Always Open + Catches EVERYTHING! BEAST MODE / STUD / HEISMAN= worthy of the #3 pick!!!! He's already at the stadium, just go ahead and pick put a locker. While you're at it may as well find a realtor.
He must be a Dolphin. Nobody can cover him. Catches everything. Outruns everyone. Has the Tua connection. Please draft him.
He's been spectacular tonight, no doubt. I worry about his frame though. He just looks small and fragile, but my god he's spectacular. I'd love to draft him or Chase at 3. Harris or Etienne at 18. Also open to trading down to do both. Id LOVE both of those guys on this team though. We'll know pretty quickly there what we have in Tua giving him those two weapons. That's why I'm not big on the Watson rumors, we need guys like Smith/Chase/Waddle or Harris/Etienne. No matter who is under center
It will have to be with the #3 pick overall, he's playing himself into the Top 5, we trade down I doubt he will be where ever we traded down too.
The thing is he makes it look effortless. He could put on a couple pounds that doesn't worry me. The Jets at #2 worry me especially if they give Darnold another shot.
I thought the same but then I heard someone on ESPN comparing him to.......Marvin Harrison Devonta Smith is 6'1 174 lbs Marvin Harrison was 6'0 181 lbs
To take Justin Fields? If we can bluff them into thinking we're going to trade down to someone else who wants Fields (who I assume the Falcons want), they may bite. But if I'm Atlanta I call their bluff, they have to know were salivating at the thought of Tua and Smith together again.
or Zach Wilson. Though it would take Atlanta willing to move on from Matt Ryan. There are plenty of teams in the market for a QB this offseason, IMO. I don't think we have to bluff.
I don't see them passing on Sewell, but the Jets might be concerned that Sewell and Becton both might want top dollar in a few years. Having two franchise linemen is not going to be cheap. On another note what is with the site always freezing up when you go to hit the submit button? Three times its happen to me the last 15 mins, anyone else having this problem?
Smith is good, but the positional value is terrible, especially with that frame. I wouldn't be upset to take him, especially with the lack of a big time Edge defender, but it's a big gamble.
If the Jets did take Smith, that would mean Fields and Sewell BOTH will be sitting their at #3. We'll have teams that need a QB and anyone who needs a tackle interested in moving up to ante up the bidding, we could trade down and most likely get Chase and clean up on extra picks, maybe even someone's #1 next year.
I'm impressed with Smith, but at #3 you take a QB, a stud OT, a stud DE, or you trade down. I wouldn't be shocked if the Falcons wanted to get Wilson and groom him for a year behind Matt Ryan -that would be a good situation for a new coach. We could easily demand a second rounder to drop ONE spot, then we could grab Sewell at #4 (assuming Jets go Justin Smith at #2). Or you trade with the Bengals and get another second rounder from them to move up a spot and get Sewell, while Miami then takes Devonta Smith at #5. We might settle for a third and fifth rounder instead of their second to drop to #5, but you'd have to be thrilled to see things unfold like that. All that said, I'd be very tempted to just take the trade down to #4 with the Falcons and take Sewell. A dominate OL would make everyone better on offense and give our defense extra rest and more margin for error. If you can't pass protect, Devonta Smith is much less of a weapon. Oh, yeah, the site is slow, it took 10 seconds for my post to go through.
I think we can all agree that a larger frame wouldn't prevent a broken finger, so don't go there people
Im still taking Chase over him... bigger, stronger, runs crisper routes, has top end speed. but if we were to trade down to 7 or 8 and get another first round pick.. ill take Smith at that spot.
I think tonights game solidified once and for all Trevor as the top pick in the draft. justin fields is a very good prospect... there were some throws that he made today that blew me away.. the pass to Ruckert in the first half... ive seen a handful of quarterbacks in the NFL that can make such a throw.. then there were other throws that he just bullseyed it as well.. But then i also saw bad decision making, indecisiveness, and lack of confidence in making some throws. He was not aggressive enough.. youre not going to best Alabama playing it safe. He was very aggressive against Clemson yet tonight he took the foot off the gas. Ive also seen him take some shots this season that has left him shook.. the shots are much bigger and harder in the NFL. anyways i was very wrong about Herbert coming out of Oregon... and i was very wrong about Dak Prescott coming out of Miss State... wouldnt shock me if Justin tears up the league but he will be walking into the Jets.. with most likely Doug Pederson as his head coach..
That Deonte Brown is huge! I read that he has never given up a sack in the years he has been at Alabama. His knees concern me though, both of them are in braces. And could he really play at the next level at 350?
Says who? If you can get a game changing receiver at your draft position, a guy that can take over games why would you be penalized because you have the 3rd pick? When is it acceptable to draft a receiver, 7? 8? 10?. WE don't need a QB and we don't need an offensive lineman. We do need play makers on offense. That is who Smith is.
Assuming the team is going forward with Tua, I think at this point you simply let yourself be glad you have the #3 overall pick so you can in fact land Smith. He's going in the top five.
That was true in 1995. Nowadays if you have a receiver who can play like he does you pick him as high as #3 overall and let him fuel your offensive passing game, which is what wins in the present-day NFL.
The Redskins Traded UP in the 92 Draft to take Desmond Howard (the last WR to win the Heisman) and gave up two 1st round picks to do it.
I get what both of you are saying. I think he’s saying you build from the outside in. Based on what we need and who’s available, you have to strongly consider. Just unfortunate that there is no game changing defensive player available at that position to give us more options.
Just food for thought... The last wide receiver who won the Heisman Trophy was Desmond Howard...who was also a Super Bowl champion as well as the Super Bowl MVP. Before that was NFL Hall of Fame inductee Tim Brown. Although I have concerns about his overall size, you can’t pass on this kid, especially when he and Tagovailoa already have playing time together in Alabama and chemistry is already established.
Hes not that tiny. It's actually a decent frame because you can build on it with NFL strength and conditioning. I expect he could get up to about 180 fairly easily just on muscle gain without losing anything.
Wouldn't worry about Smith's size. Marvin Harrison played in a tougher era and was just fine. What I have seen of Smith is he is tough and is all business (just like Harrison). Prefer a trade down but I'd take him at 3. Of course given this is a deep draft for WRs I would fill another position at 3 before WR.
Tyreke Hill can’t be over 190 and he doesn’t seem to have any issues. Probably doesn’t matter when you’re always open by several yards.
He (Hill) has a different frame/built and has elite speed. Not saying he (Smith) won’t succeed in the NFL, but at 3 I would like to have a different kind of player and if you go WR I think Chase is the safer/better pick.
I would be utterly shocked if that happened. If the Jets don't take a QB, then they'll trade that pick to someone who will.
Smith is currently thin, but he can add 10-15 pounds that will benefit him from the pounding of the NFL. He also has long arms and legs for his frame and he uses both to win contested catches. He runs great routes and he catches everything thrown his way. I'd love to draft him somewhere, somehow. I'd just prefer it not be at #3 overall. Reminds me of Marvin Harrison
