It's starting to seem like you just want the guy to fail...or to be right about predicting it...

It's the classic if I'm right I look like a genius with my charts or if I'm wrong that's ok because nobody will care when the Dolphins are doing good.

No, just after that performance I can't imagine the line's being only 5 points, away, against one of the better teams in the league. Hell, when there's a QB injury Vegas will very often have no line on the game, due to the uncertainty at the QB position for one of the teams. I don't see how this game should be any different, when we have a rookie QB with only 22 throws under his belt. But instead of no line, they're actually letting you bet on Arizona in this one, while giving up only 5 points.

You do realise Tua didn't look horrible, right?

Oh my lord I disagree completely. That might've been one of the worst QB performances I've ever seen at the NFL level. And within the context of babying him in terms of the degree to which he had to run the offense and make plays.

The entire offense looked terrible. They looked terrible most of the game before with Fitz too.

Are you maybe stuck between the options of positive and negative, and need to find a place for meh?

Tua didn't wow anyone, mostly. He had some sharp throws, he had some bad throws. He simply wasn't horrible, just like he wasn't great.

    But horrible is an overstatement.

C'mon.. that is just ludicrous. You have to have extremely short term memory to say that was "one of the worst QB performances at the NFL level". We're not even that far away from Rosen crapping the bed and looking worse than Tua did, and that's just the Dolphins. Have you seen Darnold lately?? Or remember Stidham and Hoyer lol.

At least Tua didn't throw an INT! Tua will be fine.. that was only his first game at the NFL level. If he's playing like this at the end of the season, THEN I'd start to worry.

Yeah what I mean is that he just looked like he doesn’t have any business playing that position at that level. It’s similar to the feeling you might get when you watch somebody like Cleo Lemon or Ray Lucas or John Beck, where you know they’ve been put in there but they have no business in there.

What was Tua asked to do that he looked completely lost doing? You say these things, but you give no context, nothing tangible to back up what you're saying.

It's crazy, we took the guy every expert said we should take, and we are already starting down the same road that we went down with Tannehill, as far as forum posters drawing conclusions after one game.

Speaking of meh, can somebody help me with why I feel that way about Justin Herbert? He has all the tools that I should like and yet I just end up at meh every time I watch him.

Back to the Dolphins and Tua, and yesterday's performance I don't think is going to change anybody's mind. If you liked Tua beforehand then there was enough in the performance that you still like him. If you didn't like Tua beforehand, well then there was enough there that you still won't like him. The key thing, for the time being, is that we found a way to win the game and keep ourselves alive for the playoffs.

It feels weird that the fans of a team that's won its last 3 games by more than 10 points are debating whether it has the offense necessary to win enough games with it being a relevant point and yet here we are.

Yeah I understand it's nebulous and I apologize for that. I was big on Tua as a draft pick and was excited when they named him the starter. If you look through my post history you'll see I've never said a negative thing about the guy. Maybe it was just a one-game thing and he'll get better, but it just looked too "Pat White" for my taste. I know he's got an arm and accuracy Pat White never had, but I'm not sure his size and his (in)ability to experience sufficient comfort on an NFL field won't be a limiting factor on that.

Yeah man, I guess just pump the brakes. Lol. Tua was pretty much a flawless prospect according to everyone. If the hip was fine, then Tua would be a very good, if not great, NFL QB. So, one game against the best pass defense, with a very vanilla playbook and not much help from the rest of the offense, is hardly something to even think about for more than half a second. Tua is not John Beck.

That's just you, man. I mean, I don't know that he'll wind up being a great QB because it's only his first year, but every time I see him, I see someone in command of the game, with a powerful, accurate arm and the size to take a hit.

Same. I see a rookie QB with 15 td’s, 5 int’s who ranks 8th in Passer Rating. He has all the measurables and is athletic too.

I always thought that Herbert would have the highest ceiling of any QB in this class, but I did think that he would take a while to get going. I think that Burrow is basically pretty close to his ceiling, so he'd be the one to look pretty good from the get go but never do all that much better.

Playoffs? Hmm... I don't think so. I'm not buying the hype on that yet. Maybe it's because I've followed this team for far too long and know what to really expect from them  or something else. I just dont see it yet. They're too inconsistent. Rookie QB now to bring along the rest of the way. No real playmakers on offense. No RB worth a damn. One good WR in Paker, but after that there's just not much else on that side of the ball. Williams couldn't catch covid at this point, Grant just doesn't get used, Ford should be getting Williams' looks now; maybe he's more consistent. Gesicki has been impressive in spurts, and disappears in others. There isn't enough on offense for any QB IMO.

The Fins have a chance to beat a team that's at least three games over .500 while they themselves have a winning record for the first time since Week 17 of 2008 @ NYJ. The last time before that was Thanksgiving Day 2003 @ DAL.

    Its been a LONG time.

I went back and watched the game again, and I can see where there's some optimism regarding Tua's performance. There were some balls he threw that were very good. I guess I just thought he was bigger and was sort of shocked when I saw him functioning out there at that stature.

Yeah, he's tiny for a QB, there's no question. While he's the same size as Drew Brees on paper, he just looks smaller.

It sounds crazy but I don't think the jersey number 1 helps any. Put the 13 back on him and he'll "look" bigger for some reason.

And somehow he's actually slightly bigger than both Russell Wilson and Kyler Murray.

Murray looks really, really small to me. Wilson looks bigger. I happen to be the exact same height and a very similar build as Wilson, so he's my NFL analog, and I kind of use him to gauge how big other players are because of that. He just seems bigger than Tua to me.

I do agree on the number thing, though. #1 just makes guys look little. Its often seen on small WRs in college. I think he'd be been a lot better in #8.

And that's interesting because you have four guys here who are all about the same size -- Brees, Wilson, Murray, and Tua -- and the two of them who wear #1 "look" smaller than the other two.

Warren Moon never looked small, though. Or Jeff George. Cam Newton obviously doesn't. I wouldn't even say that specialists like Jason Elam, Pat McAffee or Matt Turk looked smaller.

    But those two do.

It took only one game, but I think you're going to lose this bet. This team is definitely winning 8+ games!

It took only one game, but I think you've been proven wrong about Tua. Tua is a great QB in the making.

As of this weekend's results the Phins have moved into the 7th position in the conference so, for now, we are a play-off team.

    Yes, Yes they are.

They should be 9-3 going into the KC game. (Chargers, Broncos, Bengals, Jets)

Justin Herbert and Joe Burrow are clearly great, but they'll have to face a much better Defence in the Dolphins then the sorry *** Defence their respective teams have.

    Tua should feast.

I think that it would be clear to most outside observers that the Chargers are better than their record, and the Dolphins are worse than theirs. I think that there's likely a correction coming for both clubs.
