When you watch his tape, you can see why some love this pick, but when you read his injury history, you can see why the apprehension in many.

I just can’t understand why we keep drafting guys with injury history. It’s like Grier doesn’t even look at that.

The tradeoff can be huge and plus, it's football, everyone gets injured.

Concussions will cut short a player's career. And he's already had a couple.

I'll never hate on taking a cane but i would of went najee. If we dont end up with williams tomorrow they ruined the draft again.

    Ruined the draft?
I want a rb as well however but using a top 3 round pick on a rb won't ruin the draft

If he stays healthy a good pick up, but that's a too big if for my taste. Don't like this pick either.

The guy was hit by a car and got a pretty good concussion. He came back and played and got another concussion afterwards. He wisely took a year off and let his head heal better and last year played without any trouble. I seriously doubt playing the position he plays that he will be any more inclined for more concussions than any other edge rusher.

He is going to be fine. Great pick and arguably the best edge in the draft.

    Charles Harris he aint.

Paye seems like the safer pick. I wanted Collins > Paye > Phillips.

I see why they like Phillips. His pro day is sick. But we already have several players that struggle staying healthy and this team isn’t winning games when we’re missing 4-6 key starters.

Phillips has the athleticism to help solve one of Miami's greatest problems, the running quarterback.

Its my opinion i know people hate going rb early in drafts. I just feel this team is built to be a defense first team. They put tua in over fitz last year to lower our turnover rate to allow the defense to keep us in games. We should be building a ground and pound team with this type of head coach. Instead we are trying to build a high powered passing game when we have no idea if tua is capable of that at the nfl level. Sure we all hope he is but look at what happened to the steelers last year. Same team concept built on defense that didnt have a running game. They fell apart when it mattered because you cant throw 60 times a game and win in the nfl long term.

That is just an extreme opinion.

If this draft makes Dolphins a better team, it is a good draft even without a runningback.

****, if they get Jenkins and a center at 36/50 and both of them hit then it wouldn't matter who is runningback as any back could get yards then.

Look at what happened to the Steelers who made the playoffs?

From SI’s Albert Breer’s article this morning:

Speaking of the Dolphins, I think their second pick, LB Jaelan Phillips, could wind up being a grand slam for the team. I don’t believe I talked to a single scout the last month who didn’t think Phillips was the best rusher in the draft and a top-10 prospect on tape. The background is a little scary, of course. But he was seen generally as a good-hearted kid doing his best to keep his demons at bay and was very open with teams about that.

Yeah, that's exactly how I feel about it. When I watch him I sit back and go... Damn. This kid has the potential and ability to be a great and disruptive force for us up front. Let's face it we need that on defense as well. We badly need a pass rushing threat, and a guy that can also play against the run. Phillips looks like he can do it all.

The concern for me is that injury history. Not so much the wrist and such, but the concussions. If I'm not mistaken one was football related and the other was from a car accident or something. Just seeing as how concussions seem to breed more concussions I've got some concerns there. Kwity Paye may have been a better; or safer option, but I think Philips has the ability to be the better player long term.

It's a high risk, high reward type situation here. Not what you like to hear with a first round pick for some people I bet, but ultimately I think the potential reward here far outweighs the risk & it seems that's how the Dolphins felt about it too.

Wrong again. I felt like with Waddle the Phins could have traded back and still landed their picks...

Chris Simms was saying without the injury history he would have been the best defensive player in the draft and a top 10 pick. High risk, higher reward

I am going to be honest. I did not realize how good an athlete is Jaelen Phillips. I decided to compare his pro day results to the best results I can find of six top defensive ends since 2011, Aldon Smith (2011-7th pick), Joey Bosa(2016-3rd pick), Nick Bosa (2019-2nd pick), Bradley Chubb (2018-5th pick), Dante Fowler (2015-3rd pick).

If you go by combine numbers his numbers compare to everyone

I was watching a video on how good is the 2011 draft and they mention how Aldon Smith had 33.5 sacks in his first two years. Then I thought, "I wonder how Jaelen matches up?" To my surprise, Jaelen had better numbers, so I decided to see how he did against the top picks who actually turned out good players.

He is up there with any of those players. If Miami can extend Ogdba, Miami's pass rush has a good chance to be sick for the next few years.

Googled to find how his RAS matched up and found this:

quoted for those that have twitter blocked:

Jaelan Phillips is a DE prospect in the 2021 draft class. He scored a 9.9 RAS out of a possible 10.00. This ranked 14 out of 1345 DE from 1987 to 2021.

    14th best since 87! Wow.
