After watching last nights game between the Broncos and the Raiders I came away completely impressed with Eddie Royal the rookie WR for Denver. For those of you who could not watch it due to the late game time start take a look at the highlight video on this kid.

    NFL Video Galleries

Virtually the same height and weight as Ted Ginn but not as fast. Eddie royally schooled DeAngelo Hall last night and caught 9 passes for 146 yards. You will also notice he is pretty good on Punt Returns and looks to have a stronger throwing arm than Pennington.

Why do I bring this up you ask? Ginn is supposed to be our Number 1 receiver and 2 catches for 17 yards just does not get the job done. I like Ginn as much as anybody but it us time for him to start producing real numbers. If I am Sparano I would have Ginn watching the Royal highlight reels over and over again just for him to realize how embarrassed he should be with his lack of SEPARATION AND PRODUCTION!

ding ding ding.....we have a winner!

guys with far less speed (wes welker) get open....how? knowing tendencies and crisp route running....ginn isn't gonna just blow past guys everydown.....he needs to improve vastly his seperation and route running ability....or like his opponets in college....he is toast!

the coaching staff definitely played a part in helping royal get open. we got three buck-o-five's starting at WR, we need plays with motion big time. gotta give these little guys a chance.

I said over at FH before the draft watching highlights of Eddie Royal I knew he was going to be a special player, the guy has burst off the line like no other, you can't press this guy. Not only does he have that burst to get open, he has amazing speed. I said he would be the best Rookie WR of his class and looks like I was right.

Ginn doesn't have that quick burst like Royal. Its not so much route running to having a burst off the line, Thats why Welker is so good at getting open.

I was very high on Royal at the Combine. It was obvious that his routes were tops there and he had great hands as well. Funny how a 40 time can lower value on one of the best players in the draft.

The strength of the opponent has to do a lot with that .The Raiders defense is poor. The Jets defense is not .

Still it was an impressive performance and fun to watch

Aren't the Raiders supposed to have one of the best Defensive Backfields in the league though?

No. Their best player is Nnamdi Asomugha the rest are average and overrated.

Let's just say Ginn didn't make the most of his time out there on the field, which is what he needs to be doing. Let's also say that we are rebuilding by building "inside-out" and suffice it to say, we haven't ventured too far "out" yet. Not much attention was paid on the WR corps this off season and for good reason although I guess you could argue that getting Wilford and Bess was attention enough.

And yes, the Raiders defensive backfield is designed to be one of the best in the league.

That's far from true. Their personnel is quite solid. The Denver OL held its own though and gave Cutler plenty of time.

Well, DeAngelo Hall and Nnamdi Asomugha are pretty good corners and Stanford Routt is no slouch.

Now I dunno what was going on in Ginn's mind during punt returns but he's still raw as a WR.

After listening to Sparano on his "day-after" PC, my money is on Wilford starting opposite Ginn @ Arizona this week. Just a gut feeling more than anything but somethings gotta give here, Wilford is the most logical path to take by my estimation for various reasons to at least patch what seems to be such a gaping hole on the offense.

The secondary is extremely overrated and Asomugha is their best player by a mile.

DeAngelo Hall is the definition of an overrated player.

Personnel wise, yes. Their coaching and the organization itself? Shambles.

Even D hall who is overrated but you have to be good to be overrated.

Despite the fact I really like Yeremiah at Safety for us, I would swap the Raiders defensive backfield with ours in a heartbeat.

Nnamdi Asomugha, DeAngelo Hall, Michael Huff and Gibril Wilson

    or

Will Allen, Goodman, Crocker and Bell

Many posters on the board wanted us to try and pickup Gibril Wilson as a FA from the Giants this past off season and would have drafted Huff when he came out.

Don't even get me started on Asomugha, I still say we should throw cash his way next year if the Raiders funble his re signing again. Most people are turned off by Halls arrogance, the guy is still better than Goodman or Lehan.

Sorry man, I like Ginn and think he will be a good player eventually, but he most definitely was not double-covered on most plays.

Hall is overpayed and overhyped, but hes still a solid corner. Get burned a bit much, but can get INTs and make plays as well. Asmougah is a top 3-5 corner. Gibril Wilson is an excellent safety and Huff is solid as well. The LBs and DL are iffy, but that secondary is good.

Ginn did NOT have a good game and needs to step it up. I saw more from him last year than I did in the Jets game. And all the crap about him being double covered or having a good CB in Revis on him is total bull****. Your top WR always will and should get that coverage. IF they trully are a top WR they will still find ways to make a play. We still have a whole season for Ginn to step it up, and time may prove he just got a slow start, but it may also prove hes best suited to being second fiddle.

Anyways other then running better routes he also is super Quick, and as fast as are #19 is no one would ever think of him as Quick.

Ginn doesn't have that burst like Welker or Royal if he did he would be a shorter version of Randy Moss.

The key is, did Ginn get open and just wasn't utilized or did he get lost and unable to get open to present Pennington a target. Of course that applies to all of our receivers as well.
It could be first game jitters and something they can correct or if it continues, we know we have to address this in the draft as well as free agency.
I wasn't fortunate enough to see the game but did Ginn have problems shedding the initial contact at the line of scrimmage?
