“The kid looks like he’s lost on I-95,” Buoniconti said. “The guy can’t find his way out of the huddle.” Palm Beach Post: Palm Beach & Treasure Coast news, sports, entertainment, jobs, cars, homes “Here’s a guy who’s finally got to step up and start performing,” Buoniconti said. “They’ve been treating Ted Ginn with kid gloves, and I understand that. But younger guys now have to rise to the occasion, and they have to start playing.” To be honest I agree with him. It is time for the kids gloves to come off and for him to start getting separation and making plays. No more excuses and please don't start with the he was double covered on most plays, had safety help over the top etc. etc. Again, I REALLY like Ted Ginn, but he needs to step up and start making plays every week for us to progress as a team in the passing game.
All this is a little premature. IT WAS ONE GAME. With that being said, he does have to step up, and he knows it. Lets see how he responds under all of this added pressure.
OF HIS SECOND YEAR!!!! Look at The bronco's Royal he light up the Raiders game one of his first year! KID GLOVES OFF!!!
Ginn has now played in 17 regular season games and his best week was against the Bengals last year with 7 catches for 53 yards. He had 2 other games with at least 4 catches for over 50 to 60 yards. Granted our QB situation along with the rest of the team was terrible last year. But I think the reason he is taking heat this year is his lack of solid route running. He has to start creating separation at least 70% of his routes to give a window to Pennington to throw it to him.
Wilford was supposed to be the veteran who would solidify the WR core and could take the pressure off Ginn so that the later could find spaces . Instead Wilford is on the sidelines and the rest of the receivers are not proven players .They dont scare anyone so defenses take Ginn out of the game. Having said that Ginn needs to run better routes so the QB can find him .
I think Ginn needs to start returning kicks again. If he can't make an impact in the passing game, put him somewhere where he can make an impact.
I think we see Wilford suit up this week. This will hopefully change the dynamic of what we try to do and IF HE CAN MAKE A FEW CATCHES EARLY it may free Ginn up some. Still Ginn must run better routes and "get open anyway possible" to get the offense on track.
I agree. He should at least return the KO where he has a better opportunity to utilize his speed. I would still like to see Bess on PR. He seems to have a better ability to make the first guy miss and thats where the big returns will come on punts.
I am all for moving him around on the filed, play action passes, screens, motions anything to help him get open but something to help him get open. Even with that he has to work on his route running especially hard.
I wish these former players would keep their mouths shut, that's what I think. Ted Ginn isn't stupid, he knows he needs to play better.
and I feel bad for Ginn. Since the day he got here he's been ridiculed and blasted by people. Look, I know you have to start producing, but damn, give the kid a chance.
Perhaps they need to change the routes Ginn runs in order for him to be effective. A perfect example was that flea flicker gone awry versus the Jets. Ginn was wide open, but there is no way he gets the ball from Chad in that situation, he was too far down the field. Give Ginn a couple of button hooks, square ins, slants and other high percentage reception routes and his numbers will look better. I think they feel like they can get him open down the field each play, and that won't get it done. Not with a weak armed QB and a young, inexperieced line.
That's the thing though, with Ginn, he's either going to be open when running deep, or when he's in space, bubble screens, trick plays, reverses, etc. I felt like Miami used him poorly against the Jets, but Ted Ginn's never going to be confused for Marvin Harrison when running routes, ever. I'm still puzzled as to why he wasn't returning kickoffs, and why he was so poor on punt returns...but to think he's going to be a #1 WR in the NFL is wrong. He's a supplement #2 guy. At Ohio State he thrived by playing across from Santonio Holmes and Anthony Gonzalez. I think as time plays out, we'll see the same thing here until we have a true #1 WR across from him. He can be our "Reggie Wayne" if you will, but we still need that "Marvin Harrison" type.
Ted Ginn week 1: 2 catches - 17 yards There is another WR from Ohio State that had 2 catches for 19 yards on sunday, do you think he's on the hot seat too? Spoiler Santonio Holmes - 2 rec. - 19 yards
Is that WR the team's #1? I don't think so. And when a team runs the ball as well as that WR's team did, you don't need to rely on the passing game.
Ok, well our passing game had 2 TDs, just like the Steelers. Just because the tight ends got a large portion of the looks this week, doesnt mean that we werent effective. Calling out Ginn is just like calling out Holmes. Its uncalled for. You cant take a one week sample and make conclusions. Perhaps we should be blaming Ricky, no? Isn't he the one that failed to produce? Our passing game bailed us out all day long. But it was supposed to be our running game that is carrying us. I think the burden should fall on the runners before the WRs. After all, no one is expecting us to have the best WRs in the league. So why cry about it every week that we dont? Ginn has played one game with Pennington. ONE!!!! Back the hell off.
i too was surprised that Ginn wasnt used on returns more. If youre not going to use him in the passing game very much, then get the ball in his hands on returns. He needs to touch the ball.
Your going to get ripped when your a top 10 pick who fails to be a difference maker on offense and part of a franchise who has so many legends.
I don't know.... He muffed the opportunities he did have. He just seemed out of it this game, like his confidence was blown. You ever play organized sports and the harder you tried the worst things got and by the end of the game you were just happy it was over. Stuff like this seems to snowball... maybe it was just a bad game. Lets see what he does against a softer Arizona D.
The last play bothered me in that Ginn immediately gave up on trying to catch the ball and just tacked the defender. In that situation it showed a lack of awareness because we were down to just one play if that one failed. Be aggressive and fight for the ball.
I'm not picking apart Ginn. It's not his fault he was overdrafted by a terrible front office, but he's never going to be a #1 WR in this league, you're kidding yourself if you believe that. Read almost any draft review that came out on him and it'll say he's a #2 or #3 option at best. True, he's our #1 this year by default; but it's a disservice to him to have Derek Hagan, Greg Camarillo or Davone Bess playing across from him. He's not a good route runner, which I think was evident when he ran a slant behind a defender and it almost got picked. I'm a little miffed as to why he didn't get a chance on kickoff returns, but he sure didn't look like he is supposed to on those punt returns. When he's got the same problems this year as he did last year, it doesn't matter if it's Chad Pennington, Brett Favre or Peyton Manning throwing the ball, he's not going to get open if he can't learn to beat the jam.
bingo! Ginn is lost....and needs to step up, or train for track in the '12 olympics....cause he wont cut it as a nfl WR
I like the sig SFF, Tanner has been one of my favorite MMA fighters for the last 4 years and was really saddened to hear of his passing. One really tough SOB that one.
I'm tired of these former players taking shots at the current players. If you don't have anything to say positive, then just be quiet. We know what are the strengths and weaknesses of the players, you don't have to reiterate that. Ginn also played a good CB in my opinion in Darelle Revis. How come no one gives him any credit for this? I know its the Jets but he's a good player. Regarding Ginn not returning, I figured he would be returning considering Sparano's numerous comments about him using Ginn at the best places possible. I wonder if his long stride has to do with any of this. I'd like to see him on Punt Returns for sure though. I thought Holmes was their new number one? I had heard that Hines Ward was the second option in Pittsburgh now which is why everyone had high expectations for Holmes.
yes, but Ginn has been ripped by the media and fans the second Roger Goodell announced his name in April of 2007...to me it just isn't fair. This is only his second year (and it's only been ONE GAME!) and people are already calling for his head. To me, that's nonsense.
Bad comparison Holmes was not drafted at #9 Holmes team scored over 30 points If the Dolphins scroe 30 points a game with Ginn catching 2 balls the pressure would be off Ginn. Ginn will have better games but how many games a year will he have like Royal. He should have 3-4 giving his draft position and speed We will see
Ted Ginn is doing exactly what some of us thought he would do when we stupidly used the 7th overall pick on him. Actually that's not true. I at least thought he would be a real weapon in kick and punt return games...
You mean the #9th pick No worries man, as I said Ginn will get it going, don't count him out yet.Season is very, very early still. His punt return for a TD in preseason was just the beginning to what is coming this season.
Granted he was on the PR unit this weekend and was not too impressive this weekend. Did Ginn return a kickoff this weekend? He has to be our main returner on both squads in order to get maximum return for the money the team is paying him.
I wouldn't be surprised if they used the Jets game as a blueprint to shutdown Ginn for the rest of the season. i know it wasn't his fault that Cam picked him & his family with the 9th pick but he has to improve getting off the line & separation better.
