This draft class is brimming with stellar offensive line talent (particularly at the tackle position), and every time I gander at the latest draft boards, another one is rising.

That being said, it would be a stretch to think that we don't draft an offensive tackle within the first 100 selections. Left to right, we have glaring needs on the offensive line and no one on the roster not named Michael Deiter is capable of filling them.

Keeping in mind that Tua's blindside is actually the right side of the offensive line, who do you draft to keep him upright? Do you sign a free agent option and draft for the left side?

    Some options...
    • Andrew Thomas, LT, Georgia: consensus top tackle of the class, absurd potential, most NFL-ready
    • Trey Adams, LT, Washington: narrowly behind Thomas, fantastic athleticism, only concern is durability
    • Tristan Wirfs, RT, Iowa: steadily rising as a stout blocker in the run and pass
    • Austin Jackson, LT, USC: in the midst of an elite season, stock is skyrocketing
    • Walker Little, LT, Stanford: previously the No. 2 tackle before injury, a promising prognosis has vaulted him back into round one territory
    • Trey Smith, LG/LT, Tennessee: elite and versatile lineman, but health risks have caused his stock to dip
    • Mekhi Becton, LT, Louisville: absolute mauler at 6-7/370, surprisingly athletic
    • Calvin Throckmorton, RT, Oregon: all-around balanced and versatile blocker

I, for one, am overwhelmed with the prospective options at tackle and look forward to hearing your responses and reasoning. All of these guys should go in the first 100 selections, if not the first 64.

Personally, I would look at Trey Adams and Tristan Wirfs with Pittsburgh's pick, and if neither are there or a better player at another position is available, I'd consider Walker Little with Houston's pick.

Great thread! I wanted to ask people in the know about this also. Andrew Thomas seems to be the clear cut number one, and seemingly a near lock to be drafted in the top five. Beyond him, there seems to be some debate about who the next best is, and where he'll be drafted. I saw one mock this week where Thomas, Adams and Throckmorton were all taken in the top 10.

I am absolutely in favor of using one of our first rounders on this position if at all possible.

I recently saw a mock where the writter discusses the need for Miami to upgrade the OL then proceeds to ignore drafting an OL.

And the penthouse before the outhouse mocks (WR/RB/QB). While you can find quality guards in free agency, there are rarely quality tackles available.

With Tua's injury status I can see them not drafting a QB early. That would leave them with Rosen starting. Assuming Young and Burrow are gone, taking Jeudy and building the line later in round 1 and 2 would make sense. They will need someone who can make plays and people who can give the QB time.

Ideally I'd like to see Thomas at #3. It eliminates the OT uncertainty and there will still be quality WRs available with those 3 picks falling between #20 to #36.

Josh Jones from Houston is one to keep an eye on too. I love Andrew Thomas and he’s still my consensus top OT but damn if Whirfs is right there. During the lead up to the draft, I wouldn’t be surprised if Whirfs over took Thomas

I'm not sure I see Wirfs as a T at the next level. Great G prospect though.

I've seen Thomas the most so I suppose I would pick him.

One player that I think should be on there is Jedrick Wills, AL. When the season began a lot of people were talking about Leatherwood but Wills has proven to be the more sound OT and is very physical and powerful. I would put him from 2nd to 4th overall among OTs.

But, I want to look at some of these guys a little more than just the short moments I've seen thus far.

Agreed! A lot has changed since I started this thread.

Walker Little has decided to go back to school for 2021. Sam Cosmi has emerged as a round one prospect in Little's place, assuming Cosmi declares. Trey Adams and Calvin Throckmorton have slipped a bit with some poor play. Josh Jones, Prince Tega Wanogho, Alex Leatherwood, and Jedrick Willis all have climbed. It's going to be interesting to see what direction the FO goes in.

My new rankings would be something like this:

    1. Andrew Thomas, Georgia
    2. Austin Jackson, USC
    3. Tristan Wirfs, Iowa
    4. Sam Cosmi, Texas
    5. Trey Adams, Washington
    6. Alex Leatherwood, Alabama
    7. Josh Jones, Houston
    8. Jedrick Wills, Alabama
    9. Trey Smith, Tennessee
    10. Calvin Throckmorton, Oregon

It's tough though, because guys like Lucas Niang, Prince Tega Wanogho, Mekhi Becton, Yasir Durant, and Alaric Jackson are all on the bubble. I could see every one of them going in the first three rounds.

Good list. And good thoughts on those others. I saw Jackson play a couple of times and he looks great. Probably right to list Thomas ahead of him but Jackson could be as good as any. For some of these guys I think it will come down to how hard they apply themselves to their craft.

Andrew Thomas declared for the draft today, and will skip his bowl game. I'd like to think that he's in play for Miami.
