    Random gaming fact:

Skyrim has now been out for a longer period of time than between the US release if the NES and the original Playstation.

Kids that were in third grade when it came out are now graduating high school. Bethesda needs to get in gear!

I picked up the Deluxe Edition of Madden 2021 a month ago on clearance for $20 at Walmart. It's been about five years since I bought (used) a copy of Madden, so it was interesting to see where it was at. Looks fairly good, the commentary was better until it started repeating after about the sixth game or so. I created some of the rookies and edited a few players too.

I guess I got okay value for my $20? I've only really played Exhibition games. No point in getting owned in online play and I don't care about MUT or Career/Superstar (whatever they call it) modes so I'm hardly their target audience.

I've been buying it once it goes on sale for $20 every other year for a while now. And...its not gotten any better. Even online play has been stripped to the bare bones, now that they only care about MUT. That all sucks so much.

I'm an offline, single player franchise gamer. So for me, they've barely added anything to the game in a long, long time. There are rumors that they might be doing more with this Autumn's version, so I guess we'll see. Info coming in a few days.

It's always next year. Take something out so they can market that it's added the following year.

Such a scam business model that's gotten worse with social media influencers pushing FOMO on Twitch and YouTube.

FWIW, EA is going into depth on the new franchise mode features on the 21st. I'll check it out. It seems like a step in the right direction.

I have now played Humankind for 17 hours before the game has been released.

I just got done with the Closed Beta. I am enjoying this game.

There are some things that need to be upgraded that I doubt they will get in by August. Or maybe they will, they keep on saying I have only seen a taste.

    Things that need work.
    1. Diplomacy: It is hard to know why exactly people hate you. There isn't much to do to make people not hate you other than pay HUGE reparation costs. I accidentally went to war with the big dog of my game. Which I guess could be cool story telling. They say the opinion changed but I don't remember what they were before.

    2. Trading: I haven't traded on purpose once. I don't know the purpose of trading. There isn't anything that interesting about trading. Just someone buys something from me and I think I get money. I am not always sure.

    3. Religion: I have no idea what is going on with religion. I had the most powerful religion in the game but I don't know why. I know the wonders I built must have helped.

    Things that are awesome.
    1. Battles: In Civ battles can get annoying. Having armies the way they are and using a turn-based style works. Plus having three turn per battle per user turn can lead to fun sieges. I won a few sieges by lasting a few turns until my reinforcements arrived. Having units be tied to population makes it hurt more when one of my unit dies. That is fun.

    2. Look: The game is gorgeous. Best terrain I have seen in a game like this. Blows all Civs out of the water. It is beautiful to look at. I am very curious how the generated maps are going to look. Finding a wonder is very satisfying because they look so good on the map.

    3. City Building: Takes some getting used to but it feels very important where you build. The stability makes sure you can't just build everything you want so you have to make choices. Limiting cities also make choices more deliberate and important. Once I got it down it was very satisfying.

Overall I am looking forward to the release in August. I want to play through the entire game.

I'll keep an eye on it, and probably check it out later on once it's been patched a few times and is working as well as it can.

Yeah, more and more I am inclined to wait on games and let the patches clean things up first. Plus not paying full cost if you wait long enough.

My nine year old daughter's two favorite things are Playing games on the Switch and watching You Tube. Lately, she's gotten into watching videos not only about games that she plays or is interested in, but ones about the history of Nintendo and her favorite characters. And so its been cool for me to be able to watch those with her and give her my own insights from when I was a kid and teen and those games were new, and how exciting it was when I was young to be able to experience all of that firsthand.

Today she was watching a 20-something Youtuber talk about games from the SNES world, and he showed a "very rare magazine" about Mario. It absolutely blew her mind when I told her that I had that same one way back when, along with five or six others that were given out if you had a subscription to Nintendo Power at the time. Of course my mom threw all of my stuff in the trash when I went to college, so my copies are long lost sadly.

Still playing Warzone and Slay the Spire with some regularity. Bought Farcy compilation the other day though, and am working through 3.

Also bought Through the Ages on Steam, and it was a lot of fun to play.

Given that it seems like it will be at least another year until the PS5 is widely available (If then), I went ahead and bought AC Valhalla for the PS4. I've got nothing else going on for months ahead and Odyssey is one of my favorite games of all time, so with this one on sale for 30 bucks and seemingly well patched, there's not really any point in waiting. I'm already going to have a backlog a mile long whenever I get my PS5 as it is.

Good duo between fast paced and slow paced. Typically how I like to game.

Having completed the introductory chapter of AC Valhalla, I can tell you that they have absolutely given standard PS4 owners a lesser product that the new machines. Much like MLB The Show, the lighting and details on the character models are clearly and obviously lesser than on the past couple AC games. While Odyssey is arguably the best looking game I've played on the PS4, this one looks lacks that polish. I suppose that its a side effect of making a game that can be played on three different systems, but its unfortunate.

I've put 90 hours into AC Valhalla, and I just completed the first expansion - Wrath of the Druids. Its sizable, with a lot to explore and do and a pretty good story. I would have liked to have more choice over how things went, but that is what it is. You can also go back to Ireland to play more and finish anything that you didn't accomplish once the story is finished.

I'd say that I'm probably about halfway through the main game also, and it certainly has a lot of content. There's a major patch coming tomorrow that will add a few things and fix some others, so I think that I'm going to pause until I download that before jumping into more. And then the second, presumably larger expansion, the Seige of Paris is coming on August 12th.

Word is that Horizon: Forbidden West is pushed into some point in 2022, along with Gran Turismo. Highly likely that continued restrictions on PS5 sales are part of the reason, with recent titles not selling as well as they otherwise would have in normal times.

I've been watching Xuan-Yuan Sword VII since it was released in Asia last year. Its made by a studio is Taiwan, and the graphics look very late-PS3 era. However, its said to have a lot of depth, a good story, and offers a lot of gameplay. Its now officially going to release in the West at some point later this year.

I was/am playing the Ascension on xbox game pass, and also playing Hades which just came out on series X this past Friday. I like the latter much more than the former, though I enjoy both.

Ghost of Tsushima Director's Cut. I'll be playing through the main campaign again on Lethal and then exploring the new content.

Can't wait to play it in 60FPS vs. locked 30.

I also beat Borderlands 3 main campaign. Waiting for my friends to play the expansion because there's no way I'm dropping $50 on a season pass without other people to play through with. I will say though, as a collector in games, I was able to enjoy Borderlands 3 solo this go-around and I actually really enjoyed being able to take my time and search all the nooks and crannies in the world.

I downloaded the free demo for Tales of Arise to check it out. I'd never played any of the series before.

It looks and plays better than I had anticipated based on the videos I'd seen. The graphics are anime/cell shaded, but not cheesy. But the battle system is chaotic and I don't really feel like I have control over much other than button mashing. Its a game I might eventually buy when it goes on sale really cheap, but not at full price.

Humankind released and I finished my first game yesterday.

There are certain aspects of the game that I very much enjoy. Combat is actually fun. The fact that it has rounds and only three per turn can lead to turning a battle around by reinforcements arriving, which is cool.

I enjoy the city building a lot.

Tech trees work just like any tech.

Also it does look like there is a continent that is untouched in every game. That is a guess because there was one in each of the Betas, and the the game I played had a huge land mass without any nations spawning on it. There is a fun mechanic later in the game where you can take over the "independent people" and absorb their cities at a decent influence cost, so that your city cap isn't just taken up by 4 conquered or assimilated cities right next to each other. Also by the end of the game one of the cities I got this way became one of my best cities. Pretty cool having cities built later in the game actually being viable cities, unlike Civ.

The game isn't perfect. If I didn't play the last two betas and watch videos I would have no idea what I was doing. I didn't play the tutorial, but it has to be great because the game is overwhelming at first. The UI isn't super intuitive and I hope in higher difficulties the end game is interesting. I don't know yet as I just steamed rolled through the game.

The game is different enough from Civ to make it its own experience. I enjoyed the first game. Going to play with a higher difficulty.

I'm playing Ghost of Tsushima, New Game+ on Lethal. I'm on the first portion of the map and it is HARRRD. Many a retries but the game has a good checkpoint system.

If it gets too ridiculous I'll bump it back down when I get to the 2nd island. I'm anxious to try the new content which unlocks when I get to the 2nd portion of the map.

I'm excited to eventually play the game again with the DLC on the PS5 when I get the chance. However, the game was very challenging for me on standard difficulty, especially after the first section, so I'm not going to be going anywhere near that setting. Ever.

I also played the demo of Tales of Arise. The controls felt floaty and unresponsive in combat which is why I've been having trouble getting into these games lately. They're action-RPGs but the animations are so flashy, which I appreciate, but there has to be a balance with responsiveness.

I played as the pugilist character. Maybe I should have went with someone else.

I played as the sword weilding girl (don't remember her name). I liked a lot of things about the game, but the battle system was just too much. Its chaos, and I didn't really understand what I was supposed to be doing beyond button mashing. Maybe the full game eases you into the process better, but I still don't think I'd love it.

I finally bought the game Control on PC since I found it cheap and so far, I'm really liking it. It has a good combat system and lots of challenging puzzles to figure out, plus it's actually a great mystery/horror story too. I don't think it's a super long game, probably 30-40 hours total, but I am having a lot of fun with it so far.

Yeah, then don't start playing it at all- the story hooks you in the first few minutes of playing. The storytelling aspect is among the best I've seen in recent years.

Okay, I just finished the main storyline of Control....HOLY CRAP! It's not technically over yet, but I think they call it the ending since all the secrets have been flushed out. Massively cool game and probably my favorite of the last few years easily. Super cool story.

The real fun, however, is the powers you pick up in the game....it goes from a shooter to basically a superhero game where nothing can stand in your way. But as soon as you hit that invincible plateau, the game finds ways to kick your butt all over again. For instance, there's several side quests and bonus areas for special perks...and I personally can't clear them (I've only tried a few times, but they're HAARD!). But you don't need that stuff to complete the storyline, so that was sort of cool that casual and hardcore gamers both have a challenge available.

I can't say enough about this game- mega cool! The controls are similar to Assassin's Creed (sorta, kinda) and the story is like the Matrix meets Alien. And you really do end up with Neo-like powers!

Play this game people! Control is awesome! It looks like there's a healthy bit of quests and stuff to do after "winning" as well, so I'll be dabbling with this one for at least few more weeks.

For my birthday today my wife got me Biomutant and Mass Effect: Legendary Edition, so I'll have some new games to keep me busy for a while. Biomutant is said to be extremely short (as little as ten hours), but I tend to plod my way through games and take a bit longer, so I'll get as much out of it as I can.

I got Spider-Man: Miles Morales. I am a few hours into it. I love it.

I do dislike how Peter Parker looks more like Tom Holland right now.

I think this engine is super fun. If they make a Spider-Man: 2099, Spider-Man: Spider-Gwen, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, Spider-Man: Spider-Girl(one of my favorite comics), I will buy them all.

I absolutely adored this game. There's some HP Lovecraft and Carl Jung mixed in there too.

I leaned heavily on the Shatter but the game really pushes you to use all of the guns which I appreciated.

I am only maybe 25% through Ratchet & Clank: A Rift Apart, but it's great. Fighting (various weapons) are a lot of fun with plenty of upgrade options. You're always leveling yourself or weapons, and the platforming is fun too. The levels are pretty great looking, and I haven't even considered load times (which is a good thing).
