He just is. I don't care about the championships. I don't care about the divisional success. Those aren't QB stats. Aaron Rodgers is a better QB on a worse team. If you don't see that you're either not looking or not thinking. Aaron Rodgers has done, and is still doing, that thing everyone says a great QB needs to do - carrying his team. Tom Brady doesn't do that anywhere near as often because his teams are better. Maybe he could do it, but he hasn't had to. Aaron Rodgers though? He's picked up a lame team and hiked it up a mountain several times. If Brady is the GOAT, Rodgers is the Mountain GOAT. One walks around a petting stall where everyone fawns over him. The other one regularly assails precipitous cliffs and those who look ask, "How on earth has he done that?!"
It's all subjective and depends on what you want to look at. We can easily say Marino was "better" than Brady, but in the end, it's Tom that has the rings. I think it's fair to say that if you disolved all rosters and held a league-wide draft (like you could do in old Madden games) that Brady probably isn't a high pick, or even a high QB pick. But ... the dude just keeps on winning, doing just enough. The arguing over GOATs and whose better just gets kind of old to me personally.
This season for sure the numbers are supporting that... Latest Quarterback Efficiency Index. The four worst of qualifiers are no surprise.
It can get old, but what's worse to me is the never-ending references to Brady as the GOAT. He's not. He's not even the best in his generation. And this is what I was talking about. Tom Brady hasn't won one single Lombardi trophy. The Patriots have. His rings show that he has contributed on multiple runs, but they say nothing of his significance in those runs. Of course, the rings don't say that he didn't carry the team to victory either. The point is, they're silent on the issue of just how good he is. They should be left out of the conversation.
They really can't and shouldn't. It's the entire point of the games, to reach the playoffs, get to the Super Bowl and win. You don't win as many as he has without being a superior QB. Talent-wise is he the greatest QB ever? No. But the wins, the playoff wins and SB wins count. They matter. It's what makes these conversations almost irritatingly pointless.
Again, it depends on subjective criteria. I find trying to piece together these types of lists in the NFL to be mostly folly. It's fine talk show fodder, but there are so many different variables. Talk to a non-Phin fan and ask them who is better between Marino and Brady, and most people likely say Brady. It's just not a conversation I love to have (being fully aware of the irony of getting into this conversation ..).
Understood, but to focus in, I'm not interested in whether Brady it better than Marino, or vice versa, but how good you consider Marino was considering that he didn't ever enjoy championship victory?
Brady has the benefit of being under and having being raised by the greatest coach in NFL history. Championships are also a team, coach, staff accomplishment. Aaron Rogers is clearly and most definitely the better individual QB.
That's because most fans don't know what they are watching. They see wins and think individual greatness. In a team sport that mentality is lazy and ignorant. Brady does NOTHING better than Brees, Rodgers, Manning, Marino, Mahomes, Young, or Montana...to name a few greats. He also doesn't do most things better than Watson, Eli, Newton, Flacco, and a number of other average to above average QB's. Sure, he does some things as well and even better, but mostly he's a lucky guy who was thrown into a great situation and has been playing in that same situation for 20 years. Of course he's better now than he was during the Pats' first 3 SB wins. He has never been the major piece in those wins, however. Ernie Adams, BB, their defense, and cheating have ALL been bigger factors than Brady. He currently has the 20th best passer rating in the league and the Pats are 7-0. The Pats don't need him now nor have they ever "needed" him. Sure, he's played great, at times, he is HoF worthy (with the cheating it's hard to say 100%)..he is not, however, the GOAT or anywhere near the GOAT.
lol, yeah.. I remember the days when I was young and dumb like you, my son. last 3 years I doubted it. ohhh, but I learned my lesson. Doubt it all you want. The league already made sure it will happen. But dont worry, Theyll lose this time
lol...Listen troll. Brady is done. They have a good record against bad teams. I didn't doubt them the last 3 years. You admittedly did. lol You're not very bright are you, daughter?
Has nothing to do with trolling. If the sport were real, they'd have been done a decade ago. The records of teams they beat is irrelevant. Everyone sucks in the parity era. Team A blows out team B , who blew out team C the week before. People who don't realize they are watching entertainment and not competition, are the ones who aren't bright.
*News Flash * Brady is not even the greatest in the NFL now, much less of all time. I've had countless discussions with people who call Brady the GOAT. They tell me Brady always makes players around him better even if they have mediocre talent. Now, we all know he's getting older but this offense is average at best right now. Why ? Because the talent at WR is minimal. Bradys receivers in the past( we all know who they are), helped him tremendously. Is Brady just good? No. Is Brady just great ? No Is/was Brady elite? Yes. But, the greatest of all time ? Thats a hell no. Not even close.
Doesn' matter. Theyll still be in this year' SB again. The story line in the flu and thsts why they sucked thst game lol. Theyll go 13-3 and still be in the SB
Then by your rationale , which I’m not necessarily disputing, is Marino the All Time King of Mountain GOATs?
Honestly, I'm not sure, I'd need to take a look at it. Marino mostly predated my watching NFL, so I never got to see him play a game. Just to clarify, the point of this thread wasn't to proclaim Rodgers the GOAT but to say that Brady isn't the GOAT because Rodgers is better than he is. I'm not sure who'd I'd declare to be the GOAT, if such a thing can even be determined.
Ok..look here. I'm a 54 year old adult. I realized a few years ago you'e watching predetermined entertainment. The Pats are going again this year. Regular season losses are just gambling Bair for playoffs.
Saying a Qb is the greatest because he has the most rings is easily the laziest take in all of sports commentary. I can't take anyone seriously that engages in that. Rings matter but saying someone has more so they are the best is laughably lazy, ridiculous commentary. MJ doesn't have the most rings in NBA history, no one argues that any other player is better because they have more rings. And that is a sport where a great individual can carry a team. Why people do it in football is odd to me. Its like someone came up with this silly, lazy take decades ago and no one has been able to get away from it.
How many times have I, and others, stated Brady is trash w/o elite play around him? He's come down to earth this year and has had several garbage games (for somebody who is called the GOAT). How many times have we said if he had pressure like other QBs, he wouldn't play any better than most:
I mean, he isnt trash without elite play. Hes also a dinosaur and you could see the regression starting last year. That said, he has always been incredible mortal under extreme pressure, but most QB are. Trust me, I'm not a huge fan of Brady. I believe either Peyton or Rodgers, heck even Drew Brees with Bill B would have been 100000x more scary.
Not so much trash...but trash compared to his "legend." I'd put several QBs ahead of him for "GOAT"ness… Fairly steep drop off w/o Gronk eh? And I agree 10000000%. Brees, Rodgers or Peyton on that team would be utterly ridiculous...especially if they could have been there the same time Brady has...double-digit super bowls minimum...if they'd have been OK with an extra speaker in the helmet, that is.
Is it me or does Aaron Rodgers seem to be at the beginning of his drop-off as well? I mean, he's 36...isn't that about when they start dropping off, usually? He's gonna need to be the classic Aaron Rodgers tomorrow, or they don't have a prayer. I'm not sure he has it in him...he hasn't looked great...at least his usual level of great. As far as "GOAT'ness" goes...we're seeing a kid now that may just end up in that spot, if he can keep going at least another 8 years...and that's Patrick Mahomes. His arm talent is plain ridiculous...any throw, at any time, from any angle, from anywhere on the field...crazy. In Marino's recent interview, he said the passer today that reminds him of himself, is Aaron Rodgers. And before Mahomes, I would have agreed...but I can't help but see Marino in Mahomes...only with much better mobility. Then again he has a top TE and absolute speedsters at WR. I wonder how he'd look without that arsenal? Edit: Actually, if you're basing it off post-season / championships to define "Greatness," then yes, it has to be Brady. I guess I'm more about the individual talent and skills of the QB, not the team accomplishments, so I guess I'd have to call it "Best of All Time"...BOAT just doesn't sound as cool.
