I don't know how he could fit into our draft day plans without trading back, but I'd absolutely love to see him on the Dolphins however it might happen. When I see Pitts skillset he reminds me of Shannon Sharpe, but better hands and more elusive. We could use both he and Mike Gesicki to create mismatches all over the field. Dude is so polished and slippery, amazing hands. I love how he catches the ball with defenders hanging all over him. He creates an odd amount of separation for a TE on his routes. Normally I know TE's don't go real high, but I'm seeing Mocks with him even in the top 5. Love Love Love this guy.
He has one of the best WR/TE highlights that I've ever seen and believe me when I say I've watched thousands of them over the years coaching. I think he is as close to a sure thing as you can draft.
The one thing we never see and this includes any prospect is love for the game.Is he willing to go the extra mile to become great?I guess now u do interviews at the pro day since we had no combine.
Nice scouting report by Daniel Jeremiah. Comps him to Darren Waller. https://www.nfl.com/news/scouting-kyle-pitts-florida-te-similar-to-raiders-darren-waller
Can you imagine defenses having to stop both Gesicki and Pitts? If we traded back, I’d love to take him.
I remember the two-headed monster that was Gronk and Hernandez. If we added him and a true WR1, our red zone numbers would be near the top of the league.
My brother is a huge Gators fan so I caught a lot of their games the past two years. Pitts is an absolute stud and I'd love to have him as well; he may be the best all-round receiver in this entire draft. However, we have Gisecki playing great ball as well so I'm not sure if he's an ideal fit for our roster...he'd be more of a luxury pick. I think he'll probably be off the board in the top 6 or 7. Could you imagine though- we could throw 50/50 balls to Parker, Williams, Gisecki and Pitts? No idea how you cover something like that. However, Kyle Trask really appeals to me as a QB2/QB3 for us in the later rounds. I've watched him grow up and mature over the last two seasons much like Burrow did last year. I'm not saying he's a can't miss prospect or anything, but I do think he has tons of potential to develop into a solid QB over the next few years.
Isn't Gesicki in the last year of his rookie deal? If we draft Pitts, I can see it being the last year Gesicki is on the team tbh. Pitts has a lot riding on his workout. Running something like a 4.5 or even a 4.4 and he may be the first pass catcher taken. Still not sure about taking a pass catcher at 3 over a premier LT like Sewell though. However, if we can trade with the Eagles, Lions, Panthers? He's probably a pretty clear target.
Plus if we draft a kid like Pitts he and Gesicki not only create all kinds of mismatches for our passing game but we also get a little bigger and stronger blocking for the running game having more two TE sets using these guys. I'm not saying they are great blockers but we'd get more upfield from them than we would with WR's blocking. The more I think about what Pitts could do for us the more I move him up on my wish list. He may very well be the best receiver available IMO.
I certainly wouldn't mind Pitts. A weapon is a weapon. Especially if we sign a WR in FA. All the more reason to trade down. We could make great use of so many of the top tier guys Assuming you get at least 3 Qbs in the top 10, you have: Sewell, Pitts, Smith, Chase, Waddle, Parsons, Slater/Vera-Tucker, Rousseau that are all needs for us. So as long as we get a good trade, we could move as far down as 15 or so and SOMEONE high on our board will be there that we could absolutely use. The only high rated players right now that we don't need are CBs.
Don’t trust any source that says this dude can’t block, it just means they haven’t studied.. He’s a complete dynamic blue chip tight end.
It would be easier to get a top WR and add them to the offense. Getting Pitts, you need to adjust the offense to use Parker, Williams, Gesicki, and Pitts. I don't think it would be all that difficult though, as Pitts can actually block and you can split Gesicki out wide and treat him like a WR. That said, I'd probably still take Sewell if we have to stay put at #3. A trade down a few spots and all the options are on the table. Chase is probably the first WR taken, but after that, who knows? I could see both Smith and Waddle drop due to size and injury concerns respectively, and by 'drop' I mean ONE of them might be there at #18. The most important thing, if we only got Pitts and not a top WR, is to adjust the offense and not just swap him and Gesicki out using only one TE formations.
I was thinking the same things about pick #18. Smith or Waddle might be there. Especially with the rise of all the QB's and OL. Seriously I'd be Mike Tyson "Ecstatic" if we landed: Trade back from #3 and pick up another Round 1-2, plus a high pick next year 1a- Draft TE Pitts with our first selection 1b- Draft WR D. Smith or Waddle at 18 1c- Draft best Edge available or RB 2a- Draft Best Big Edge or RB available with our top pick 2b- Draft the Whitewater C or Creed Humphrey FA pickups? Any of these 3 would do fine: RB A. Jones C Linsey DL L. Williams
I wouldn't freak out at all if we drafted this TE Pitts at 3 overall, because he can also line up in the slot and out wide. He's a rare type of player. He's the kind of player that can transform an offense by all the mismatches he creates.
He is gonna be an absolute stud. Honestly, I wouldn't be mad at all if we took a guy at 3 that I knew was gonna be an instant star!
I think it's pretty obvious that he is one of the best receivers (if not the best) in this draft. His size and hands are definitely special, and he runs fantastic routes and creates all kinds of separation!
A nice write up on taking Pitts at #3 overall https://www.si.com/nfl/dolphins/new...orida-tight-end-kyle-pitts-in-the-first-round
Yeah I'm pretty much at the point I'd pencil him in at #3 overall if we can't trade back if it was up to me.
Image him and mike double tight end sets with Parker or 2 stud wideouts and a solid running back hell I’d mix up double sets constantly double TE one set next double RB’s keep them guessing and work the clock
Yup. And don't forget there will absolutely be a stud WR around at 18... Maybe even Smith or Waddle. Pitts + Smith or Waddle at 3 and 18 takes away all the excuses for Coordinators and QB's
Combination of reasons. Low positional value, easier to find gems in later rounds, colleges not producing finished products. TE's traditionally really really struggle in their first year. Even a HOF like Gronk (second rounder) had a somewhat mediocre first year. Most of the good TEs are drafted outside the first. Kelce and Mark Andrews were third rounders, Kittle a fifth, Waller went in round 6 as a WR and was picked off the Raven's practice squad by the Raiders. My two biggest hang ups about Pitts at 3 (or really in the top 10 in general) is how little production rookie TEs give and how a good GM can get a beast at that spot later in the draft. If we are exploring trade down scenarious though - like into the 6-12 range - Pitts is certainly a guy we can target and draft along with the top 3 WRs (Chase, Waddle and Smith).
Or we keep Mike and run a lot of 2 TE sets...you would have a lot of options out of the same formation...throw in some motion...defenses will have a hard time getting pre-snap reads
