11.5! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Oddsshark Preview: "Cincinnati News & Notes Fifth-year quarterback Brandon Allen will make his fifth career start Sunday after first overall pick Joe Burrow suffered a devastating knee injury in Week 11. Allen completed 17 of 29 passes for 136 yards with one touchdown and one interception in the team’s Week 12 loss to the Giants. It will be hard to expect much of anything from Allen on the road in Miami despite the solid group of receivers at his disposal. On defense, Cincinnati ranks near the bottom of the league in most major statistics. The Bengals have allowed the fifth-most yards per play and the eighth-most total yards, and have forced just 11 turnovers – tied for third-fewest. Cincy has been particularly porous against the run. The team has allowed the second-most yards per attempt (4.8) and the third-most yards overall on the ground." "Miami News & Notes Miami franchise quarterback Tua Tagovailoa has an injured thumb and is questionable for this game. However, whether or not Tagovailoa plays may not affect the outcome of this matchup. Veteran Ryan Fitzpatrick, who would start if Tua cannot play, has had a solid season, going 4-3 with 1,909 yards, 12 touchdowns and eight interceptions. If Fitzpatrick plays, look for top receiver DeVante Parker to take advantage of a soft Bengals defense. Four of Parker’s five most targeted games this season have come with Fitzpatrick at quarterback, including last week’s 14-target game in which Parker posted eight receptions for 119 yards. Miami’s defense has been the story of its surprise season. The Dolphins rank highly in most defensive categories and have allowed the third-fewest points and created the third-most turnovers this season." ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------CincyJungle Preview: "Bengals notes Quarterback Brandon Allen completed 17 of 29 passes (58.6 percent) for 136 yards with a touchdown and interception in his first start of the season last week. If Tua plays....A stat line of 25-25, 450 yards, i'm thinking 7-8 TDs will probably get it done. His receivers shouldn't need to get any separation at all. Each pass will need to be perfectly placed in their hands even when defenders are draped all over them. If he can't get handle this stat line, then he's clearly a bust. Seriously though....With or without Tua, we should be able to handle the Bengals right?
I wish he was- hated seeing anyone hurt much less a super-talented rookie taken #1 overall. Then again, it's hard to compare a guy's leg being snapped in half with someone who has a boo-boo on his thumb or his foot. So if that's what you were implying, it's way off-base.
Clearly that was not Tua's call to sit out. Was it an exaggeration of caution on the teams part? Most definitely, but after watching Burrow snap his leg in half, it was understandable.
Funny kind of reminds me of Titans fans bashing Mariota for small injuries, the guy would miss games due to a hiccup.
Spicy Bengals theory - fire Zack Taylor, hire Joe Brady. Taylor's just a dude, I know he's still new, but he doesn't seem to be doing anything impressive. Burrow reunited with Brady would be a fascinating move on the Bengal's part. As for the game, we should handle them easily regardless of who is under center. This is a game we can and should control and dominate end to end if we want to play at being playoff good.
PFF - from 1:19:12 / 1:22:56 (they've also segmented the timeline of the video so you can hover over each section with your mouse and see a description for that section): They don't really discuss much though. The Miami game is lumped into a mini segment on double-digit favourite games.
Yea that was a ridiculous comment..That dumb coaching staff had him going to set rookie record for pass attempts behind the worst offensive line in Nfl.What did you think was going to happen?
Where'd that come from- I thought he hit his hand on a helmet in practice? I'm still seeing that he's a game-day decision and could start Sunday.
I'm not sure I've ever seen that before in journalism- a reporter saying that it really doesn't matter who plays QB for Miami because we're going to win regardless.
Yea, the Bengals won the sweepstakes for the most coveted player coming out in the draft and yet, if you look at their other offseason moves, the Bengals did NOTHING to shore up their offensive line woes. Like so many other idiots...quarterback quarterback quarterback...drafting Joe Burrow was going to fix EVERYTHING offensively. Not intending to sound cruel but...how's that leg feeling Joe? The worse thing the Bengals could have done was release Dalton. Like Miami has done with Tagovailoa, the Bengals should have sat Burrow behind Dalton so Burrow could not only learn to adjust to the NFL game but also, watch the offensive line to know what he himself was going to have to be cautious of when he did start. At least now with Burrow out, the Bengals could have a seasoned quarterback back in the lineup instead of some obscure nobody.
After a quick search this is the only reference I can find to the partial tear - but it says "likely" (so probably just his guess):
I get that, but some here don't think a catastrophic injury is appropriate to joke about. It's tasteless.
Not aimed at you but I find the cognitive dissonance of this board a bit frightening sometimes. Without calling anyone out I've seen the SAME people say the injury history of Tua is meaningless but refer to other players in the NFL, NBA, MLB as made of glass. I dont mind people taking a side but a lot of people need to learn consistency on a stance.
Satire in itself does not necessarily require it to be humorous in nature. I didn't think his leg getting broke was at all funny. Satire can sometimes be in the form of comedy but this was in the use of exaggeration to point out the folly about some of the Tua posts. Just for clarification.
I fully understood your meaning as well as what others shared- and that doesn't make it any less tasteless. Tua has been injured every year he's ever played organized football, while Burrow got hit in the worst possible way in a devastating injury- anyone's leg would have snapped in that situation. A mock comparison of the two situations is not satirical; it's just plain mean. Nobody has said it out loud yet, but there's a chance Burrow's career is over. That's not something to try and make a baseless point over.
No not really. Irony describes situations that are strange or funny because things happen in a way that seems to be the opposite of what you expected. Satire is making fun of people by imitating them in ways that expose their irrationality or flaws.
I hope Tua plays. Last week's game with Fitzpatrick was as boring as can be. Had to be the least entertaining and least exciting win I've seen in a long time. I probably won't make it a priority to go out and watch the game if Fitzpatrick is named starter, especially against the Bengals. Come on Flores don't be a wimp, the kid wants to play let him play. He practiced all week again, albeit in "limited" capacity whatever that means. Let's go.
So just to be clear, what you're saying is you know with 100% certainty that Tua will succeed? I'm not trying to debate Tua, I'm saying that is a baseless and bold assertion on literally any subject if I'm understanding you right. If I'm not obviously feel free to correct me.
Not with a 38 year old journeyman quarterback who's just flinging the ball around. Jets game was unwatchable. Bengals game will be too if Fitzpatrick is playing.
