watch a second time.

Due to buying the week early pass I have now watched Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.

I will start off by saying that Spider-Man is my favorite comic book character if not my favorite character of all time.

I can honestly say that right now Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, is my favorite, by far Spider-Man movie. It is my favorite origin movie. It amazes me on how much fun I had. This movie captured the Amazingness of Spider-Man. It was spectacular.

The animation was amazing. The trailers did not do a good job of capturing how good this movie looks. It is a feast for the eye. Steve Dikto came to life on the screen. The music was great. The story was heartfelt. In fact, I am calling my dad tomorrow because the movie made me miss him.

I went in with high expectations and the movie met them. I need to watch it again, but it might be my favorite superhero movie. I came out of the theatre with such a big smile on my face. I want to see it again. If they just started the movie again, I would have watched it again.

If you are a fan of Spider-Man you need to see this movie on the big screen.
If you are a fan of comic books, you need to see this movie on the big screen.

Finally saw Venom. Loved that it was direct and to the point. No filler space. No “wups the bad guy got away” cliche “so let’s monotonously spend another 45 minutes circling back to it”. Rather than wearing me out it left me wanting more.

I went to see Aquaman today and enjoyed it. Its big, its loud, its pretty, its fast and its fun. They didn't try to do too much or make it more than it is, and it worked. Jason Momoa is really likable. I had never seen Amber Heard in anything before, but she did well in her role as Mera. Overall, its the second DC movie that I've liked along with Wonder Woman, after hating the rest.

Hella creepy. Lynchian. A bit open-ended for my liking, but between this and Hereditary- it's been a good year for horror. There's always a couple that try and succeed to transcend the genre in interesting ways.

I watched Pirates of the Caribean: Dead Men Tell No Tales tonight. It was very easily the weakest of the five moves in the series. The plot was thin, and they didn't bother even really coming up with good fantasy excuses for why things were the way that they were. It was also hard to take seriously when they jumped way forward in time, but many of the characters from the earlier moves only aged slightly, which made no sense.

The young actress Kaya Scodelario was very solid in her role. All of the other newer additions were weak, and the older ones gave a weak effort.

I thought ‘Polar’ [Netflix] was f***ing great. If something like a cross between John Wick & Crank sounds appealing to you, then this is right up your alley. Several “out loud” moments, plus the final 2 sentences leading to a vocal “YES” on my end.

Saw Lego Movie 2 yesterday with the family. Its good, and its funny, but its also probably the weakest of the four Lego movies to this point (including Lego Batman and Lego Ninjago). They have a good plot, a good theme and a lot of funny lines, but they try to shoehorn all of the characters in from the first movie without a real reason to. In the first movie, each one had a purpose, even if that purpose was just to make a silly joke. This time, like with a lot of sequels, they seem to feel like they have to make a place for all of them again, and it becomes cluttered.

Instead of a 10/10 like the original, its more of a 7.5/10. Worth seeing if you liked the other movies. The kids will enjoy it. But maybe not worth going out of your way to see, and not an upgrade over what they've done before.

MADS is the best Euro actor since Rutger Hauer. I'll watch anything of his. The PUSHER trilogy (he stars in the second) is one of the best set of movies ever made. Just watched THE HUNT which has him as an innocent man accused of child molestation and what he has to deal with. The movie was great though scary. That is real horror

Watched the Sisters Brothers tonight, one of the best Westerns I've seen for a while. Bit different to your usual Western, and John C Reilly is fantastic in it. Joachim Phoenix does a good job as the other brother too.

    Alita: Battle Angel

I very much enjoyed this movie. A solid 7 out of 10. The biggest issue is it felt like it was 2 hours and 20 minutes. It did feel like it dragged for story and plot and world building.

The best positive is the action is amazing. The CGI is probably the best I have seen. There wasn't one part where I was taken out and thinking that what I was seeing wasn't real. Everything had the right weight. It looked like it was $200 million was well spent.

I thought the trailers were bad and the big eyes were stupid. However, when watching the movie, the big eyes weren't a problem because she wasn't meant to look human, and it makes you so darn cute!

The acting was great, the action is great, the 3-D effects are outstanding, it even does the thing where the stuff is coming right at you!

I had a blast. It is the type of movie that is best watched in a movie theater. Kind of wish I went to a better theater to get a better experience.

If you like anime, you need to see this movie. If you like action, I am sure you will enjoy the action parts.

Rewatched the first season of Spotless and loved it again. 2 French brothers in London in a dark drama with comedic threads but definitely not a comedy. Taught crime based show where an estranged brother unannounced calls on his brother in the middle of the night with with the body of a dead girl and pulls him into the underside of London.

Season 2 has no official status which hopefully will occur after several years.

    Just watched Captain Marvel.

I think the movie is extremely fun. I enjoyed the heck out of it. Better than Alita: Battle Angel, so I would give it a solid 8/10.

The thing that sells the movie for me is the characters. They all had great chemistry and I felt like I was watching real people in an insane situation. It is not a perfect movie. As a fan of villains, this movie did not have the greatest villain. Felt very Phase 1 in that regard.

If you like sci-fi action, you are going to love this movie. If you think the world is being ruined by SJWs and political correctness is cancer on society, then you will probably not like this movie and you should die in a fire. In a way where you are not knocked out by the smoke, but feel every second of the burn.

I will say that unless you buy into a certain character in the movie, do not stay for the second end credit scene. IMO, I felt I wasted my damn time. The first one got me excited and was the third time the crowd cheered.
