Oh sh**, totally forgot what happened in S3E6. Mellisandre visits The Brotherhood and leaves with her party carrying away Gendry. Arya is obviously fuming about it, so Beric Dondarrion [who was resurrected like 7 times by the Lord of Light] tells her, “We serve the Lord of Light, and the Lord of Light needs this boy”. Needs him? To what end? Mellisandre then says to Gendry, “You’re more than they can ever be [the Brotherhood]. They’re just foot soldiers in the Great War. You will make Kings rise and fall.”

Is Gendry the one the Gods covet to sit on the Iron Throne and ensure that the cycle of life & death is properly maintained?

Incidentally, Mellisandre immediately then foreshadows the slain victims of Arya, “I see darkness in you, and in that darkness I see eyes staring back at me. Brown eyes, blue eyes, green eyes. Eyes you’ll shut forever”.

    Brown eyes: Walder Frey, Baelish
    Blue eyes: Night King
    Green eyes: Dany?

Hmph, maybe she does kill Dany. How bout if Arya somehow slays Dany, steals her f***in face, and rides Drogon into his death?! Holy s**t balls that would be awesome.

This leads me to think about Arya and how she has been influenced this season by characters that have been shown the way by the Lord of Light. Beric and the Hound protect her in the Long Night ep and lead her to the room where Melisandre tells her to go kill the Night King (...and blue eyes). All three of those characters are now dead, served their purpose by helping Arya. The Hound even helped her in the last episode by telling her to go away while he does his thing. He protects her again. She surely would have died if she stayed with him (the castle was going to crumble). Does Jon have to influence Arya in the final episode one last time to serve his purpose? hmm... indeed.

Dany looks saddened over the throne.
Drogon looks like he may be being warged.

I don't think that is Drogon. It's the Night King's dragon (blue eyes)

I don't think Bran is going to warg into a dragon. When the 3ER told him he would fly... that's, to me, an inference to Bran becoming the 3ER and flying as ravens.

    Good catch, duh.

But what about Dany though? She obviously wouldn’t look that way, nor dress that way, if she had just won the throne, so is there some symbolism involved with her appearing sad while standing in front of it? I mean, they told her how to pose, right?

Finally put myself through the torture of watching the latest episode. To say one positive thing about it, the cinematography is amazing. That was some pretty destruction porn. Great CGI blood. The fight scene with the Hound and the Mountain, with the juxtaposition of Arya was amazing. Wow! Even though Arya being there was completely dumb and out of character, but who cares about character and writing. It looked cool and that is what mattered.

Man did the show do Jaime wrong.
Man did the show do Dany wrong.
Man did the show do Tyrion wrong.
Man did the show do all the characters wrong. At least Davos became an awesome sword fighter. A long way from his smuggling days.

Turns out Cercies big plan for chopping off that girls head was, "I am delusional." Does kind of fit the books. If I completely dismiss what I saw the last episode, this episode is much better.

I have come to the conclusion that the Last Jedi is not a good comparison for this season. Mostly because The Last Jedi is a good movie. Flawed, but good. It is more like The Last Airbender, if the Last Airbender had good acting, cgi action, and cimematography.

The casting chair and the person who is lining up the shots deserve all of the awards.

Dont think she posed for that shot. Rather, it looks like a photoshop of her from an earlier episode. What was the one where she has that vision and its really cold in the throne room? Isnt that dress from when it was given to her by that one fake rich guy? Later in that season she goes to get her baby dragons back from the necromancer keep thing? Heh its late and im not looking up the names here.

People are saying Jaime might not be dead.

They are basing it on GoT actors' social media accounts. None of them have done their typical "bye it was great working with you" type stuff for Nikolaj Coster-Waldau.

Also, what if Arya is now dead?

Sorry, little late to the party.

Couple issues I had with the previous episode (and I'm sorry if you guys hashed this over already).

The Mountain has been an automaton since he's been resurrected, able to be directed easily by Cersei and Qyburn, now all of the sudden he defies his masters and seems to care against this grudge against his brother? Didn't seem very consistent to me. Both Qyburn's death and the Hound-Mountain fight were born from this inconsistency. It made the whole thing bittersweet for me.

I have no qualms with Daenarys' turn of fate (character-wise), I thought that was possible for her character- she had begun to feel alone and defiant as the Targaryen rumor began to spread and showed mercilessness in her conquest before. I thought Cersei's death was fitting- sort of a whimpering out after such grandstanding and an immense amount of hubris, the cave-in was kind of a miserable and dishonorable way to go out. No problem there (she still did seem kind of overconfident to the point of stupidity leading up to the siege but waddyagunnado.)

Everyone's seen the memes with Euron being sneaky enough to take down a dragon with his fleet, and then this past week they can't hit the broad side of a barn and get taken apart within minutes. Seemed like kind of a rush job. His fight with Jaime was ridiculous and I don't think that bad blood between those two had been emphasized enough up to that point to warrant those two being at each other's "final showdown". Felt it convenient that Euron was literally like the own survivor to wash up after the fleets were destroyed. Pretty cartoony.

Thought it was a bit of a curveball to have Tyrion send Jaime in to sway Cersei and then the town gets ripped up anyways. No real problem with that, Game of Thrones, when at its best, delivers tragic circumstances like that all of the time, and they typically make sense/are plausible.

It seems like they're kind of just going through a checklist for this final season.

I thought it was funny watching Cersei just walk past them. I wish she was going like, "Um yea, escuse me. I don't need to be here for this."
Though her, "Stay by my side" didn't make much sense. Going out and attacking the Hound would be the best thing for the Mountain to do at that point. That is what the red shirts did.

I did not think that was a curveball. I did enjoy the scene. It was a good sendoff between Tyrion and Jaime. I always liked their relationship. It was the closest this episode got to the magic of the first few seasons. Though I was confused as to why Jamie didn't like the people. He killed a king and ruined his reputation for life to save the people. Maybe if they threw in a line about him saving everyone and no one caring or something. I also liked how that was a payback to when Jaime saved Tyrion. (Something that only makes sense in the show and not the book, but I am not complaining about that. See, I am able to separate the books for the show)

You know what, I’m starting to think the main reasons why the narcissistic Dany enjoyed aiding slaves is bc:

    A) she LOVED their adoration.
    B) it provided an excuse to conquer people, carry out her desire for bloodshed & crispy critters.

According to D&D, RR had three holy crap moments. One was Hodor, and the other was Shireen burning.

Is there one more holy **** moment, or was it Dany hitting Kings Landing with a chair.

    I really like this one.

As someone who has read the books and analyzed them way too much, Dany's heel turn was a possibility based on what was shown. And maybe when Winds of Winter comes out and when we finally perfect reanimating dead brains and putting them in robot bodies, and A Dream of Spring is done, I am sure her downfall will be tastefully, masterfully, and frustratingly done.

I was okay with the Mountain breaking free vs his brother. My thought is everything he was asked to do by Cersei and Qyburn was already something he was akin to do anyway. so, there would be no struggle there.

I find things in that video bizarre.

The guy is saying there's no character development for Dany, yet thinks her heel turn should also mean that Arya should have one...and Sansa...etc. Which is the opposite of writing different and unique characters...you know....character development.

Dany has always had the madness bubbling underneath. Always. But she's also always had handlers reigning her back in. Always.

The closest thing she has to an advisor now is Grey Worm and he wants blood. The only people trying to reign the crazy are Jon, who has a better claim to the throne. He also could have stopped her if he would have proven he could marry her. The only other person is Tyrion and she doesn't trust or have faith in him anymore.

Basically we see Dany literally decide between two tactics...love and fear. She tried to give the love tactic time to hold, but it just didn't. And she didn't just start trying it with Jon, she's been trying it for awhile. But that is all it ever was for her, was a tactic. Even with Drogo back in S1. She may have loved him in the end, but she never loved anyone like she loved powerr.

Yes, they had to get her from Point A to Point B, but that is every writer with every major character.

In Batman: The Killing Joke, we learn that one potential origin story of the Joker is that he was a man that had one bad day and lost it. That was considered a great story. Yet, here we have a woman with a family history of madness due to incest, showing cracks in her sanity for years, loses two of her kids, her surrogate father, her best friend is beheaded in front of her, the man she loves has a better claim to her dream and now wont be with her, she sacrificed everything to fight a war with the white walkers and the people that were there loved Jon more for it.....and when she loses it, we are supposed to act like that came out of nowhere.

To others that is just lazy writing and terrible character development.

I saw nothing in her past to show she will murder children let alone a surrendering army

I don’t think it’s up to interpretation. Having just rewatched the show, I can say with confidence that Dany’s been a raging narcissist since the beginning. It’s always been just a matter of time before she snapps.

You know how they said about Ted Bundy, “Oh but he seemed so normal as a child and through college. We didn’t see it coming at all”? Well, we literally did see it coming w/ Dany. It was there in her actions; it was there in her words; it was there in her psyche & values system; and it was there in a bunch of foreshadowing.

There may have not been cracks yet per day, but there were vulnerabilities in her psyche, and there were also uber extreme goals & aspirations that were virtually destined to result in cracking.

Dany’s narcissistic road to flambéing the capital:
    • robust dreams of power & success.
      • obsessive desire to conquer a far away land and anyone who stands in her way.
    • immense degree of entitlement.
      • actually believes that the throne & Westeros were “taken from her” and that it’s her rightful place to take it back. Not only was she NOT the rightful heir but Westeros isn’t even here land. Her Targaryen family’s rightful place is Essos. Westeros basically took back what her ancestors stole. Ironic that she’s allegedly about freeing slaves but supports her family's tyranny and conquering of slave-free lands that don’t belong to them.
    • arrogant sense of self-importance
      • See above, plus her belief that she’s “the chosen one”.
    • Hugely braggadocious.
      • When you give yourself a name that’s like 600 characters long, you’re a raging narcissist.
    • OBSESSED W/ REVENGE at all costs.
    • inflated sense of accomplishments.
      • frequently acted like her future endeavors had already resulted in victories & accomplishments, and multiple people called her out on it. “You need to assist me or else my army will lay waste to you!” ..... “Uhh what army? I see no army & I see no ships.” “The ones I’m gonna have!”
    • condemns those who don’t offer unquestioned compliance.
    • steeped in impatience, hostility, rage, anger, and feelings of being slighted. Plus instances of paranoia.
    • difficulty regulating emotions & behaviors.
    • bouts of depression/angst for falling short of perfection.
    • inability to handle criticism.
    • basks in adoration from others.
    • struggles w/ relationships.
    • IT’S IN HER DNA. Daddy was the Mad King who tried to do EXACTLY to the capital what Dany succeeded in doing- burn it to the ground, with all its homes, men, women, children too.
    • Mommy & psycho Daddy were also brother & sister. Where have we seen this combo produce highly narcissistic & volatile offspring before? Cersei & Jamie making Joffrey.
    • Numerous times was she urged to dial back the revenge/rage. On top of that, rarely did she listen.
    • If Dany had an army & ships to begin with, she would’ve never preoccupied herself w/ freeing slaves. Not to mention, each “slave freeing” represented an opportunity to build her desired army.
    • Dany could’ve lived happily ever after in any 1 of the Essos cities she liberated. But that wasn’t good enough for her. She HAD TO HAVE the Throne of lands that weren’t hers and which didn’t even have slavery. How many innocent lives, including the ones she “freed”, were sacrificed in HER SELFISH QUEST to proceed beyond Essos and conquer the Iron Throne? The Unsullied had no business in Westeros, nor dying there either. Ditto for any other Essos slaves who joined her along the way. If Dany TRULY cared about them, she wouldn’t have put them in the unnecessary position to sacrifice their lives for her own personal reasons that have nothing to do with them. She liberated them; that should’ve been the end of it.
S2E4 "When my dragons are grown, we will take back what was stolen from me and destroy those who have wronged me. We will lay waste to armies and burn cities to the ground. Turn us away and we will burn you first". **Whoa. This is what Dany tells people who simply refuse to open their OWN gates to her bc she herself refuses to show proof of the dragons she claims to have.

S2E6: "I am not your little princess," said Dany, provoked. "I am Daenerys Stormborn of the blood of old Valyria and I WILL TAKE WHAT IS MINE, WITH FIRE & BLOOD I WILL TAKE IT!!" Yikes, possessive much? Violent much? Westeros isn’t and has never been HERS.

S1 prophecy: “Fierce as a storm this prince will be. His enemies will tremble before him, and their wives will weep tears of blood and rend their flesh in grief. The bells in his hair will sing his coming, and the milk men in the stone tents will fear his name. The prince is riding, and he shall be the stallion who mounts the world.” Missandei later informs us that the proper translation of that word is prince OR princess, that it means both.

S2E7: Cersei says, “Half the Targaryens went mad, didn’t they? What’s the saying? ‘Every time a Targaryen is born, the gods flip a coin.’”

S4E4: Daenerys executes hundreds of nobles from Meereen, but when she learns in E6 that some were innocent, she doesn’t seem to care. Not to mention, in the slave cities, you’re either a slave or a slave owner. You don’t really have a choice. If you were born into ownership then that’s what you were. There were plenty of benevolent slave owners, ones who likely would’ve never advocated for slavery if born in a free city... but Dany didn’t give those people a chance.

S4E5: Dany says to Jorah, “You counseled me against rashness once in Qarth. I didn’t listen. It all worked out well.”

S4E7: Jorah again tries to curb Dany’s darker inclinations. — “I wouldn’t be here to help you if Ned Stark had done to me what you want to do to the masters of Yunkai”.

S5E5: Dany executes even more Meereen noblemen in attempt to scare the rest into submission.

S6E6: her love, Daario, puts it bluntly: “You weren’t made to sit on a chair in a palace. You’re a conquerer, Daenerys Stormborn.”

S6E6: Dany tells the Dothraki, “Will you kill my enemies in their iron suits and tear down their stone houses?”
apparently speaking about Westeros. Are there slaves in Westeros to be freed? Was Dany herself enslaved in Westeros? Did those people in iron suits and their houses wrong her that I’m unaware of? She grew up in Essos. That’s where her wrongdoers are from. The people of Westeros aren’t even her enemy, but she’s declared them as such simply bc it’s her determination to rule their land.

S6E9: Dany clashes with Tyrion over whether to destroy a city. Tyrion compares her plan to something her father, the Mad King, would do.

S7E4: Dany hastily crispifies Randyll & Dickon Tarly on the spot when they refuse to bend the knee. More levelheaded individuals would have imprisoned them.

S1E9 FORESHADOWING: Maestor Aegon speaks to Jon about honor.

Aegon is basically preparing the viewers for the fact that a feeling of great loss or deprival will make people loss honor, hence the Watch’s vow for celibacy.

Honorable individuals who take a guilty man’s life do so only out of a sense of duty and take no pleasure in it..... whereas Dany LOVES watching them burn!!... dating back to S1. However, when Ned & Rob Stark were required to behead wrongdoers, they didn’t enjoy it.

S1E10: an episode after Aemon forewarns us about characters losing their honor for the sake of revenge, Grand Maestor then essentially tells us, through a story about Dany’s father, that she herself may be predisposed to losing her honor. We’re further prepared for this reality by witnessing Rickard Karstark slaughter 2 innocent Lannister boys to satisfy his revenge for the loss of his own sons.

Had the writers prepared us any more for Dany turning into her father, then there wouldn’t have been any mystery about whether or not she would. They gave us enough to realize that she could easily turn into the Mad Queen at any given moment.

Dany is without a doubt a power-crazed revenge-consumed narcissistic. That’s all we need to know that she’s perfectly capable of turning mad.

A Targaryen all alone in the world is a terrible thing...

Dany is alone, without her love, without her father figure and without her best friend.

None of what you wrote makes sense for her to flip a switch and become a child murderer. Especially after she won

So let's become a murderer of innocent children.

    Yup. That makes sense.

Lots of people saw this coming. Either they made it up or you just didn't see it.

Sure it does. Defeat has never been enough for her. She’s always had to put an exclamation point on victory. It’s her MO to want to be feared, and that holds especially true in the foreign lands of Westeros [where she already had Drogon make hot waste of Randyll & Dickon Tarly for the sole purpose of instilling fear].

This was foreshadowed in like S4 when Dany mentions a deep concern that she won’t be able to win over the people of Westeros [for good reason], so she says that she’ll just have to make them fear her instead. Dany’s a conquerer; that’s what she does. She had a pretty little facade for it in Essos b/c killing slave owners has a comfy ring to justifying the means, but in Westeros there are no slave-owners to kill to satisfy her purpose of instilling fear.

Do you honestly believe that those innocent citizens of King’s Landing were cheering Dany on to reduce some of them to casualties of war during her selfish attempt to conquer their city? No, they wanted no part of Dany & her dragon, which means they pose a threat to her ambition. So she put the fire to them to turn their anger into fear, and to simply eliminate their threat altogether. If she has any compassion & empathy towards people, it’s only to slaves, and the people of King’s Landing aren’t slaves.

You realize that the murder of innocent children & women do happen, right?... especially back then. What do you think the pasts of all those guilty individuals look like? Are they littered with instances of overwhelmingly obvious foreshadowing of the horror to come? In every single one of their cases, the individual hadn’t killed a single woman or child up until the point of his/her first victim. If we stop the story of Ted Bundy at the age of 24, he was apparently a great guy, and with farrrr less foreshadowing in his past than Daenerys Targaryen.

Dany thoroughly ENJOYS slaughtering & burning people. That in and of itself tells us that she generally both lacks compassion/empathy [at least when her entitlement is involved] and possesses the capacity to do what she did if the emotional stressors are activated to trigger her, which they were.
