I figured that I'd start a new thread for the MCU, now that Endgame and Far From Home are in the rear view mirror, and the FOX acquisition is in the books. Lots of new things happening, even if it'll be a while before we actually get any more content to watch. https://geektyrant.com/news/disney-...ol-will-alternate-between-r-and-pg-13-ratings News is that Disney is likely to keep Deadpool's stand alone movies R rated, while having him behave himself more in PG-13 Avengers style movies. To me, that makes sense and is the best plan going forward. The still unanswered question is whether his own movies will be MCU canon or not. I'm sure they could find a clever way to say otherwise if they want to. https://geektyrant.com/news/noah-ha...done-and-waiting-to-see-if-marvel-moves-on-it Writer/Director Noah Hawley really, really wants to make a Dr Doom movie for the MCU. He's planned everything out and sent it their way, and is waiting for a response. There has also been news that there will in fact be Marvel shows on Disney+ and Hulu that are not part of the MCU or its canon. For me, time will tell if I watch them or not, based on that.
https://geektyrant.com/news/marvel-is-reportedly-developing-another-big-series-for-disney This article is really just informed speculation and guesswork, but the most important part is that Marvel is absolutely working on more shows for Disney+ than the ones that have been announced. Probably an entire Phase 5 slate.
IMHO, X-Men should be a Disney+ series. I think a long form TV series format would better serve those characters and stories than movies would.
That's not a bad idea. And there's no reason that there can't be both series and movies. Heck, a top notch production, 12-episode per season X-Men show would be worth the price of admission for Disney+ on it's own! I think that my personal preference would be to have several of the characters introduced in someone else's movie, then go to the show, and then after that have them a larger part of an Avengers style group movie, then back to another season of the show, and so forth...
Depends on how long you expect to live! The next Phase is only expected to be two years. The one after that, probably three more.
Looks like DIsney and Sony are butting heads over profit sharing with Spider Man. Spiderman could be out of MCU https://www.theguardian.com/film/20...nematic-universe-after-disney-split-with-sony
Hopefully, cooler heads will prevail and they'll figure something out. From what I read, it looks like Disney asked for the Moon in the new negotations, with a huge increase in their share of the profits. Sony told them to go to Hell. We'll see if they both come back to the table.
Apparently so. As is the director of the two movies. However, it was brought up in an article that I read that not only do they not own any of the other characters that Peter has been interacting with in the movies, they would basically have to totally ignore everything that's happened to him since becoming Spiderman as well. Is that realistic at all? My guess is that both sides are posturing, and will come back to the table.
They do not have the director. We will see. Rich people have HUGE egos. There was always a chance that Sony saw big money and feel like they have cracked the code, and Marvel/Disney thinks they are the reason all of the money was made.
Yup, i haven't read or pay attention to much but heard an interview on the radio saying Sony must feel pretty good with the recent Spider-verse hit and Venom making $800 Million. Why take 50/50 deal? Would suck for us MCU fans if in the future they can't mention anything about Spiderman/Parker.
https://geektyrant.com/news/marvel-...lk-moon-knight-and-ms-marvel-shows-for-disney Marvel has announced three new shows that are in production for Disney+. Little information was given, but its presumed that they'll be a part of Phase 5, and be live action. If they are MCU canon, then any of these characters could also show up in films as well.
https://geektyrant.com/news/some-ke...reprise-their-roles-in-multiple-disney-series Some cool casting news for the Disney+ shows. We knew that Emily VanCamp would be returning as Sharon Carter in Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Now, there's news that Kat Dennings (Darcy Lewis in Thor) and Randall Park (FBI Agent Jimmy Woo from Ant Man) will both be a part of Wandavision. Both are really good characters, and I'm excited to see them again. I absolutely love that characters from one movie or series in the MCU can pop up in another. And though its not surprising, its cool to know that Hayley Atwell will be returning as a voice actor on What If?
Also, I'm not especially familiar with She Hulk, but isn't she essentially a female version of Professor Hulk from Endgame? And given that, I wonder if they'll cast a tall, strong woman for the role and paint her green (like Zoe Saldana as Gamora) or whether they'll rely on CGI.
interesting crossover. cloak and dagger will be a part of The Runaways third season. The upcoming Season 3 of Hulu superhero series Marvel’s Runaways will include a crossover episode with the Freeform series Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger, Marvel Television and Hulu said Thursday. The news comes after Hulu said Runaways will return with its 10-episode third season on December 13. The Season 2 finale Cloak & Dagger aired earlier this year. https://deadline.com/2019/08/runaways-cloak-and-dagger-crossover-episode-marvel-plans-1202658705/ Deadline No details yet on the subject of the Marvel collision, which was unveiled in a video today (see it below). Both series are currently available on Hulu, which is run by Freeform’s parent Disney.
https://geektyrant.com/news/hailee-steinfeld-offered-role-of-kate-bishop-in-marvels-hawkeye-series Actress and pop star Hailee Steinfeld is being eyed to play Kate Bishop in the Hawkeye series, and presumably for some time after that in the MCU. She's an interesting choice, but not one that I'm opposed to.
She was incredible in the True Grit remake. Was actually the best part of that movie. So she has chops. As long as the movie arm of the MCU is involved with the decision, then I’m a 100% confident. The TV arm has only one casting error on their resume (Iron Fist) so it’s not like they have a bad track record either.
https://geektyrant.com/news/disney-...rvel-animated-shows-like-x-men-and-spider-man A variety of Marvel cartoons will be on Disney+ from the 70s through the 90s, including Spiderman and the X-Men.
The agreement also calls for him to be in exactly one other Marvel movie as well. That's lead some to speculate that he'll be written out of the MCU at that point.
So apparently, while Tom Holland will be playing Spiderman in both the MCU and Sony, they may not be the same character going forward. Rather, what happens in the MCU universe won't effect what happens in the Sony universe, and vice versa. Which is....so petty and stupid. But at least knowing that, I don't have to waste my time seeing the Sony movies.
https://geektyrant.com/news/brie-la...e-made-it-clear-they-want-an-all-female-movie Brie Larsen says that she and other women starring in MCU movies have made it clear to Kevin Feige that they are very interested in making an all-female team up movie, if he can make it happen. Not linked in that article, I saw yesterday where Fiege says that Ant Man 3 isn't in preproduction, but can still definately happen at some point. Here's hoping that they do!
https://geektyrant.com/news/marvel-studios-will-release-up-to-four-movies-a-year-moving-forward Looks like they're planning on releasing up to four MCU movies a year in the near future, in addition to the Disney+ TV projects. There will only be two in 2020 - Black Widow and The Eternals. But 2021 is slated to have four - Shang Chi, Dr Strange, Spiderman, and Thor, and it looks like that should be the model from that point forward. I'm pumped!
https://geektyrant.com/news/marvel-...ant-man-3-with-director-peyton-reed-returning Ant Man 3 is happening I love the series and its part in the MCU, and I'm delighted that they're giving them a third movie, where they'll likely both wrap up some very loose ends, and set things in motion that can also continue in the greater MCU.
https://geektyrant.com/news/michael...n-to-ant-man-3-and-says-it-will-shoot-in-2021 Michael Douglas confirms that he's returning for Ant Man 3, and that it will shoot in 2021. You would think that they'll likely tie up the story for Hank and Janet in this one. I'm curious to see what if any kind of connections they'll have with Wanda and Vision, with Randal Park playing Agent Woo in their series in some capacity. It would be cool for him to even have a few lines that connect the two franchises.
https://geektyrant.com/news/marvels...o-doctor-strange-in-the-multiverse-of-madness Interestingly, it looks like the Loki series on Disney+ will tie into the next Dr Strange movie. Also, not surprisingly, watching these shows is pretty much required if you want to keep up to date on what's happening in the forthcoming movies, with the shows being canon and characters having important developments in between films.
I've been waiting to see if Comcast is nice enough to give it to my family free, like they do Netflix. Failing that, I'm going to see if my TVs get an update with the app before we commit.
let us know if comcast does. I'm pretty close to canceling Direct TV in favor of comcast. never use direct TV (<10% TV time). not worth it just for Sunday Ticket anymore
I've pretty much decided to part ways with Comcast (even though I've only had them for 13 months) when I'm able to. My local power company is bringing gigbit fiber to all of their customers over the next five years. Once that's an option, we're just going to go without cable and do the streaming stuff. Other than live sports and local news, that's mostly what we do already.
