Who do you think will be the break-out star for the Dolphins this year? I kept people off the list like Parker, Howard, Baker, Ogbah, Fuller etc because they already are great players. If other please post who you think it will be.

I vote for OT Austin Jackson, who will establish himself among the top half of LTs in the league this season.

I really hope it's Austin Jackson, but I waffled between Van Ginkel and R. Davis and ultimately picked Van Ginkel.

I was looking for Tua on this list, but I went with Gaskin.
Miami has done a decent job producing running backs, but then couldn't hold onto them. If the OL has improved and the WR give the opposition a headache, I think Gaskin could have a dominant run season.

Jackson would be money. That’s my secret hope. Honestly, can’t lose between any of them, especially VG.

Almost a given that any poster here would vote Tua if he was an option for this poll which is why OP maybe didn't include him.

    I say Van Ginkel.

There's too much competition at WR for me to say Fuller, Waddle or Wilson. In theory, each one should shine but they'll each limit the others' total output.

And while I think Davis and Wilkins are great, I don't think any DT is going to be a "breakout star." Ditto for a RB like Myles Gaskin.

Regardless of how much he plays, I have confidence in Noah, but he's not going to suddenly become the best defender a la Xavien Howard.

Van Ginkel OTOH will play an impact position and should see an increased role this year. He also has to establish himself to fend off rookie Jaelan Philips. So AVG has every reason to work his tail off and all the ability to do it well.

I went with Davis. I think that a full offseason will do wonders for him now that the game has slowed down. I think the interior DL is going to be a particular strength.

With that being said, I also agree that Van Ginkel can be the guy. He's the reason we dropped Van Noy and I think he's going to reward that confidence with progression toward being a solid LB.

I took Iggy. I think CB's can make significant leaps between rookie and second year. Dude has all the talent and raw ability, he just needs coaching and direction to get it harnessed. This is supposed to be Flo's specialty and passion, and his hand-picked prospect. If he can have a Jaire Alexander-esque trajectory, that would be a huge bonus.

I'd also love to see Perry as a weapon out of the backfield and slot, but that's less likely imo.

Good point. The question is then what sort of performance would be considered breakout for the 6 overall vs what is generally expected, and will he exceed that. I am higher on Waddle than I have been for any pick since Ronnie Brown.

I really hope they don't. The Dolphins have traded too many great players in the last few seasons. We are not rebuilding anymore. The two parties need to work it out.

I'm thinking of the often forgotten but steady Gaskin. With a better line and supporting skill players around him ,he should be better.

I really hope they keep Howard but I'm more into bflow and his system to individual stars...it would suck to have him go but not the worst contingency plan in Iggy...

Igbo seems to be the underachiever here so far.
    Wilson the overachiever.

Feels like the early breakout stars are Grant, Wilson, Hollins and Tua on offense. Wilkins would be a candidate on defense, but just about every other name has been injured or had an average camp.

Some posts just don't age well. :) Iggy looks like a bust (I wouldn't call it until the end of his third season though) and Howard is back in the fold.

Why does 21 year old Iggy look like a bust before the first preseason game of his second season? This is the end of the line for him, eh?

Honestly I think I'm at the point where I'm more intrigued as to who is going to underachieve rather than overachieve at this point because I'm hoping for another year where Flores continues to get the most out of the squad and so the answer to this thread would be most of them.

If I did have to pick a player to get onto that Howard tier of player where they start getting some hype outside of just our fanbase then I'll go for Raekwon Davis, truthfully though I expect it to be another year where the majority of the league sleeps on a lot of our team.

The end of the 2022 season will be the end of the line for Iggy -IF he doesn't have a spot locked up by then. He's very young, so you have to give him three years, but I don't see any progress from his rookie year so far.

I picked Iggy. I fully expect the defense to outshine the offense and, opposing teams will be throwing away from Howard so, it could be Jones but, I think it's going to click for Noah.

I don't have a problem with 3 different WR's going over 1,000 yard each this year. - LOL

What the heck- no Jones or X? And no Wilson or Parker? That's like a 28 point swing in scoring just off those four names. We lost, LOL!

Can a rookie count as a breakout ?

I think Holland is going to hit the ground running and be a big time player.

Hopefully so, but I think that the point of this thread was non-rookies who haven't established themselves fully yet.

Yesterday’s game against the Bears was basically a scrimmage. I expect next week’s game to be more of a dress rehearsal for the season opener, so expect the starters to get more playing time.

With that said, I expect Gisecki to be in his typical form and I truly expect Waddle to breakout.

The Falcons offense is a lot better than the Bears, so hopefully we have most of our defensive guys back. It will be a good test.

However, their defense sucks. So hopefully we get most of our offensive guys back and can look really good in the first half.

I thought that the pass to Hollins that was called back due to a hold was our best offensive play of the day. It was really nice, and we didn't see that last season at all. Hoping for a lot of those throws this season. Ideally to DeVante, but Hollins too if he's on the 53.

I think Davis is going to emerge as one of the best NT’s in the game and Hunt will be our 1at OL rated in the top 15 of his position on the OL by PFF.
