To the off-season. Let’s say things continue to unfold as they have so far this season and there is no miracle turnaround. Let’s also say that Grier and Flores are sent packing. Who would you like to see come in here to turn things around? Do you want a hot name from the college ranks (Campbell, Riley, Harbaugh, etc.), a proven coordinator (Bienemy, Danilo, McDaniels) or someone with NFL head coaching experience?

As far as the GM goes, I’m not as up on who’s who of that position, but looking at successful franchises might yield success, or maybe there’s someone who could be lured out of retirement?

Fly the jet to Arrowhead. Send a seal team in for Bienemy and when you get him to Miami weight his pockets down with so much gold he can’t move

As for GMs go, we need to take a page out of Joe Robbie’s playbook…go after a GM that’s assembled a GREAT team and offer him something he doesn’t have with the team he’s with…a share of ownership in the team. The more the team makes, the more he makes. With that being said, GMs I personally would pursue…

    Jon Robinson; Tennessee Titans
    Brett Beach; Kansas City Chiefs
    Eric DeCosta; Baltimore Ravens
    Brandon Beane; Buffalo Bills
    John Lynch; San Francisco 49ers

These are PROVEN GMs that have had consistent success in assembling a team with proven players.

Stephen Ross is going to have to think way outside the box and even risk punishment from the NFL in order to land a GM that can draw the talent and coaches to Miami to return the Dolphins back to greatness.

However, we’re talking about Ross so do t anybody hold their breath

Number one, most importantly, I do not want another rookie head coach. We have hired six straight men who have never been head coaches in the NFL, and it's lead to nothing but failure. It is beyond time to try the other direction.

Secondly, my top choice for GM is Thomas Dimitroff, formerly of the Atlanta Falcons. He spent 13 seasons as their GM, hired two different head coaches who lead the team to the NFC title game, and one that should have won the Super Bowl. Two 13-win seasons (something Miami hasn't done since 1985), six trips to the playoffs, and most important, he hit on his draft picks in the first three rounds at a very high rate.

As for a head coach, my dream scenario is that the 49ers continue to be beset with injuries for the rest of the year, and playing in the best division in football, fall to 4th place again, their ownership grows impatient, and parts ways with Kyle Shanahan. Then we could reuinte Shanahan and Dimitroff, who built one of my favorite offenses of the past decade - the 2016 Falcons.

Keep Tua, Keep Parker, Keep Waddle, and then focus on the ground game and the OL during the first year, and we would see vast immediate improvements on that side of the ball unlike any since Shula was coach.

“Best” is a relative term. What defines best? Quarterback with the highest QBR? Most yards per game? Most points per game?

What has been missing too often from this team is an identity.

The Bears are a defensive and running team. Whether or not you agree it’s smart is not the point. They have an identity.

The Ravens for years have been a defensive juggernaut (and have recently taken a leap forward with Jackson)

The Titans are a strong running team with a deadly play action pass attack.

Just a few examples but the point being, these teams have identities. The Dolphins haven’t had an identity since JJ/Wanny…running the ball and a focus on defense.

Until the front office is able to develop the team’s identity and have personnel around to strengthen said identity, we’re going to be average at best with a few flashes of lightening

that’s a huge no-no if you’re keeping Flores the owner can’t come in and pick his own offensive and defensive coordinators if he’s going to do that they absolutely have to fire everyone in this team will be **** for years to come you hire a top rated GM and then you let the GM hire the coach Ross should have no part outside of final say too many people seem to trick him with nice socks and talk but are not proven winners this is an a fortune 500 deal this is an NFL franchise and Ross needs to step aside and let football players make football moves

Both men have proven to be very good at fixing the things that the Dolphins have sucked at for over twenty years now.

What's the infatuation with Dolphins fans and Parker? It's time to move on. Aren't you tired of the same old nagging injuries every single year?

Not consistent here. They only have the one year. Can't fault them for last year with the injuries but they are looking shaky this year also.

Well I’m inclined to agree with you…if Flores is let go to being in a former head coach. Someone with experience at that level is better than a first time experiment.

You’re always rolling the dice elevating a coordinator to a HC position. Buddy Ryan was one of the BEST defensive coordinators of his time…and yet one of the WORST HCs when he had his chances.

Personally…I don’t want to give up on Flores…not just yet. He really demonstrated how he could get so much out of so little. I just can’t help but to think Grier and his personnel moves have hurt this team more than anything

I remember when we sent the jet to get Aaron Roger's brilliant offensive coordinator... Joe Philbin

I remember when we sent the jet to get Peyton Manning's brilliant offensive coordinator... Adam Gase

I'm sure that this time will be different... We seriously have to stop make the same mistakes. Those guys were generational talents who would have been successful with any coach. The truth was revealed when suddenly those "geniuses" didn't have the greatest talent in the world at their disposal.

I almost agree with exactly what you said except I would add this caveat…

Rodgers and Manning were already successful BEFORE Gase and Philbin. Those 2 OCs were blessed to have proven Super Bowl champions as their quarterbacks and used them to pad their resumes as successful OCs.

Gase and Philbin did nothing to “develop” Rodgers and Manning

Oh i meant after firing flores i thought that was implied. I think they should look for an offensive minded head coach and help him build his staff by throwing big money at a oline coach. I also agree this team has no identity and it always made zero sense to me a team that wanted to play defensive football put zero value into building the run game. For all intents and purpose tua was the low turnover game manger they wanted last year but we didnt compliment it with a solid run game this off season.

And its very questionable if they are any better than just ok right now. This is also a team that decided that Tom Brady wasn't much of an upgrade over Jimmy G.

Obviously a lot better off than Miami but you can't call it consistent success and you can't put them in the same conversation as teams like KC or Baltimore.

    1) He is the only tall, fast WR that the team has ever drafted who's panned out*, and he's a lot of fun to watch. I think that he's largely been misused and poorly coached for his entire career. In spite of that, he's still the franchise's 7th leading receiver all-time, and will likely move up to #5 this year. Its normal to like players like that.

    * - the only other WRs drafted by the Dolphins over 6' tall who have even 1000 career yards are Brian Hartline and Karl Noonan.

    2) You can't replace everyone all at once, or the team is going to hit rock bottom. The idea is to get better, right? He has very. very manageable cap numbers of 9m in 2022 and 2023, and giving Tua two starting WRs who he knows and has experience with is a good start to a new regime. We also have the most cap space in the league for 2022 at the moment, so its not a problem to carry him over. Let the new coach see how he can get them all to work together for a year, and then go from there.

The problem is nobody worth a damn wants to come to Miami. That's how we end up with turds like Flores, Gase and Philbin or Tannenbaum, Hickey or Grier. Coaches and GM's use Miami as a practice interview. We need a total clean sweep across the board, I'm talking call 1800 Got Junk, back the trucks up and clean the whole damn place out, including that stupid logo.

The problem always starts and ends with Ross. He's not selling the team, so the only thing we can hope for is that he completely walks away from football decisions and becomes a spectator, don't even let him have a desk in Florida. Bring in someone to run the organization and hire a real GM, not a used car salesman or some failure scout. It has to be done or we will never get out of this black hole we've been stuck in for over two decades.

I've been a passionate fan since the 70's but since the hiring of Gase my fandom is slowly withering away. The announcement of Grier and Flores hires was my last straw, I just don't care anymore. I find myself enjoying watching other teams play nowadays, more entertaining. If the Dolphins aren't on local tv, I could really care less if I miss the game.

It was pretty much a given that Grier was going to waste away all those picks because his track record has been nothing but fail. Hiring his buddy was always going to be a fail too, because Pats don't produce successful coaches. I'm all for diversity but please no more diversity hires for the sake of diversity. We all can say let's go get coach x and gm x but we all know it's not going to be successful choices with clown shoes Ross sitting in the room.

Maybe we will get it right in 2022 and land someone like Harbaugh or Kellen Moore. In the meantime I'll expect nothing more to look forward to than seeing another Gators Day at the stadium or maybe Ross will expand those million dollar, empty couches at the 50 yard line and take away more of the heart of our gameday crowd. Anything but winning.................

The one thing that make me pause when it comes to Bienemy is the fact that he’s had several interviews for HC jobs and hasn’t been selected - why? Have to be some red flags there - either teams don’t think he can succeed away from Reid, or he’s a terrible interview.

Kellen Moore is an intriguing name, seems like he’s hitting his stride as an OC, but is he ready to take the next step?

Its easy to be an OC when you have the league's best OL. Just throwing that out there.

When Parker is healthy, he's an ABSOLUTE BEAST. But the problem is that he's never healthy. We'll get just a few breakout games from him each season and that's dating back 5 years now? It's just not viable to consider him a WR1.

Preston Williams- exact same story. We didn't draft him though so my patience is a lot greater there; let him show out for 4-6 games a year while making the league minimum. It's a completely different situation since he's not earning a big paycheck.

Will Fuller- exact same story as Parker. We can't keep competing with backup receivers, even when they are as talented as Hollins and Gisecki.

People say our offense sucks, yet we've had exactly one game this season with our starting offense on the field. And guess what? It's our only win of the year. We were undefeated last year with our starting offense on the field as well. The problem is obvious though when we almost never see Tua, Gisecki, Fuller, Parker, and Waddle/Williams on the field together. That has to change!

There is a reasons Bienemy has not received a head coaching gig and it’s nit because teams did not want to wait till after Super Bowl to hire him. He’s great at holding the card and repeating plays into the QB headset. I don’t think he has the mental capacity or leadership qualities to be a real offensive coordinator on an island let alone a head coach. If they hire Bienemy I’m 100% hanging it up. Im not getting any younger and that’s gonna set us back another 4 years. Unfortunately Daboll has no desire to leave Buffalo he would be my first choice….only thing that will get him out of Buffalo is maybe NYG opening with a generational QB prospect in the draft and #1 draft pick…. We don’t have any of that.

Daboll is high on my list too. If you look at Josh Allen when he entered the league and where he is now, you see such growth. I really do think that a certain part of that was most definitely coaching. I really think with Mahomes, he was an elite QB the moment they put him onto the field.

I worry that Bienemy is basically Andy Reid's sidekick, much like Joe Philbin was to Mike McCarthy in Green Bay. When you have a future HOF coach who's made his mark on one side of the ball, its a real crapshoot deciding whether his assistants on that same side are as good as the team itself plays. How much is Reid, and how much is Bienemy or anyone else. Teams are watching Doug Pederson and Matt Nagy and probably thinking that he's more of the same.

Interestingly, its the coaches on the opposite side of the ball that have fared the best as head coaches once they leave Reid. Ron Rivera and Sean McDermmot were both DCs for him, while Jim Harbaugh was his ST coach.

I think Eric can build a decent coaching staff and lead a team.. and i think the same of Leftwich… they will both get their shot one day..

todd bowles is an excellent coach but i dont think he can lead a team on his own. He needs a strong coordinator/assistant head coach next to him if he gets another shot. And im not sure he is able to attract that kind of talent under him.
