Never any doubt they were staying with Tua. Sorry guys you don't give up on a QB like Tua after only a handful of games and no real training camp. He may not have lit the world on fire but he wasn't Josh Rosen either.
He was on a much better team than Josh Rosen, with a better coach. But yeah, Josh Rosen was a reach where he was picked, too.
Let's not compare Tua to Rosen. Rosen was a bust of epic proportions, at least statistically. Lots of QB's have been on bad teams with bad coaches, but no one managed what Rosen did: he's the only QB drafted since 1978 in the database I have (which is missing maybe only a few QB's since that time) whose first 16 games starting were ALL below average statistically. That is so rare it had never happened until Rosen. Tua at least had 4 out of 9 games starting that were above league average passer rating. Tua is definitely not a Rosen.
I still think you're wrong about Rosen- we'll see a few years from now. While your stat is indeed correct, he played for two historically bad teams as well. Time will tell, but I still think Rosen will develop into a pretty good QB if he doesn't wash out first.
Did Tua request Frye? That would mean more to me given the constant coaching turnover under Flores. Dolphins can have a stacked young team after this draft. Tua does poorly it means we draft a QB early in 2022 draft.
Your assumption is that he will not improve. You can base it on your judgement of what you have seen, but it's an assumption.
No, it's a judgment of his physical tools. He's not going to get taller, nor will his frame support a lot more muscle without losing mobility.
I don't think there's any real reason to believe the Dolphins are looking at other QBs. People look at the big-arm guys having success this year (Herbert, Allen, Mahomes) and they pair that with Miami having the #3 pick and now players like Watson, Rodgers and Stafford suggesting they may want out and they make up narratives. Fact is, the Dolphins like Tua. He's a great talent and will get his 2nd year to show what he can do. Better question is who the Dolphins end up selecting as OC.
