I love the idea, but hate that execution, given all of his problems and all of the other good defensive players in the draft. Let him be someone else's headache and PR mess.

But yeah, I dream of getting 24 and 27 from Oakland for 13 if they want the QB that's there!

For sure. It's definitely dependent on who's actually available at 13, so I think they're probably keeping themselves open to all outcomes. There are probably 5-6 guys they have targeted and if any of them falls then we pull the trigger at 13.

Grier and Flores have both spoken about getting good value with players, so obviously they don't want to overspend on a player, either with money or draft picks.

You can't be talking about Rosen or AZ.

Yes, AZ had a bad oline, but Miami, for example, was just as bad and yet Rosen made Brock look like Unitas. And if I'm not mistaken Rosen was throwing to a WR who will be enshrined in Canton 5 years after he retires and is still top 3-5 in the league.

I haven't seen anyone use Rosen's stats to prove anything. Why would they when they can just watch 13 games and see how poorly he played?

I dont agree that LF is still top 3-5, but i agree with the sentiment. He had weapons. People acting as if he didnt. He had a **** offensive line sure, but he showed little to no ability to over come pressure, whether in a Brady or Manning like manner(getting rid of ball very quickly) or in a Wilson or Rodgers manner. Pass rush is too good in this league to not do one or the other as a QB. That is not to say he will never develop it. But it was a cause for concern coming out, he never got better in college at handling pressure. Im not banking on it happening in the NFL either.

Just read on Rotoworld three teams interested in Rosen, none are the Dolphins. Here is the article:

Those three teams are the Chargers, Giants and Patriots. It makes sense as Philip Rivers, Tom Brady and Eli Manning are all nearing the finish line and Rosen would be an ideal successor for any of the three. Per Klatt, one team has already offered Arizona a second-round pick for Rosen, though the Cardinals are apparently holding out for a first-rounder. With newly-minted coach Kliff Kingsbury making no effort to hide his deep infatuation with reigning Heisman-winner Kyler Murray, the Cardinals may not have much leverage in talks for Rosen. The UCLA alum labored through a difficult rookie season in 2018, though coaching turnover and a weak supporting cast were at least partially to blame for his struggles. The 22-year-old would probably benefit from a change of scenery.

    Guess Miami's not pursuing him.

Wonder what the chances are that Gruden trades Carr and then drafts either Murray or Haskins? If so, I wonder even more what the chances are that Miami could be a potential trade partner?

    Hmmm....

I think the fact that nobody is looking at him to start immediately is the the standout on where most teams currently are in regards to Rosen. Needs time to be able to sit behind an established player, and if he evolves into something then great, if not then most people will have probably forgotten what you gave up to grab him.

I wonder what teams have seen that is turning them off on the guy? Physically he seems to have all the tools, so it must be something else. It's probably what dooms all the other NFL QB's who have the physical tools, but still can't manage it.

I would love for them to go for an edge rusher with the first and maybe QB with the second. I really like Burns from Florida St. J. Allen will be gone by our pick. However, judging from what NE does; they don't prioritize edge rushers as much as they do DTs. Flores was a D coach for them, so I can see them going DT with the first pick. Easton Stick is a QB I would like to see them go for with the second.

Going by what Zierlein said about him in his draft report, I would say he is adequate physically for today's NFL. He was taken #10, so as I said before something is amiss with the guy mentally. I have said I don't like him for us as our QB because of his personality, but I think the Patriots could make use of him. Perhaps there is a conspiracy going on here where the Patriots get Rosen for a 7th rounder and a can of beans.

I for one don't think so. He is also a visual thrower meaning he needs to see space before he commits his motion...his arm angle is all over the place ...... he has a long stride and slow arm...he also has a tendency to drop his elbow from the little I have seen...he does not anticipate real well and has issues timing up vertically....on the plus side he is huge with a big arm and fairly athletic for a big chunk of man.......and the little I saw he does have at least a conceptual understanding and a bit of touch in him.....he is what he is IMHO and he is a developmental guy with a lot of work to do...far from NFL ready but has a shot to develop I guess because go his arm and size. I think he is draftable give or take somewhere around 180-220.

For me, I am ok with us drafting or trading for any guy who has a high football IQ. I believe that any QB could have all the physical gifts in the world and if they don't understand what the defense is doing and how to exploit it eventually defenses will figure out how to stop them. With that said, if Jones is a guy like that ( and I don't know) then I would be ok with taking him.

Note: I assume Fitzpatrick has a high IQ, but IMO his risk taking hampers his advantage. Don't get me wrong. I like risk takers, but the risks have to be taken in context. I have said it before. I get that Fitz is having fun, and to him having fun is taking risks. However, if he could just pull back on the reigns a little bit and stay within the system and his limitations, then he could be a guy like Dilfer if surrounded with the right guys. - I am not we shouldn't draft a QB in the next year or so.

I wouldn't be against a trade back, but we would need to be certain that we aren't passing up a really good player. By the time we are drafting I expect the following players to be off the board:

    - (6): Kyler Murray (QB), Jawaan Taylor (OT), Nick Bosa (EDGE), Josh Allen (EDGE), Quinnen Williams (DT), Devin White (LB)

After that I'd expect these players to mostly be off the board but it is possible that one or more of them could be available to us:

    - (7): Dwayne Haskins (QB), Drew Lock (QB), Jonah Williams (OT), TJ Hockenson (TE), Montez Sweat (EDGE), Rashan Gary (DL), Ed Oliver (DT)

Obviously the quarterbacks are tough to project because if the Giants and Broncos - the most likely candidates in the top ten - decide to go offense or defense, and no one else decides to trade up like ourselves and Washington, then potentially one of those two prospects could be available when we draft at 13. For me, if Haskins or Lock are there at 13 we might find it too hard to pass on one of those guys. Yes next year's class does look good on paper, but if Fromm and Tua go back to college, I am not convinced Justin Herbert is someone to wait for.

Montez Sweat could be available on the basis that a heart condition came up at the combine. Will that scare teams off? I doubt it, but we've seen health concerns lead to falls in the past. If he's there at 13 we should hand the card in with his name.

Rashan Gary could fall to us because he hasn't produced as expected in college. Sure teams will love his upside and athleticism, but he's a risky draft pick. Being totally honest I would pass on him at 13 if he's available.

Ed Oliver would arguably be the top defensive tackle in some drafts, but the depth of this year's class sees him fall down a bit. I think he will likely be gone by 13, but if he's there at 13 I would again be quick to hand in the card.

Jonah Williams is probably my favourite OL prospect in this year's class. He can potentially be a ten year pro bowl/all pro caliber OL player. He could slot in at RT or move inside. Either way he projects to be a safe draft pick.

TJ Hockenson is an unlikely draft selection for us considering we have recently drafted tight ends. I guess it's possible that the Patriots influence might see a bit of Gronkowski in them and might want that here. If he's as good as his college tape suggests, he can be a pro bowl/all pro tight end. If Gesicki is purely a pass catching tight end and doesn't improve his blocking, and he can see the field, that's a potentially tough duo to guard.

So to bring this back to my original point, if we trade back we would need to be certain that passing on one of the above players is in our best interest. This is before considering some of the fringe top 12 picks like Christian Wilkins (DT), DK Metcalf (WR), Brian Burns (EDGE), Clelin Ferrell (EDGE), Andre Dillard (OT), Cody Ford (OG/OT) and Devin Bush (LB). It is possible that one or more of them go in the top twelve depending on how teams have their boards organised. In honesty any of that next group would be worth 13th overall selections. Now I doubt we go tight end or receiver, but there are plenty of day one starters available at 13 who could become pro bowl/all pro players.

Would we be happy passing on them in order to add a second or third round pick?

Let's say we move back with the Eagles and they give us one of their second round picks to go along with their 25th overall pick. We'll be in the range of the likes of Byron Murphy (CB), DeAndre Baker (CB), Marquise Brown (WR), Jerry Tillery (DT), Jachai Polite (EDGE), Josh Jacobs (RB), Garrett Bradbury (OL), Jefferey Simmons (DT). Some of those names are appealing and could be good additions for us. NBC currently have Greg Little (OT) going at 53 and Zach Allen (EDGE) at 57 in their mock draft. I guess adding a combination of Polite and Little or Bradbury and Allen would be appealing for our rebuild, but we would be passing up on a borderline top ten prospects if we trade down.

This is before considering who is going to want to trade up to 13. I guess the Giants might want to go above Washington if they pass on a quarterback at 6 and their guy is available at 13 (e.g. Daniel Jones?), but outside of that option I'm not sure teams are going to be rushing to trade up. Ok it's a deep DL class, there's some good OL talent as well, and two or three draft able tight ends, but realistically I don't see a team trading up for our pick unless someone unexpected falls. And if that unexpected player is that good why aren't we picking them? Let's face it, if Montez Sweat unexpectedly falls like Tunsil did, we should be snapping them up. Yes more draft picks are nice but I would rather have one really good player over two good players or one good player and decent player.

With that said, if a trade down does happen I wouldn't be against it as long as we get good value. I don't want to see us trade back for a later first round pick and only get a 3rd or a 4th in return. If we get a 2nd rounder I'd be ok with it, but anything less than that and I'd stay at 13 and draft the BPA.

Much more accomplished evaluators than me have said that's a massive reach - at 13, we need the best DE available (unless one of the Devon's fall)

With respect - no way - not in 10,000,000 years. We have a patch-job QB right now in Fitzpatrick, and two other young QB's. The only thing we need now is a legitimate, long-term solution, a 'franchise' QB. Jones in no way looks like he will be that sort of QB, so I don't see how the team can gamble our highest pick on a player like that, especially when there are other much, much, better looking prospects available next year, and the year after that. On top of that we've cut a lot of our better talent at various positions in order to get cheaper, and younger. We can't waste high picks on project gambles.

..from a write up you posted in that thread:

"When Jones is tasked with non-schemed reads where he is challenged to survey coverage, make the right decision and deliver and accurate throw the results can be underwhelming. Jones does not showcase the ability to throw with anticipation and his ball placement needs to be more precise. And when Jones is forced to speed up his process, find a quick platform and make throws under duress he is noticeably uncomfortable.

It was disappointing to not see more growth from Jones in year one to year two as a starter. In 23 more passing attempts as a sophomore, Jones’ completion percentage dipped from 62.8 percent to 56.7 percent while throwing two less touchdowns and three more interceptions. His passing yards per game fell from 236 to 207".

Ewww. Not good. Those are some of the essential qualities of being a good NFL QB.

I don't want to tell anyone else what to think, but the hate he gets is mind boggling to me. I get that some people want VERY different things in their QB than I do, but for me he's the model of what I look for. And further, if the Fins were able to trade this year's second round pick for Rosen, and then use the other picks this year and next on building the team up around him.....I would be more excited about the Fins since Shula was coach. It would also flip my switch from totally in the bag for tanking in 2019 to totally being excited for every single game.
