Dammit, my first thought on reading the headline was “WTF Keith has been retired for years”.

Sims is a fine player, but he would be depth on almost any team, and not a difference maker. We have tons of depth at TE. What we don't yet have are difference makers. Hopefully, Gesicki can turn into that. If not, we'll see what we might have in the others. But Sims would just be another guy.

I think Gesicki's perceived troubles were due to Gase and his staff. Here you have a great potential seam threat and what does he do most of the year? Block. I don't remember him running a seam route all year. I guess he must have but it sure wasn't often.

I for one am glad he is going to get some different coaching this year. Let's see what happens next. I still think he is at the least going to be very good.

He's also bad at every other aspect of the job, including like basic balance and coordination.

I guess Chicago couldn't bear to have him on their roster.

It was a bear necessity to get rid of him.

He’s good at volleyball though...perfect body for it to, just not a football player, I’d look to move him and recoup something.

I'm willing to give Gesicki a chance, but I just don't know how you fix the type of problems that he seemed to have. Is increasing his lower body strength and putting on weight going to be a solution? Guy needs to increase his balance and coordination somehow along with all of that.

It just seemed to me that Gase and Co last season were trying to turn him into Gronk, when that was an idiotic choice. They should have been trying to make him into Jimmy Graham. We'll see what happens with the new group.

I don’t believe that at all when five a chance in college he was a difference maker. While not the same caliber a complete mess like you seem to believe he is wouldn’t have been dominating on that level in a big program!

He has some issue but he can grow into a beast with the proper coaching / scheme IMHO

He already have a last name with a G so we’re set

Jimmy Graham, Tony gonzales, Gronk see we have a G so we’re good!

I think it's worth remembering that perhaps more than any other position, TE's are an absolute wasteland for rookie production, but years 2-3 often see significant leaps. We could look for a cheap backup, but we will almost certainly roll with the Big G and Smythe and see what a new staff can do with them.

I’m with you, I said predraft those things were hopeless, and I still believe that.. he did nothing to show me any different.
It’s not his fault, he was overrated..

He’s a very niche role player imo..I would just look to cut my losses and see if there was another team as high as Grier was on him..

Did you know that in a relative snap basis the He was held in to block more than any tight end in football?

That’s about as dumb a coaching move as I’ve ever seen..

I remember someone saying that. Its such a bizarre choice that I can't wrap my head around it. He should have been running pass routes almost all of the time. Until he's used that way, I don't see how we can say that we have an idea about how good he is at it. We all expect him to suck as a blocker.

If you cut bait on Gesicki based on his performance under Gase and his ridiculous coaching, it will be a huge mistake. Mark my words.

Someone needed to be in to block. The line wasn't doing it.

Hopefully this new group in charge

    A) Makes the OL a much bigger priority and
    B) Chooses players to stay in to block who.....can block.

Asking players like Gesicki and Stills to be blockers on a lot of the plays is.....not smart.

What I didn't quite get is you draft to TE's. One has a strong suit of being a great blocker and the other is a true seam threat TE. So what do we do? The blocker goes out running routes and the Pass catcher stays in and blocks. :headwall: Yeah. That makes sense.

Does nothing to explain why a mediocre at best player on another team getting cut has legs. And now I’m part of the problem!

Ha. MB. I originally thought the same thing. I saw the thread when it was first posted and read maybe the first few posts and moved on. I kept seeing it active and thought the same exact thing as you. I then read it a bit to see if people could actually still be discussing Sims and then saw thar it morphed into a Gesicki debate. That's why it went on.

Btw, If I ever get more time to do so, I have my 2 cents to throw into the Gesicki debate. Ha, Buenos noche.
