The IPA boom annoyed me. Going to a bar and having to choose between a super bitter collection of IPAs or American Trash Lagers is heartbreaking.

Especially since I am not a big fan of Guiness.

I don't eat my beer with a fork, so Guiness was never on the menu for me, lol. My dad loves the stuff.

Personally I'm not a beer snob at all, Budweiser just reminds me of cat pee for some reason.

Ha Coors definitely isnt an amazing beer trust I know. It's just one of the less offensive generic grab it at the store brands to me. I can also drink Heineken.

Hey, I could be wrong but I think its international law...maybe in the Geneva Convention or the Treaty of Versailles that if you're eating Shepherd's Pie, you have to drink Guinness with it... :wink2:

I've never been much of a fan of Bud or Coors, but when we first saw loads of the generic American beers appear over here in the late 80's, Michelob and Rolling Rock were my favourites. At the time, there wasn't much choice here for beer/lager, and Tennents (piss-water) was almost ubiquitous in Scotland, so American beer was something new.

Then you started seeing Lite and Ultra versions of American beers, and I could never get into them. Not had or seen Rolling Rock for sale here for a long time, but had a Michelob a few years ago and didn't like it anymore. Tastebuds have obviously changed as I got older (shown most by liking red wine and stouts/porters now, both of which I hated when I was younger). And much like the US, craft beer has taken off here in the last 10+ years, so now have a huge range of beers to cover all tastes.

I'm not a fan of IPA's at all though, and unfortunately they seem to be all the rage at the moment and everyone makes them. Still more choice of other beer types than there used to be, but I wish brewers wouldn't gravitate to IPA type beers so much.

When i was in Scotland, I "discovered " Tennets and enjoyed it with many meals on my trip, lol. That was also when I first saw Stella, but its so damn expensive that I rarely drink it.

    I like IPA's.

Those of you that aren't fans should try a hazy or New England style with a low bitterness rating. You might end up liking it.

this is true. because the hops aren't added in boiling wort, much less conversion of hop acids to bitter form. now, some people get annoyed at too much hop flavor that gets accentuated. but, when you try a truly well crafted IPA from Treehouse or HIll Farmstead you see how a great brewery can brew the best balance of flavors. While I love a good IPA (and brew quite a few of them), to me nothing beats a great sour. Allagash brewing in Maine and Cascade brewing in Portland OR are incredible american breweries for sours.
