For stiffing, then agreeing to pay, then reneging on agent fees due Tom Condon. http://www.thephins.com/index.php?o...len-hit-with-209k-judgement&catid=15:dolphins So to tally up: he stiffs his agent for two years, agrees to pay when they're about to take him before the league, stiffs him again, then pulls a gun on a guy that says he loaned him money for gambling debts (and apparently has canceled checks from Allen), gets sued by agent and doesn't even respond (because he owes the money). Sounds like a guy with a gambling problem going broke.
We don't have anybody in our secondary capable of getting more than 3 picks a season and not getting flagged or burnt. Of course we need someone that Will Allen can pair up with.
I dont think he's top 10, top 15 even. but yeah the concern is, will he even be allowed on the field to play?
I think he's a top ten CB. Considering how many people rate DeAngelo Hall a top ten CB, I think Allen is better than him. I think it was KC Joyner who did a statistic that showed Will Allen being a top five CB when it came to passing yards allowed.
We should all chip in and pay off Will Allen's debt. He'll pay us back with passes defended and interceptions dropped.
champ, assante, lito shepard, ronde barber, cromartie, trufante, nnamdi, mathis, nate clements, al harris, terence newman, chris mcalister, walt harris, pac-turd, nathan vasher, revis....i can keep going.
The ones in bold don't belong in the top 15 and the ones in a different color are on the same playing level with Allen now.
Eh, I dunno about top 10 but that's subjective (my list includes Asante, Sheppard, Champ, Cromartie, Asomugha, Clements, Newman, Vasher, Revis, Tillman, Barber, etc). But I wonder if that had anything to do with the fact that teams didn't really pass much against us considering our run D was so porous. That can account for a low passing yards allowed. Real test is coming up with Arizona.
Well, according to the Joyner stats everyone keeps throwing out there, Barber's net "yards allowed per estimated pass faced" stat is half of Allen's.
rw mcquarters, shawn springs, even antoine cason already... its a subjective thing, but there's a lot of good corners in the league, and a lot of which are better than will allen.
Out of that list, the guys I take are Champ, Asante, Barber, Cromartie, Trufant, Asoughma, Harris, McCallister, Clements and Mathis. That leaves Allen at number 11. Allen could be ten because Harris is 33 years old and I'd take either Allen or him. In your post above, are you saying you would take McQuarters and Shawn Springs over Will Allen???
I think Shawn Springs plays safety now and putting Antoine Cason and even Rw McQuarters ahead of Will Allen is IMO a slap in the face regarding Allen's talent.
A guy who makes his living (and a name for himself), yes the infamous Dr. Z. Again. He charted each player game by game. Is his decision the end all be all? Nope. Of course not. Others will have different statistics they feel is more important. But has anyone compiled game by game charts for each player? I don't think so. Allen just lacks those INTs.
somewhat related to the OP my father works for a bank and will allen came in for a loan but they had to decline him because his credit score was EXTREMELY low.
possibly. i'd be interested to see how springs or rw would fair here. i dont think itd be much worse than will allen. i think he's jumbled in (talent wise) with a bunch of guys on that level. not with those top guys i previously mentioned.
I have to strongly disagree here. McQuarters isn't even a starter in NY and Springs can't stay healthy. As for the other guys, they have talent but I'd take Allen over some of them as I mentioned in my previous post. I think your really underrating Allen.
dont get me wrong, i think he's good, and has been much better than what i expected. but i was commenting on the fact that he's not "one of the Best" corners in the league. thats all, i mean not even close. and the fact is, our 2nd corner spot has been so ridiculously bad(as safety has been for the 85% of the time Bell is out), that i think its tough to evaluate allen fairly. if a nnamdi was on his other side, it wouldn't shock me if he was picked apart on a regular basis. when he came from the Giants, fans were more than happy to see him leave.
I got a fair amount of ribbing after that by Giants fans but I think Allen will make a good #2 CB, just not an ideal #1 (why he was put on a gimpy Coles who has no noted chemistry with Favre after no preseason instead of on a dangerous and legit #1 WR on their team like Cotchery gets me puzzled). My ideal #1 not only covers the other team's top WR but also makes plays (i.e. Ints, etc). If we were lucky enough to have FA Nnamdi on our team, our CB spot is set.
Maybe it's a product of us playing zone but if your job is to cover one particular guy, most likely a #1 WR, you tail him even if he shifts to another side of the field. If your defensive system requires you to stay on one field and not have a real particular assignment on a particular WR, then nothing much you can do but you should still be able to work either side. I remember Pacman Jones was working out at both spots when he was in Dallas. Truly good corners can play either side because of their great instincts and just damn good playing ability.
Well, I guess that's what separates college/HS levels from the pros then. But still, you gotta think talented corners can play either side. If Allen can't, then Asomugha will be a godsend if he lands here because most other corners will want to play that left side. But speaking of Asomugha, he did play LCB from 2005-07 and RCB in 2004.
With how disadvantaged CBs are nowadays (size, rules etc.) you get them to specialize on one side of the field, it helps. They're used to breaking one way the sideline on one side etc. Elite WRs will always beat elite CBs. So you gotta help them in any way.
Perhaps. If you have a decent CB on the other side. But even then you gotta be versatile like Asomugha.
Whether he is any good or not, if he's not on the field playing, he's no good to us. This regime should be sitting this young man down and laying down the LAW. Straighten up, get the gambling problem fixed or good bye.
Unfortunately, we don't have the luxury of doing that. If we did, I'd agree with you. You take this guy out of our secondary and its going to be ***-ugly.
