Too damn soon. Feel bad for the kids. Their dad was on the road to bank their security. And now when he can slow down he’s gone.

Sober reminder why I’ve steered away from jobs with travel regardless of pay. Just awful for the family.

Helicopters are generally safer in crashes than airplanes. My late friend, who was from Azusa CA, crashed 3 times in Viet Nam, and walked away from all three. It did play hell with his back, as he had issues with it for the rest of his life. I guess it all depends on the particular circumstances.
Very sad about Kobe though. He was probably one of the top 5 players of all time. Though that is subjective to say. How does one measure greatness? We would all probably agree Jordan and Lebron are, and IMO, Abdul-Jabbar and Bill Russell would be too. So who else is more deserving of being considered in the all-time top 5?

It's crazy. LeBron passes Kobe as the all time leading scorer, and Kobe dies the next morning. Crazy.

That’s terrible. It’s one thing to lose a parent like this. Another to lose a spouse and a child at the same time. Thoughts out with them.

I hope Vanessa and her family has people protecting them right now, losing your husband and a young daughter, both who still had a lot of years ahead of them, is devastating. I cant imagine her condition right now

Kobe deserved to live long enough to watch his daughters grow, he certainly shouldnt have to receive his Hall of Fame moment posthumously, but I have learned through faith you dont question these things, there’s a plan for everyone and everything.

Kobe’s career was somewhat celebrated the last couple days as Lebron was nearing his record. And now everyone gets to mourning his life and then celebrate his life again, and again when it’s time to put him in the Hall of Fame.

He was a childhood sports hero to millions globally. I was just browsing my phone and suddenly get a notification, a tweet from Woj that seemed unreal to me. Same feeling I had when i looked at my phone a few years back and saw a notification about Jose Fernandez.

It’s so horribly tragic. So so awful.

I have been a Lakers fan since watching the lose the NBA title to the Knicks.

I loved Kobe. He was imperfect. He made a tragic mistake. But he redeemed himself. He had the greatest work ethic I’ve ever heard about.

And even more tragic is that he was 41 and was really on his way to even greater things. And such an incredible role model to adults and children.

    It is just so heartbreaking.

Can’t stop crying bro. I can’t believe this. This guy was my idol. I was raised in la. Diehard laker fan ever since I was able to comprehend ball. My dad used to make me go to sleep at 9 whenever I had school the next day and I remember always sneaking out of my room and going behind the couch in the back where he couldn’t see me and I’d sit on the floor and watch as much as I could before he caught me. I remember my dad coming home sometime in December or January and telling me he bought us tickets to the lakers game vs raptors. I was so mad. I literally couldn’t believe the game I was gonna go to was versus the poop raptors. My little insensitive dumass begged my dad to switch the tickets. Thank gd he didn’t .. Bc he dropped 81 that night and I saw every point. This guy meant so much to me. Taught me to be strong in anything. Be a killer in everything. Be a winner in everything. If you’re doing something you’re either 1st or last and Kobe instilled that in me. I love you so much bro I don’t even know what to think or feel. Idc if I sound like a dick but thank you for being a 2nd father to me from afar.

and hearing LeBron talk about him last night. It’s just evil.

The only PROOF beyond typical media speculation is that he cheated on his wife.

Either way, when it is blatantly brought up to try and diminish a man who likely died with his 13 yr old daughter in his arms about 9 hours ago is as pathetic of an act as I’ve ever seen around here.

Dude was just killed, and yet folks want to attack him. Pretty damn crappy if u ask me.

This isn’t the time or place to be harping on something that supposedly happened almost 20 years ago. It’s in poor taste. Let people who loved Kobe mourn. This is the one and only warning. You don’t have to be a laker fan (I’m not) to appreciate how great a player he was.

You know man, I didn't even like Kobe. I respect him as a player but I held him in no personal esteem. But dude, pick your battles. This is a stupid hill to die on.

Terrible. I met Kobe on a few occasions...He was always extremely nice and went out of his way for fans.

I know some will bring up his past...but please, believe me, he has never physically harmed anyone, he's not perfect, but he was a very good guy.

Just read about the terrible weather conditions they were experiencing.. even LAPD werent flying their copters today because of it, they reportedly said the conditions didnt meet even their minimum standards for flight.

so the flight carrying all the passengers made six circles around a zoo, the pilot was trying to figure out how hes going to fly this with no view and was being guided by air traffic the whole time..

Kobe took a huge gamble, he may have been too anxious to get to where he wanted to be. But that is life Unfortunately it didnt end well for them.

One of his former teammate said that Kobe use to always travel with a copter. LA traffic was and still is still horrible. Guy never wanted to be late for anything and would do what ever he could to get there and be there the the 1st. Im pretty sure he didnt wanna have his daughter miss her game. This is sad, I feel numb.

It's his daughter who has really got me torn up, she never got a chance to start her legacy.

This is going to sting for a long time. Not seeing Kobe gray and old joking and reminiscing with his fellow brothers about the game is going to hurt.

One thing I'm learning in life is to always trust your gut. Our natural tendency is to follow the herd. I'm sure Kobe and all the people that boarded that helicopter saw the fog and had a bad feeling about getting onboard, yet they made the decision to get onboard.

Terrible tragedy, one that could have been avoided if just one person really listened to their gut and convinced the others to just drive.

I’ve never liked Kobe. In fact I’ve always disliked him. I know most of that is me believing what I want to believe in what I’ve heard/read. I don’t know the whole truth about him.

But what I do know (or think I know) is that he was a great father. Having a 3yr old daughter who I’m so very close to, this story really hits home. I feel so horrible knowing his other daughters lost their hero.

I just left the Orange County area yesterday morning, in fact I heard the news while at the airport.

It was extremely foggy there the past 3 mornings and much worse in the “hills area”.

The fact he and that little girl and the other passengers lost their life should be the focal point. Not some poor attempt to morally grandstand without evidence.

    It’s a tragedy.
